It's time to grab your paints and relax because today we are painting some easy watercolor
valentines that are cute and simple enough to remake again and again. You don't even need fancy
supplies or advanced skills for these so what are we waiting for? Let's get started. So let's just
grab some watercolor supplies. First we have our paints, a paper towel, some clean water,
and of course some brushes. I'll be using some of my craftamo brushes today. Maybe I'll pull
out the number six round and the number three round and the number one rigger. And just as a
side note these brushes are back in stock so I will leave a link for those in the description
of this video if you're interested along with links and information for any of the other products
you see me using today. Now next up we need some watercolor paper. I've just cut some larger sheets
down into some five by seven sizes but you can choose whatever size you'd like or you can even
just use some ready pre-made watercolor cards. Now I do have some very simple penciled on outline
sketches on my cards today. These are very easy to draw for yourself. All I have here are some hearts
with some stems and leaves, maybe some twirly or twisty things just to add some fun. Just whatever
you want to do this just kind of adds some fun to it. This one has more branches that are full of
leaves that I can kind of paint in different colors so that they'll be slightly different.
But although these are super easy to draw for yourself I will also have these available in my
Etsy shop as well so you can just simply print them out and trace them right onto your watercolor
paper to save you a little bit of time and get you right to the fun of painting. So I will also
leave a link for that in the description of this video as well. All right we'll just paint these
cards one at a time. Maybe we'll start with this one first. I think I'll go ahead and just tape my
paper down really quickly with some artist tape just to keep it from moving out of my camera shot
and also maybe help with some of the warping. Now you of course can use any colors that you'd like
to for this today because we are going to be making these into valentines. I'm going to stick
with some of the valentine colors so maybe I will pull out some cadmium red first then maybe some
alizarin crimson and some quinacridone rose and it might even be fun to make sort of a reddish
purple mixture using some quinacridone rose and some mineral violet. Okay good enough I think that
that can get us started. Now just using my number six round brush I'll take some of the cadmium red
paint and go ahead and paint in one of these hearts and you can do whichever one you want.
I'm going to be painting this wet on dry nothing too fancy we're just putting the paint straight on
here. Then after I have that base layer of color and it's still wet I'll go ahead and take some of
the darker alizarin crimson and add that to the cadmium red just some small touches here and there
and I'll let those colors blend together a little bit. This is going to create a touch of shadow
and dimension to the heart. I'll go ahead and paint a few more of these red hearts in the same way
adding in a touch of alizarin crimson as that accent color but you know what that is actually
optional if you'd rather you can just paint it a straight plain red color and that's okay too.
In fact while I'm at it I think I'll even paint in one of these buds also kind of in the same way
with the red color first and adding in a touch of alizarin crimson. I'll just paint half of the bud
right now and then wait for that to dry and come back and finish it later. Okay well done we've got
a good start going on here this looks pretty good for the red color so why don't we go ahead and
make some pink and purple hearts next. So this time I'll start the hearts off with a base layer
of the quinacridone rose and then while that paint is still wet I'll come back in and add just
a touch of our purple mixture which is the quinacridone rose and the mineral violet mixed
together. In fact maybe I'll just start with the little buds first and then move on to the hearts
next. You know I always get excited when February comes around it's so much fun when Valentine's Day
is here and I always enjoy painting a little something special for Valentine's Day. These are
just cute and simple, easy to make, and fun to give away. I think that you'll enjoy making the
second card as well so if you are enjoying my painting and teaching style today I hope you'll
subscribe if you haven't already so you don't miss out on any of my new and upcoming weekly tutorials.
okay I'll just come in here and finish off the second little petals on the flower buds and then
I think we can move on. All right the next step is the greenery, the stems and the leaves for these
cute little heart flowers. So I think I'll pull out some darker hooker's green first and then also
some lighter sap green for this and I think I will use the sap green as the base layer color for the
leaves and then the hooker's green as a bit of shadow color and you know what maybe to make the
hooker's green just slightly darker I'm going to add in just a touch of ivory black to that.
Now I'll actually just paint the leaves in the same way that we did with the hearts
starting with a base layer of the lighter sap green color and then adding in just a small
touch of the darker shadow hooker's green mixture while that's still wet and this is going to blend
and give it a bit of depth. I'm still using the number six round but if you need to then go ahead
and switch over to a smaller brush if that would make things easier. Okay well done we are just
about finished with this card the last thing that we need to do is add in the stems so I'm going to
switch over to the number one rigger next to help create some nice thin lines for this and you can
use either green paint colors maybe I'll try using the darker hooker's green this time. I'll just
start painting in the greenery that surrounds the base of the heart and then paint in the stem line.
Now for a bit of extra fun I have added some little twists and twirls in some of these just
to give it a bit of a whimsical feel but this is optional too. In fact if you find that making
these thin lines and twirls is kind of hard to do with the rigger brush feel free to pull out a thin
sharpie marker or a pen or something else and you can just draw them in instead just whatever works
best for you. And as a side note I am not painting these perfectly along the pencil lines that I have
on my paper but that's okay we can come back in here and erase any leftover pencil marks that we
can still see in the end.
All right believe it or not that is actually it for this first card. I think it turned out really
cute now wait until this completely dries and then you can come back in and erase any extra pencil
lines still showing. Okay I'm just going to set this card aside for now and move on to the next.
This one is also really cute and we're going to be doing a few different colors on this one.
Again I'm going to go ahead and just tape my paper down really quickly before we get started.
Now we already have some good colors that we can use that are on our tray for this.
I'm going to go ahead and start out with some cadmium red first and if you want to you can
add in that second shadow color like we did with the first card but just to change things up a
little bit I'm going to show you some different options. So maybe I'm not going to do that on
this time but that choice is up to you. Instead I'm just going to paint these each one solid color
and use all of those colors that I have. So I've got the cadmium red on this one first
and then next up I'm going to use some alizarin crimson and just paint the full heart in that
color. Now for this next heart I'll use some of the quinacridone rose and this one I'll go ahead
and paint the red violet mixture color. It's kind of fun to have all of my hearts slightly different
hues. I do still have one small heart left though so maybe I'll try mixing some of the alizarin
crimson and the quinacridone rose together for this little heart. Okay this is a good start.
Next up we are going to paint in the leaves and the stems. Now we've got a lot more leaves on
this one so we can play around and have some fun with some different colors. Really you can do
whatever colors you'd like to or whatever you think would look good. I think I'll start out
with a little bit of green first but I'm going to tone down the sap green that's on my tray just a
little bit by adding in just a touch of cadmium red. These leaves are slightly smaller sections
to deal with so I am also switching over to the number three round to paint these in with.
I'm going to go ahead and just paint in a few sections of these leaves with this green color.
Okay I think that's good enough for the green leaves. Now I'm going to change up that green
color a little bit by adding in some ultramarine blue in there. Then I'll paint in a few more
leaves just whichever ones you want to do. It really doesn't matter we're just having some fun
and playing around with this. All right to finish these spots off I'll pull out the rigor brush
and paint in a few stem lines for these maybe even a few on the hearts as well.
Just make sure that you're also connecting the leaves to the main stalks.
This is turning out so good so far. Let's go ahead and change the color once again for the
next leaves and in fact let's get a little crazy here and maybe pull out some cadmium orange and
mix it with some alizarin crimson to create a red orange color. Then I'll use that number three
round brush and go ahead and paint in a few more of these leaves on the page. I think that looks
pretty good for the orange color so now I'll switch over to just some pure alizarin crimson
and paint in some more leaves with that. All right that looks pretty good. I think it's time to
change up the colors again. Maybe this time I'll mix some alizarin crimson with the more red violet
color and then transition to just some pure red violet leaves. Really there's no rhyme or reason
to how I'm doing this. I'm just changing up the colors to make it cute and fun. Just do whatever
you feel like looks good. Maybe to finish off the last of the leaves left on the page I'll transition
to some more red colored leaves. Okay very good. I really like how this one turned out. Let's go
ahead and pull out the number one rigger brush once again and finish painting in the stems of
these leaf branches and heart flowers and you can just use a variety of colors just whatever you
want to try. And again if you don't paint these lines perfectly that is okay. We can erase those
leftover pencil lines in the end.
All right I think that is it for our second cute little valentine card and after it's dry
then you can come back in here and erase any leftover pencil lines that you can still see
and then we can call this one done. Make sure you tell me which one of these cards you like the best
or which one you plan to try. These are both cute simple quick little cards and are perfect for some
fun little valentine's day gifts. I hope you enjoyed today's tutorial and maybe even learned
something new. If you did enjoy the tutorial I hope you'll consider subscribing to my channel
