The apocryphal book of Enoch is one of the most controversial books found among the ancient Dead Sea Scrolls. The account of Enoch’s flying house with God as his tour guide is just one of many astonishing revelations shared in this ancient writing. If this subject is new to you, understand that Enoch, the father of Methuselah, lived a remarkable life and according to the Bible, “God took him.”
What do you know about the book of Enoch?
Well today you're going to find out about the book of Enoch and how important it is in
several different ways and we have the author of
The ancient book of Enoch. His name is Ken Johnson
You've seen him before many of you have and and and he is a very very
Interesting author because he goes where nobody else
Dares to tread and thanks for being with us today. Thank you the ancient book of Enoch now
It is ancient
It's sort of laid in the dustbins for centuries until it was discovered
And let's talk about that. Well the book of Jude
quotes the book of Enoch and
Says that Enoch gave prophecy and the church fathers talk about this book of Enoch that he wrote that has
Pre-flood history to it
Prophecy about end times and a lot of other things and so the book has laid dormant for a long time
It's in the Ethiopian canon and RH Charles finally translated it into English and I believe the 1800s
and by the way, I've got an open my old beat-up and
RH Charles this one was 1917 copyright and
Again I have gotten a lot out of it, but
Not as much as when I read Ken's book. We give the ancient book of Enoch
Well after the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered parts of the book of Enoch were discovered. So we know now it's not
Just Ethiopic it does actually go back way far in the past and there were other texts found with it that the
RH Charles version doesn't have
So I wanted to compile and create a modern English version because of the prophecy parts so we could easily understand them
And you have done so
we find
Enoch mentioned in the Bible in the book of Jude and and in
Jude is only 25 verses long very short letter and in the 14th
Verses is on and Enoch also the seventh from Adam
prophesied of these
Saying behold the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints
well, who did he prophesy of he prophesied of apostates who would come along and
It's really interesting that when you go back to the book of Enoch you see a grand
apostasy a history of
apostate angels and
Used to your first reaction as a Christian. Did that really happen?
And as you begin to look yes, it really did happen and not only were there consequences
But there are consequences that roll have rolled down through the centuries to us today
Yeah, the the church fathers talk about that as being actual history
They they quoted Enoch a lot and what's interesting about it
Is one of the church fathers talked about the book of Jude and said that it was specifically written against a group of Gnostic heretics
called the Corpocratian Gnostics
Corpocrates was known to believe in Genesis 6 the concept of fallen angels
From Genesis 6 and he said that he actually was a reincarnation of one of these beings
So I think what Jude is trying to say here is the version of the story that Enoch gives is the correct one
Which is found in the Bible the version that these Gnostics are telling you is fake and a Gnostic you might define
Gnostic for those who are not familiar with Gnosticism
It's a combination of Judaism and a bunch of pagan ideas. And so they were the cults of the first day
So they were cults and it's fascinating when you go back to Jude
The foundation of this letter and I'm sure most of you have read the book of Jude all 25 verses of it
and
he
He was going to
he says
Dude says I was going to write a book about the common salvation meaning
faith and love and how you should comport yourself and so forth and so on and
exhortation of some sort but he says as I was writing this the Holy Spirit kind of changed my mind and
And he he is directing me to write about
certain men who crept in unawares who were before of old ordained to this
condemnation ungodly man turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness and
denying
The only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ and then what does he do?
He begins to write about the fallen angels. He goes back to
Michael the Archangel he goes back to Cain he goes back to Balaam
And so he's focusing in on these grand
apostasies
But he also focuses in and actually quotes the book of Enoch, which is maybe an apostasy that to beat them all
It's kind of an apostasy of the angels who fell
Yeah, absolutely
The first six chapters of Enoch talks about the apostasy how it was then how it will be and that's the part that Judah's
quoting and I think that's
Really important for us to look at but then the second section is all about the pre-flood apostasy the angels and those kind of things
They actually give a whole lot of detail about
Between that the the book of Giants, which is I put in the back of our book of Enoch
Tells you how they did the genetic tampering and the things that happened with it a little bit about the civil war of the giant
Clans pre-flood and how it all ended with the flood
and so this apostasy or a
tendency toward apostasy that began in the heavens and
and then landed on planet Earth and has
Proliferated down through the ages and has been destroyed and rebuilt and destroyed and rebuilt
and
Jude just felt compelled
To talk about these things and and if you look at the book of Enoch
What is it the first thing you see you see the angels that who come down with?
Ulterior motives about taking over the earth. This is amazing
It as we were talking before we came on today, it sounds like sci-fi almost well
It sounds like it but it's actually
correct as as far as we can tell because some of the things in it are profit prophecy and
some of the prophecies have come to pass like for instance the one where
Enoch is told that the Messiah who would redeem us
Actually comes 70 generations after him now
They don't set a date per se a year
But a generation you can count the generations if you go to the book of Luke in chapter 2 and look at the genealogy
You'll see that it starts with Adam and goes all the way down to
Jesus Christ and if you count them Jesus Christ is the 70th from
Enoch so that's a prophecy fulfilled and again you could say if this was written in the Middle Ages
Maybe it's been you know fake it tampered with or whatever
But since we've found parts of it in the Dead Sea Scrolls, we understand that it's at least 300 BC
So to have the accurate prophecies
It's really amazing
I'm opening Ken's
Book of Enoch and in the first verse behold
He comes with 10,000 of his holy ones to execute judgment upon all destroy the ungodly. What's being pictured here?
in
Jude or in Enoch actually the second coming in the establishment of the kingdom so
So you you have to get this through your head. Wait, you've got this very old
manuscript
And you'd open it to the very beginning and here's this picture quoted by Jude behold
He comes with ten thousands of his holy ones
Is that really talking about what I think it's talking about?
When Messiah comes with his holy ones to establish the kingdom and that's mentioned in many other Dead Sea Scrolls, too
So they all knew what they were talking about
Now this ends up for us
If we had never seen the book of Enoch
we would go to the book of Revelation and see the Lord coming with ten thousands of his saints and
but here we have a different perspective of the same event and
Then let's pick up and and see how this carries us through the book
For those not familiar with the book of Enoch. Well, it talks a lot about the concept of repentance and holiness
It has a lot of prophecies about the first and second comings of the Messiah. They would be born of a virgin
He would somehow take away our sins
He would eventually come and establish what we call a millennial kingdom
It's a virgin birth never interrupt here. The virgin birth is mentioned in the book
Yes, the the whole concept of the seed of the woman and it's explained a little bit more there and in other
Scrolls too
But the concept that the seed comes from man and the seed of the woman is a is an old term for a virgin birth
And that was a prophecy for many of the scrolls
And so again, we see all of these things in Enoch as being things that would happen eventually
so somehow the genetic problem with man or man has a genetic problem and that's where we get our sin nature and
Somehow that's fixed by the coming of Messiah now
They don't have a whole lot of details just that somehow Messiah would fix it and and by the way
If you go to first second and third John, you know, it's kind of dealing with the same subject
Many many places in the New Testament you're dealing with the sin nature of man and its correction, which is a genetic
problem and
And again you come to Jude and it's just surprising if you haven't really put it all together in your head
It's just surprising that Jude
turns back to the very beginning to the to the rebellion that started this whole thing off and
Then he he goes from the rebellion
He describes what the angels did after they came to earth the fallen ones
And let's talk about that a little bit because they were businessmen as far as I'm concerned
They wanted to set up nice fat lucrative
If you will
ranch land
On planet earth, this is my ranch here
This is your ranch over here and and they wanted to come down here and set themselves up as the moguls
Running planet earth. Mm-hmm
Yeah
According to the book of Enoch the first one to do that was an angel named Azazel
And what's interesting about that is when we go back to the Old Testament and Leviticus and then also mentioned in I believe Hebrews
Paul's mentioning the scapegoat. That's how we translate it in King James
But the scapegoat literally is the Azazel goat and it's a it's a symbol or a prophecy in ritual form
About what Azazel did and how it caused problems in the book of Enoch
It says that all sin will be ascribed to Azazel for what he did
So he started doing what we would call genetic tampering trying to create something
He's off by himself not bothering anybody. It doesn't corrupt the planet. So there's no judgment that actually falls
So then a little bit later there were 200 angels that decided they wanted to do the same thing
that descended on Mount Hermon
which is what we're told in the book of Enoch Jubilee's book of Giants and a few others and
That's what caused the problem when you get 200 different people trying to do genetic problems all at the same time
So you have just to the north of Israel
Mount Hermon still there today
I've had people tell me that there's a kind of a memorial of some sort built up at the top of Mount Hermon
Mm-hmm and with some some engraving on it to the effect that I don't think anybody really knows what it says, but it
Apparently it memorializes the coming of these angels
Which I find just astounding that we live in a world like that
And usually we don't look at these things and and we kind of try to gloss
gloss over the evils and and look at the world through you know
eyes of Christian grace and everything's fine and and the Lord loves us and we
broadcast his love
Through our faith to the rest of humanity. We try to put a nice a
wonderful if you will patina on the
What we would what we perceive about the Christian faith and yet there is this underlying
landscape of
rebellion and evil and
It ends when the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints, right?
And so you have this this huge narrative, which I think
Really needs to be integrated into the preaching of the gospel
Yeah, I mean we have through scriptures with the scriptures talk about giants in the land of Canaan
It talks about the fall of the angels the fall of people the sin nature
Demons things like that. So if you believe the scriptures you understand there is this other realm
Of angels that are good and angels that are bad and they're gonna try to cause problems
What are the kind of problems they can cause so we have one record of a certain kind of set of problems
That they caused I wouldn't be surprised
You know
I think the value of reading the ancient book of Enoch is and by the way
You have the language of your book is it has been
How should we say smoothed out it has been made I think more understandable and
easier to read than then
foregoing
Translations. Yeah, I wanted to do a modern English translation
For that purpose and then also the prophecies that point to things in our time period
Yeah, it was really cryptic anyway, especially with a King James in type English or you know that kind of thing
Charles so I wanted to do something with some commentary to point you in the right direction so we can figure the prophecies out if
In your work as you did this if there's one place in this book that really caught your attention
when you started putting it together and
Translating it. What would that be? Which which part my part? I always focused on the prophecies
there's a prophecy about the
The shepherds and
The talks about if you interpret it, right
It's the leaders of Israel and they basically ceased to exist at a certain point for a couple of millennia
And then they come back and there's a certain number of leaders
Until an evil king arises and a seven-year period and things like that
so again, not it's impossible to set a date with that, but it's possible to set a
Generation or some sort of a government structure generation type thing
so it's giving us a an approximate time on when things would happen and so there's two or three prophecies like that in the
Book of Enoch that point to things in our lifetime
Just like it talked about the 70 generations from Enoch to Jesus first coming
Does it actually give a time span or an approximation of the time that would would pass?
Yeah in groups and we're not sure what the groups mean exactly but it's if we're talking generations
It would be your great-grandfather. And so five generations down would be your son or your grandson
So as soon as your grandson is born something might happen. It's that kind of a thing. So it's an approximate time period
well
Based on that and I'm going back to my King James Bible book of Jude
Enoch 7th from Adam prophesied of these that is apostates and
And verse 15 says the Lord's coming to execute judgment upon all to convict all
That are ungodly among among them of their ungodly deeds, which they have ungodly
Committed and all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against them
So you can't really call this a prophecy
But it is it's it's almost
It's saying
Cheer up in the end. It's all gonna work out those people who have been apostates will be exposed
Just as the angels who left their first estate
Right were exposed and so I think that's what Jude is talking about when he quotes Enoch
Yeah, and if you actually go and look at the first six chapters of Enoch
It's more descriptive of what Judah's summarizing
so you get a better understanding of exactly what kind of
Ungodliness we're talking about and so you can begin to see where that's at in our society and watch the proper
Points grow see how close we're getting to the end and can it's amazing to me as we're talking about this
You know before we came on the air today
we're talking about contemporary society and all the things that
are just
Taking a nosedive, I guess
Society seems to be coming apart at the seams globally and of course all this is prophesied and yet you you know
you you your heart still longs for stability and
Social true social justice knowing that that'll never come
unless Jesus comes but
We're now living in a
apostate society and
globally and
it seems to be
going toward a deeper and deeper apostasy and we all long for for the correction of that and
We are promised several places including Jude that that's gonna be corrected and then we look back
We sort of take a backward look
with Enoch and and his
Review of what happened in the past when those angels fell and
That's not fiction
it's not science fiction a bunch of renegade angels coming down on a mountaintop sounds sort of like a
Movie. Mm-hmm, but it actually happened. Yeah, and it's interesting to me
You take the basic story and again, it's found in the Dead Sea Scrolls also in Jubilees and in the book of Giants
It talks about how they did to the genetic tampering and we look at society today and some of our science
We're following in the same footsteps. They're doing some of the same experiments having some of the same results
How would ancient people writing fiction know how to do that and have it?
correctly if it wasn't something that actually occurred and you've got all these other histories like for instance the
The the history was kept by the school of the prophets including Enoch and
When they left the Amorites came in we're told and kind of took over everything
Somewhere along the line there's Giants in the land of Canaan again
So there's got to be something to the technology if it keeps happening if you believe the scriptures and I do
by the way
Ken's gift I think is taking
old manuscripts
Difficult to read manuscripts and bringing them into modern English
collating or
Organizing making them readable for you
And if you've heard the book of Enoch discussed and said I've always wanted to read that well
here's your chance to read a
very readable version of the ancient book of
The apocryphal book of Enoch is one of the most controversial books found among the Dead Sea Scrolls
The account of Enoch's flying house with God as his tour guide is just one of many astonishing
revelations shared in this ancient writing if this subject is new to you understand that Enoch the father of Methuselah
Lived a remarkable life and according to the Bible God took him
Yes, Enoch was the first man to experience the rapture
Though the book of Enoch is quoted in the Bible
It is not inspired scripture, but it adds some remarkable details to some key passages that have troubled theologians for ages
Enoch is one of the few places that documents the heavenly rebellion of the fallen angels in the sixth chapter of Genesis
Let's just say he names names
Documenting the actual leaders of the rebellion and offering insight into their corruption of the human race in the days of Noah
Today we see this same genetic tampering taking place in laboratories all around the world
but according to Enoch these fallen angels knew the secrets of heaven and the manipulation of DNA long before our
generation

Perhaps we'll be next so I'll see you here there or in the air
And I hope you will take advantage of this offer, and I think it will edify your Bible study
Can we have a few minutes left here to kind of round this thing up?
How did this affect you that is to say the entire book of Enoch you finished this as a work?
That it changed your life you're thinking in any way
Well, it really made you understand that the whole the whole story given is not fiction, but it's history
So we're talking from the church fathers and everyone else and then our scientists doing the same genetic
experiments having the same results apparently it's all true and
With that in mind the prophecies in there pointing to the first coming of the Messiah
According to scriptures were true
And then the rest of the stuff things happening in our time period was always of interest to me
So they'll probably be true also
So all of that I try to pull together just to try to figure out where we're going what's going on in our society
what to watch for and you know all this talk about genetics and the human genome and and
the very very high-tech
Modeling genetic modeling that's going on these days that which is very scary to me. Yes, absolutely
We've got a couple of minutes
Anything encouraging that you'd like to impart to our audience about this and about your work on the book of Enoch
Well, I keep trying to
Do more of the Dead Sea Scrolls?
They have theology that matches the New Testament. They understand the second coming and the prophecies
So we're trying to focus on them just to learn more
Enoch is amazing because it's got first coming prophecies and prophecies about things happening in our time period
So many generations or so back from when Messiah sets up the kingdom
So again prophecy wise it's amazing to pull all these scrolls together and to learn I just have to share this the Enoch walks
at one point walks up apparently he's out on a
Grass prairie of some kind he walks up to a house
With a door and
he feels the wall of the house and it feels cool or even cold and
He opens the door goes on inside the house
it feels the walls of the house and
It's they have a funny funny feel to him. And this this whole thing is like
you know walking with Enoch as he has a little adventure when he walks into this house and
Wouldn't you know
the Lord
Causes that house to fly with Enoch in it and he gets a if you will an aviators view of planet Earth as
This house flies across the terrain and what I told Ken before we came on is that as a pilot of many years
When Enoch describes what it looks like when he looks out the windows is exactly what I would see is
I look out the windshield of an airplane
thereby
Convincing me that Enoch actually did fly and it's in the book just one more piece of the evidence
It's everything if you're making up a story
It's not gonna fit somewhere and every piece of information we see seems to fit. Yeah, it's sort of
self
If you will self
Amending it's just one little piece adds to another little piece and you look at the whole story
You said this this had to actually happen and that's my reaction to this book
It's it's strange and yet it actually happened. So
Read it. You'll be amazed
You're working on something now that's equally amazing. Yeah
We're going through still the Dead Sea Scrolls trying to pull together all the idioms to understand Paul and things like that better
We're also trying to pull together the pieces of the prophecies from times back to see what the apostasies were like
and if there's any
Similar threads through all the apostasies so we can look and see and understand better what Paul means
when he talks about the apostasy that comes in our time period well our thanks to Ken and
Rita's books. They're always amazing. I'm Gary Stearman. Hey, you keep watching we are
