Check out the best shots of the day from Round 1 of the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open, featuring Justin Rose, Tony Finau, Hideki Matsuyama, and Brooks Koepka, among others.
The Farmers Insurance Open returns to Torrey Pines with plenty of intrigue as the PGA TOUR stops on the iconic cliffs overlooking the Pacific. Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka headlines the week, making his return to TOUR competition via the Returning Member Program and opening his 2026 campaign at a venue that has hosted some of golf’s biggest moments. Chris Gotterup also arrives in strong form as the current co-leader of the FedExCup standings, adding further momentum to an already compelling field. A deep, top-heavy lineup awaits at Torrey Pines, led by defending champion Harris English and featuring a strong contingent of the world’s best, including Xander Schauffele, Justin Rose, J.J. Spaun, Hideki Matsuyama, Keegan Bradley, Ludvig Åberg and Cameron Young. With players rotating between the North and South courses before the weekend shift to the demanding South Course, the Farmers Insurance Open once again presents a classic test of length, patience and ball striking, setting the stage for another memorable chapter at one of the TOUR’s most storied venues.
Absolutely. I think the tougher the better for Brooks.
And next on the team from Scottsdale, Arizona is our 2023 champion Max Poma.
Very nice week at the American Express. It was tied with Scotty Scheffler going into the final
round and he actually had a nice week the week before over in Hawaii as that one just falls in.
Beautiful to watch in its simplicity.
We'll follow it, Gary, with our Trackman technology presented by Titleist, the number one ball in golf.
It's a pitching wedge here for Harris. What a beautiful par three. I mean,
this starts off on a really good line. It's up on a little platform back there.
If it carries enough, it could be good. Oh, this is really good.
Exceptionally good. Michael Thorpe Bjornsson was in the first group of the morning. He's reached
the eighth. 180 yards today, Swanee. What a beautiful iron shot. Oh, a couple of beauties
on the eighth. Man. Justin Rose, his second at the 11th on the north course. It's a soft start,
10-11. He was leaning, it worked. Plays a few yards up the hill, so 180 effective yardage.
Oh, gets the kick. Skipped it up the ridge. The best of them all. Catch up with the defending
champion at six. Oh, this is a nice, flat, long four iron right at the hole. Oh, damn. That is
outstanding. No matter the time of year, you can see why the optimist.
A chip in there for three. Looks like he's drawn a decent line. This rough is thick,
but it is spotty. You can find some ways to work yourself out of these positions here.
See if that's going to climb back to the hole. Aaron Oberholzer will be following this group
all day long. Incredible. State Park is just stunning. Now Koepka. Yeah, this is a key putt
here. Players making a return to these polana surfaces. He was a little tentative coming back.
He knew that he might face a little bit of backlash. First time I've ever heard Brooks
admit that he was nervous. Jason Day, how about this guy? Played well last week at the American
Express. At the 11th, near guard Peterson. Over par as he plays the par three. Cutting
towards that back right hole location. Is it enough to get over the bunker? It is. How about
this shot? Wow, I would have to go out on a limb and say we're going to see a birdie finally at 11.
Here at the 15th location, middle part of the green, kind of in between two levels there.
Right about there. Play from the Englishman. See that G.I.R. stat. When you've only missed
one green thus far, you are swinging the golf club and expected that to come back just a bit,
and it did not. And here is Graceman. And this guy right now, Steve, dare I say,
is taking it to the max. Oh man. I thought we'd have to wait till Navajo
on the weekend for that, but no to bring it home for us. Back-to-back birdies for Graceman.
He now has a two-shot lead. Jeremy Paul tries to shape one into the 16th.
And shape he does. Seamus Power on the 11th, the south side. Upper chair, down the slope.
52 feet or so, and another one goes in at 11, Kurt. There wasn't a birdie there all day,
and all of a sudden they're raining them in from everywhere. Siwu Kim getting a second at 15.
Set up a nice picture for a draw shot with that tree hanging out on that left edge,
and that's what Siwu did. Terrific shot. Hideki Matsuyama. Front left hole location on this first
hole over at the north. Let's see if he takes advantage of it. Yes, I would say that qualifies.
For sure. Sometimes for these guys it just takes one swing though, Noto.
I foresee a long rain session in his future after this round. Now here's a correction.
This is good looking. Oh see, just shut me down, why don't you? Justin Rose trying to climb his
way onto the first page of the leaderboard. He can be so deadly here. These mid-rangers.
Look out if the putter heats up for Justin Rose. Everybody that's kind of pushing to the top
of the side of the course on the north. Justin Lauer from Eagle. This round, this goes in.
Got a chance. Oh yeah, finish an eagle for Justin Lauer and he matches Grayserman
at 900 bar, but Max has a par putt upcoming. As we head to 17 on the south and McGreevy's
birdie putt up the hill. Slow putt. Oh, what a round he is putting together on the south.
And Justin Rose for another birdie.
He's walking him in. Justin Rose.
Not get too much of it. Just like that. And if it gets there, great. If it doesn't,
yeah, that's really well done. Yeah, I agree. He also had Ludvig's bunker shot as well.
Birdie number one comes at the last hole of the day for Brooks Koepka
and he moves to one over par. On the PGA Tour, he needs to really hustle to continue that.
Five north, Hideki second at the par five. Trying to loft a long iron in there and stop it on this
par five green and he's gonna do it. That is a terrific shot. What a shot out of Hideki.
Big gust of wind came up right before contact. Dunked it. That lucky it hit the flag.
This weekend they lucked out weather-wise. Ben Brown for birdie. It's on a better line.
It is. There it is. Ben Brown to three under. Oh, this is an aggressive line.
It's going to carry. Oh yes, it does. And it coaches up there. Another great opportunity
for Justin Rose. This time to get to 10 under par. While all of that was going on
over on the south course on the 16th of par three, Tony Finau.
Be great to see Tony find some form this year after a bit of a struggle last year.
No doubt at the 16th with an ace. What a shot. Something. I mean this rolled in like a putt.
What a beautiful shot. Boom. The fourth hole in one in Tony Finau's VJ Tour career. Check it out.
Just nonchalant. Has no idea that went in. Know that Tony's an easy going guy.
17th hole south course for Gary Woodland. It's another little lob shot.
He's a basketball player, Kurt. Might as well dunk one. Well that was, was it a dunk or a three
pointer? No rim. A lot from Brooks Koepka and we saw a lot from Justin Rose and everything in
between. I can't wait to see Koepka play on the north course tomorrow. Obviously it gives up a
lot of low scores. He needs to shoot a low score to make the cut. It'll be fun to watch. Exciting
day. Koepka back. Rose setting the pace.
