We are still waiting for Flight 12, which is expected to be the first flight of the V3 configuration. However, one very positive sign is that critical hardware, including the Raptor 3 engine, is already ready. Some of this hardware was recently showcased during a visit by Dow officials.
During that visit, attention was drawn to the engine’s dramatically simplified systems, clearly highlighting the scale of the upgrades. And that is not the full story, as Elon Musk has continued to emphasize even more improvements in this version.
In particular, a tweet from the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley account referenced the Raptor 3 upgrades and included a video of engine testing. That footage may show a recent test or an earlier one. In response, Elon Musk listed several important performance metrics and design features of Raptor 3.

He stated with confidence that Raptor 3 is the best rocket engine ever built, based on several key characteristics.
The first factor to highlight is the 330 bar main chamber pressure. This figure is higher than that of any other operational rocket engine today. The benefits of such a high chamber pressure are significant.
First, it greatly improves the engine’s specific impulse, or ISP. Higher chamber pressure allows for a higher nozzle expansion ratio while avoiding flow separation during atmospheric flight. As a result, exhaust gases exit the engine at a higher velocity, which directly increases ISP. This improves fuel efficiency and allows the vehicle to travel farther using the same amount of propellant.
