House Democrats blocked a motion to require public hearings on two initiatives backed by 400,000+ Washingtonians, despite a state constitutional mandate stating they “shall take precedence” over other policy measures.

▶️Initiative IL26-001 would guarantee parents the right to review their children’s instructional materials, access school records, be notified when medical services are provided, and opt out of certain classes.

▶️Initiative IL26-638 would protect the integrity of girls’ sports by ensuring female student athletes are not forced into unfair competition with biological males.

The motion would have required the House Education Committee to promptly hold public hearings on the two initiatives to comply with the Legislature’s constitutional duties.
