This is a dark comedy, of course, directed by Jonah Hill.
Was an immediate yes to work together with this cast and Jonah?
Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
What excited you most about the project and drew you in from the script?
For me, it was Jonah as a director.
You know, the films that he had made.
And then as the script came in, I thought that was for me like.
And then when I heard it was you and you was like, yes.
Same. Pretty much exactly what Kiana said.
I mean, first off, Jonah, I'm just a huge fan of Jonah's.
And I love the idea of like also just some an actor writing,
directing and acting in this own film.
I always find that so interesting to be a part of because I think,
you know, in the world that we live in or what we all work in,
there's always sort of these compartmentalizations.
And it's really a cool thing to be on the set with the director as an actor
and see how that influences, you know, the movie itself.
And then, of course, working with these two guys is incredible.
Like I just immediate. Yes, of course.
And I know it's a reunion for the two of you
after your first movie together 30 years ago.
I'm done. I'm dying.
You're dying right now.
We're both dying.
What was it like to get to be back to third film?
I try to I go, you forgot about that, right?
You forgot about that.
You like, you don't remember that, right?
You blocked it out of your memory.
It was like my third. I was so green. It was terrible.
I thought it was fun.
Did I just say, let's forget about it?
And you're like, tell me more.
It's so cool. All these years later, we're back together.
We've seen we've known each other over the years.
So like to be able to come back to doing a movie together,
it's just like for me, I was very excited.
And I know this movie, of course, centers around an actor who left
and then comes back after getting blackmailed.
Did you guys relate to that at all?
I know you took a break from the industry.
Anything that ever came up in your lives
that made you possibly think about leaving
and then something that specifically brought you back?
I took 10 years off, so yeah, I was gone.
But, you know, coming back to I love making movies.
It's a privilege.
You know, it really is a privilege to get to make films,
put them into the world, entertain people, make people,
you know, move people, whether it's, you know, emotional or or laughter.
It's just a privilege. And I love doing it.
In response to that, no, I mean, I'm just trying to stay in the game.
No, I think I think it comes with its highs and lows.
And you have to find that nice medium.
And no, but I'm just grateful that I got to work
with this incredible cast and director.
I'm going to circle it back to the movie, because the movie is about
like our sort of the celebrity, the trap of celebrity
and how now celebrity is so like accessible to so many to anyone.
People all think that they want to be famous.
But this shows like the sort of prison in which you live in
as a famous person, but also the prison that celebrity creates around
every and any person participating in it on either side of it.
You get trapped.
You think that the person that you're watching is the person
that you experience on the film, but they're just a human being
struggling every day, just like everybody else.
And so it's just sort of this very, you know, interesting perspective
on our society's relationship with celebrity.
And so, yeah, we, of course, lost Catherine O'Hara this weekend.
So sorry to take it to this note.
But she was supposed to be here today with the studio cast.
How will you guys most remember her and how do you want to honor her legacy?
Waiting for Goffman is one of my favorite movies of all time.
But she was just such a light in everything that she was in.
And comedic genius, obviously, and a very sad loss way too soon.
But so grateful for all the incredible memories she gave so many people.
Absolutely.
We had a saying on our set was called we are characters,
but only say this all the time.
Icons only, babe.
And she was an icon.
She was iconic in everything she did.
Gives me chills. She's incredible.
Thank you guys so much. Thank you.
