What Is This 7 900 Year Old Structures Found in Saudi

In 2018, on my very first day in the field in Saudi Arabia, we identified a new archaeological structure on the landscape, one that, to the best of our knowledge, had never been studied before by archaeologists.

What was this structure? When did it date to? What should it be called? We had no idea.

Between 2018 and 2024, we surveyed dozens of these structures and excavated a range of them across the AlUla region of Saudi Arabia. What did we find?

Well, we have named them Standing Stone Circles, and they are between c.8000-6000 years old!
