6 Netflix Dramas You Should Watch to Learn Japanese!

Hello Thank you for watching again today Today I'd like to share some recommended Japanese dramas available on Netflix So today I've picked six titles and here they are: I'd like to briefly introduce them categorized into beginner intermediate and advanced levels Beginner refers to those who have just started learning Japanese Intermediate level you can manage somewhat casual conversations Advanced level typically those who have lived in Japan for a long time So I'll introduce some Japanese dramas available on Netflix categorized into these three levels First I'll introduce two beginner-level titles The first one is Lonely Gourmet Its English title is Solitary Gourmet Something like "Solitary Gourmet " right The Japanese and English titles differ slightly but for someone living in Japan it's "Solitary Gourmet " If you're living abroad look up "solitary gourmet " This is a very simple drama A salaryman goes to various restaurants cafeterias and eateries every day after work or whenever he gets the chance Just a video about enjoying a meal—nothing more It's incredibly simple with few characters and it's essentially a drama about someone truly savoring their food Japanese is easy too You could try the foods featured there in person or you might even want to visit the place when you come to Japan I think it's remarkably easy to follow making it perfect for beginners Next is the lion's hideout Light of My Lion This is about a brother but the younger brother has a mild intellectual disability and the two of them live together A small boy suddenly appears there asking to be allowed to live together here making this story about a sudden three-person shared life When I thought about why this was aimed at beginners it's because the conversations between a child and her younger brother who has intellectual disabilities occur so frequently throughout this drama The Japanese used by the two speakers is very simple and easy to understand so I thought it was aimed at beginners Toward the latter part there were also some mystery elements There are some parts that get a bit complicated but I'd like you to focus on the conversation between these two people They're using very gentle considerate Japanese so The story is really fascinating so be sure to check it out Next up is the intermediate level First one is First Lab This is from an earlier video where I introduced Utada Hikaru's first single as part of my recommendations for great Japanese songs At that time I briefly mentioned how this song was used and a drama was actually made using it and that drama is this film called First Lab No it's not a movie—it's a drama Set in Hokkaido Japan's northernmost region this story follows a female taxi driver who has lost her memory It's a story about a man's romance incredibly romantic with beautiful visuals and overall consistently quiet That’s why I think it might be easier to follow conversations and take information You might even learn Japanese useful for romance and if anyone hasn’t been to Hokkaido yet You'll definitely want to visit Hokkaido after watching this drama The scenery is breathtaking and the cinematography is stunning It's one of my favorite dramas too It's a drama where winter plays a significant role and since it's almost winter in Japan right now the timing feels just right so I'm thinking about watching it again It's that highly recommended Next up is Sakuramachi from the geiko house Have you ever heard of a geiko Many people might be familiar with terms like geiko or geisha but… A maiko is the stage before becoming a geiko it's the training period the apprenticeship phase when young women are still learning the arts Painting their faces white it's one of Japan's most impressive traditional performing arts Regarding those geisha ladies the story isn't about a geisha at all—it's about a chef who lives in the same boarding house where the geisha gather That’s what makes it so interesting isn't it The protagonist is someone who cooks meals for a geisha Every time I make what looks like delicious rice it's actually a fairly simple and easy-to-follow drama though it occasionally features regional dialects So I've officially upgraded to intermediate level Watching this drama not only helps you study Japanese but also offers a great opportunity to learn about Japan's rich culture and traditional arts so be sure to pay attention to those aspects as well And now the advanced level First up is Alice from the country of Now Alice in Borderland This one I absolutely love I think it might be a bit too difficult for learning Japanese In short it's a story about a death game Recently it's been Squid Game the South Korean Squid Game It was a huge hit worldwide bu It's kind of like the Japanese version of Squid Game It's a real death game each challenge is incredibly well thought out and really engaging and the story itself is fascinating I prefer this one over Squid Game but the way each character speaks well it inevitably becomes unrealistic Each character is really anime-like yet completely different from one another— their ways of speaking vary which might be a bit challenging but it's also really fun It's incredibly entertaining so just go ahead and watch it But if you're easily scared or dislike gory content you might want to skip it though overall I highly recommend it And finally House of Ninjas — a hidden ninja haven As the title suggests this is a story about ninjas and how ninjas still exist in today's modern world Actually the premise is that they're still around quietly so—keeping their identity as ninjas largely hidden of course not making a big show of it That’s the thing—after that all sorts of dramas unfold and if you're into Japanese culture like ninjas or samurai you might really enjoy it There are tons of ninja action scenes so it’s definitely exciting It's really cool and I think the idea of an ordinary housewife or someone living a normal everyday life secretly being a ninja is quite intriguing There are plenty of action dramas but I think surprisingly few focus on ninjas as a theme Sure there's Naruto if we're talking anime but otherwise not many The action scenes are a bit frequent so studying Japanese might be a bit challenging so if you're unsure about your Japanese consider using subtitles You must also take a look at this After all learning language through listening is a very important thing so why not make it enjoyable while studying So Japanese dramas and movies are great too but I highly recommend watching more and more of them If you've watched the six I recommended today I'd really love to hear your thoughts in the comments Until we meet again in the next video See you later
