Mannerism comes from maniera, in reference to the artworks made at the manner of the great masters of Renaissance. Imitation of the artworks of Leonardo, Raffaello and Michelangelo. Patrons were aristrocrats, who wanted complicated allegories.

Tuscany
Fra Bartolomeo della Porta: he applies architectonic valour to his compositions. Portrait of Savonarola. Vision of St. Bernardo. Pietà. Presentation in the Temple.
Andrea del Sarto: he recieves influences of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raffaello, and the venetians. He paints the Birth of the Virgin, where appear his characteristic femenine type, portrait of his wife. His masterpiece is the Madonna of the Harpies, where the Virgin appear over a pedestal decorated with harpies. It is the triumph of Mary over evil. Portrait of sculptor. Dispute of Trinity. Pietà.
Pontormo: his masterpiece is his Descent, very colorful. Very modelled forms and united by serpentinata form.
Bronzino: one of the best portraitists. Eleonore of Toledo. Lucrezia Panchiatichi. Allegory of Triumph of Venus, the goddess is represented with the apple of discord in her hand, and kissing Cupid, being the main theme the erotism and the forbidden love.

Lombardy
Bernardino Luini: influence of Leonardo. Virgin of the Rosebush.
Sodoma: he did the Nuptials of Alexandro and Roxana, a fresco in Villa Farnesina, where Alexander the Great is with Roxana and his lover, Hefestion. Rape of Sabines. Venice

Adoration of the Sheperds. Noli me tangere. Flora, representation of ideal beauty. Ascension of Virgin. Sacred and profane love, allegory about that terrenal beauty is a reflection of celestial beauty. Second phase when he is more free in his personality. Shining colors. Bacchanal of Andrians. Bacchus and Ariadna. Offering to Venus. Venus and Adonis. Rape of Europe. Flaying of Marsyas. Third phase, quiet observation, more portaits and narrative scenes. Portrait of Andrea Gritti. Venus de Urbino, the lady is not divine, she is more human. The flowers are about erotism. Fourth phase, he leaves the naturalism. Charles V in Mühlberg. Charles V resting. Fifth phase, influenced by the great religious and mythological topics. Allegory of Lepanto, appear Felipe II with his son Fernando facing an angel. Sixth phase is his last period. The death of his wife and friend made him to feel loneliness. Venus recreating with his love to music. Danae receiving the golden rain. Bury of Christ. Pietà. Nimph and sheperd.
Tintoretto: he is also a great painter. Miracle of St. Marcos. Bacchus and Ariadna. Origin of Milky Way, moment when Hercules is trying to drink Hera’s milk to be immortal. Christ in Tiberias. Battle of Asola. Madonna. Discovery of the corpse of St Marcos. Crucifixion. Paradise. Last Supper. Lavatory, after putting water in a jar, Jesus went to clean the feet of his disciples.
Veronese: religious thematic. Apotheosis of Venice. Feast in house of Levi. Marriages of Caná. Jesus and the doctos. Christ in the olive orchard. Family of Darius before Alexander. Battle of Lepanto, appear the Virgin, San Pedro, San Marcos and San Jaime. Mars and Venus united by Love. Venus and Adonis.
Bassano: with influence of Tintoretto. Adoration of Magi. Reconvention of Adam. Christ in the house of Mary, Marta and Lazarus. Arch of Noé.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo: as curiosity, this painter paints fruits and vegetables and they look like faces! It is awesome.
