MOM Takes Over

Hello friends. In part one of this video,
Mark started processing moose meat and then he had to go away to a meeting.
So I am taking over and I'm also going to be making dinner with a little bit of
the leftover moose meat that we have.
Mark and Everett prepped dinner by chopping up a bunch of vegetables.
So I'm going to make some rolls and bring you along as we finish up this process
of canning meat and also serving the family dinner.
Since I got to hang out here in the kitchen and watch these pressure cookers,
I might as well make some rolls to go with the soup we're going to make for
dinner after the pressure cookers are done. Might as well use my time wisely.
This is a recipe that I've been using on repeat lately to make rolls and cinnamon
rolls. I'm just trying to decide if I'm going to do 12, 24, 36 or 48
and what to make. I know I want to make rolls,
but do I make some cinnamon rolls too since I'm just at it?
Four cups milk,
one half cup of sugar and 10 teaspoons of yeast,
which is three tablespoons plus a teaspoon.
Set this aside. Come back to it in 10 minutes.
Bosch, this thing is the bread making workhorse.
My mom got this as a wedding gift and they just don't make appliances like this
anymore, but
yeah, it's going to handle quadruple recipe.
We're going to do four eggs, four sticks of butter.
What are you making?
Some rolls because we're going to have soup for dinner.
I figure since I'm getting the kitchen dirty and making dirty dishes,
I might as well make a bunch. I don't know.
My mind always goes to that. Okay,
here's our two sticks of melted butter. We're going to get some salt.
Okay, hold on. One, two, three,
four.
We're going to add our milk mixture and we're going for 12 cups of flour or
until we see it start pulling away on the sides.
It ties by the bread dough.
That amazing how clean the bowl is when you take the dough out.
Okay, put a damn cloth over it so it doesn't dry out and we're going to let it
rise for an hour. I think that was a good use of my time. I've got,
let's see, 43 seconds left on the pressure cookers.
It stayed right at 11 with a little bit of tweaking.
So I'd say that's perfect timing for the two projects. Okay,
we're just going to let them cool down and we'll take the jars out when
everything has simmered down.
I'm going to start the soup for dinner because the meat needs to cook for a
while and I just want it to thicken up. So I'm going to get it going.
Now I'm going to start by cooking up the vegetables that Mark and Everett cut up
and then we'll add in the meat and just let it simmer away for a long time.
Potatoes in there, but that's okay. Wow. That almost fills up the whole thing.
Adding a little bit of flour to help thicken this up when we make the stew.
And then here we have the meat and the broth.
We just need to add a little bit more broth and then we'll be good to go.
I thought he said you can't reuse it.
Very, very hot.
Opening up one can of diced tomatoes to add into the stew and then we're going to
work on the bread because it's been an hour rising in the oven.
These are going into the stew. I always forget to use this mat.
Just makes it so you don't make your counter so messy.
I might scale out. I found that like each dough ball to be about 66 grams.
So it takes me a few to figure that out how much that is and then I can kind of
get the size down and make it on a little too small.
I like to make all the dough about even and then I'll start making the rolls and
roll them like this and then put them in the pan.
Making rolls to go with our soup for dinner.
I am going to make some cinnamon rolls.
I did four times the batch so that I can make both.
Using this mat is nice cause I don't have to add a bunch of extra flour.
It's practicing. She saw me rolling these. She said, I helped mommy.
And she went to go grab her puppy's apron.
Okay.
We have 12 large rolls and 12 medium rolls just cause this container is smaller.
I put these in to rise.
Can I have the stuff off your hands? I have dough.
You're about to use it.
You're going to roll it out.
You want to make the raspberry or the cinnamon ones?
Okay. Bye bye. Come help.
Here you go. Start rolling.
I think you should move it over to the right.
Oh, you just want a piece of dough.
We can't eat the dough all up. We got to use it to make our stuff.
Where's my dough?
I know, but right now we're working on cinnamon rolls.
No more snacking. Okay. Can you come with me? Okay. No, no, no. Don't touch it.
Don't touch it. We want it to be nice.
Well, it's very tasty. I can understand why, but okay. We need to get some butter.
We got to get some butter. Okay. Okay. Can you leave the dough alone while I get the butter?
Okay. You keep rolling, but don't eat it. Okay.
We're making a cinnamon sugar butter mixture to put on our,
yeah, you can help.
Can you stir?
It's not working as well as I had hoped.
No, no, no, no.
You're just here for the snacks. Oh my goodness. That was a lot of butter.
Okay. Don't, don't eat it. Just hold on. Hold on.
We got to put this on it.
Okay. Hold on.
Spread it out. Ooh, yummy.
More cinnamon to eat.
You want to help mama? You've got to not, not sample everything.
You got to leave some to cook. Okay. That's yummy.
Once it's all cooked.
Add some cinnamon. You want to help me shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake,
shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake.
Nope. Still just here for the samples. Okay.
Still just here for the samples. Okay. Now we can roll.
And you're helping. You're a good helper. Okay. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
That was really good. But
now you're going to cut it. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay.
She was eating tons. So mom just gave her the iron.
Hey, there's our creation. No.
All right. These cinnamon rolls are going to go into the refrigerator.
We're going to let them rise in the morning and have them for breakfast.
I think the second set we might cook for tonight and maybe not.
Maybe we'll do both. I haven't decided yet. Oh, careful, careful.
Okay. You're using this big one. No,
this one's a West. This one's separate.
Remember, we're trying to get a rectangle.
Sideways. You need to push back here.
Yep. Keep going. I know we need it long and wide.
I need it. Mommy needs a couple of turns.
Get the butter.
We need a thin layer over everything.
Let's do like, try not to get in this like inch cause it's got it.
We gotta be able to roll it up.
Use your spatula to rub it around. Violet.
Oh, this one might be bad. Just try it. It's okay. I don't care where it goes,
but I just, we'll just try and not. Oh man. Okay.
Let's spread this out evenly and be kind of messy.
I got tons of butter on my thing. I didn't say that it needs.
Do it where I put the ball. Okay.
Do you have the sprinkle side open or the dump side?
I don't know that it needs the brown sugar and cinnamon,
but changing the oven to 375.
Actually I can't remember if it's 350 or 375. What is it? 375.
Check on our stew. Looking good.
These rolls are a bit of a mess. We're going to let them rise.
And then we'll have those, I guess later. Had a lot of help on those.
So got a little bit messy at the end. Here's our baby rolls.
They look great.
It's not very brown. They're just, we want them to be 190 degrees.
I think they just need one more minute and they're not quite done.
Here's our bigger ones. They're just barely turning brown,
but let's see.
Definitely done. Yeah. 193. Put some butter on them.
10. Hi.
Our coach said that there's a chance we might not make it back.
Like if we really have to, there's a school table we can go to.
Get chairs around the table.
I went outside.
Oh, I think they're sleeping.
Tenants are on a 10 day trip, so they are not here.
I'm going downhill.
Raspberry rolls.
All right, we are done.
Leftover frosting from birthday cake.
I'm going to add some freeze dried raspberries to it just to make it pretty.
I'm just going to crumble it in there and mix it up.
I did that on top of Hunter's birthday cake and it was such a pretty color.
Hey, taste test of the raspberry.
Very subtle raspberries flavor.
These look like they're for Valentine's day.
You see something you like?
She's like licking her lips.
What should we do with those, Violet?
What should we do?
No way. She got up there and she's like, yum.
I was licking her lips.
Get a taste test.
Very pretty.
All right. Mark made it home.
And we decided we're going to.
Oh, that's kind of loud.
We decided that we are going to do the rest of the meet tonight.
He's going to power through because we have to go pick up my dad in the middle of
the night at the airport anyway.
So one of us has to stay up.
And I don't have to go to work tomorrow.
He doesn't have to go to work tomorrow.
So we're just going to power through and finish this project and we will end up
with what? Forty two?
Forty two jars of meat, some of which we can take with us on our road trip.
Some will be waiting here for us at home.
We're going to do one more round.
It was really good in that.
After skiing.
We are starting this project at seven o'clock.
Our timer for grandpa to get here says five hours and forty two minutes.
Hopefully we'll be done way before that.
Here's where we're at. These are all just the moose meat.
These are the enchilada ones.
Oh, you found it.
And then we got the two last ones go in.
And these ones are just moose meat with broth, right?
No more enchilada.
It was 13 hours ago it started this process.
It's going to be awesome to have it done.
Yeah. Forty two meals.
That's what I figured. We have 42 cans, 42 meals.
Awesome. OK, they're just getting up to temperature and then it's how long?
Ninety minutes. Ninety minutes.
And then there you go.
So you done by 10 o'clock?
Well, that's got to. Yeah, you could like a 10 o'clock.
You could sit and watch a movie or something and just like let them go down.
Wow. Kitty.
Hi, kitty.
It's hard to stop watching her. She's so cute.
She's got so much energy.
1030 at night and time to get the final batch out.
Oh, 1030.
These jars are bubbling away.
I hear them popping.
That's what you always want to hear when you finish a big project like this.
Good job, hon. Thanks.
You worked hard today. Yeah.
Forty two of these, though.
So so many good meals.
Yeah. I'm looking forward to using these.
And these will stay good for much longer than just like in the freezer.
Oh, there's a pop.
So this is a great way for us to preserve the food.
But it's also great for just making quick meals of stew,
tacos, whatever you need in a pinch.
If you forgot to get meat out or something like that, it's
really nice to have on hand.
Good, good stuff.
And stick around in some future video.
We're going to try one of these enchilada flavored ones
and see if they're any good.
I sure hope they are.
That's a new thing for us.
The rest, I know, are going to be great.
They're tried and true.
Thank you so much for spending time with us today.
We are so grateful for each and every one of you.
And we will see you again real soon for more of this Alaska Life.
