For the first time in franchise history, the Predator’s facial performance was driven directly by the actor, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi. The team built a full practical suit with an open-face design, allowing Dimitrius to create real emotional nuance on set. His performance was then blended with a digital facial system crafted by top VFX artists to animate the alien mandibles, lip-sync, and complex expressions that a practical mask alone could never achieve.

Originally, the crew planned to use a traditional foam latex animatronic mask controlled remotely. But even legendary creature designers admitted it couldn’t deliver the emotional range this story needed. The solution became a seamless hybrid: a practical suit built by Wētā Workshop combined with a digitally enhanced Predator face that still feels tactile, real, and intimidating.

This blend of actor-driven performance and high-end VFX allowed the new Predator to be terrifying, expressive, and surprisingly relatable - all at once.
