Panel Warns AI and Social Media Are Fueling Religious Persecution
At the International Religious Freedom Summit in Washington, D.C., a panel titled “Digital Frontiers and Algorithmic Bias – Next-Gen Accountability in the Information Age” warned that surveillance systems, artificial intelligence, and coordinated activity on social media are increasingly being used to facilitate religious persecution. Levi Browde of the Falun Dafa Information Center pointed to China’s use of mass surveillance and online propaganda to track, detain, and silence religious believers, while also highlighting how social media platforms can become vectors for hatred when manipulation and foreign-linked campaigns go unchecked. Panelists urged greater transparency and accountability from tech companies as authoritarian regimes exploit digital tools to suppress religious freedom.
