Hi guys, my name is Santosh and welcome to my channel You and Color.
Today I'll show you the other way of drawing a portrait.
In my previous videos I only focused on Lumi's method but today I'll show
you the other method of drawing the outline.
Drawing a portrait outline is all about measurement.
If your measurement is correct then your portrait will look more similar to your reference.
So before drawing it's very important to decide your paper size.
And for this method we will use a little help of photoshop.
So open your computer, open photoshop and then import your image.
Then go to image and make the canvas size same to your paper size.
After that go to view and select actual size.
In this way we are seeing actual size of my paper on this monitor screen.
And the final we need a center point.
To get the center point I'll press crop.
And then with the help of ruler I'll add vertical and horizontal line
to get the center point of this image.
That's it.
Now I can start my drawing on paper.
I'll draw the same lines vertical and horizontal to get the center point.
And then I'll start measuring by using the center point.
First I'll measure the top of head.
Then chin line and the same way I'll measure both the sides of face.
After the outer measurement I'll start adding hairline, eyebrow line, nose line.
And I also measure size of the eye.
Now all my major measurements are done.
And I don't need this straight line so I'm erasing it.
Now time to draw the most important line to get the angle correct.
Center line of the face.
After that I'll start drawing outer line of the face.
I have all the measurements now.
I'm just looking to draw angles.
In this stage instead of drawing curve you can draw only lines.
That just makes the proportion even more perfect.
But it takes little bit more time compared to drawing directly curve.
In the same way I'm completing the outline slowly slowly.
And whenever it needed I use eraser tool.
My camera angle changed and you may feel my drawing also changed.
Because I redraw the eye.
Actually what happened last night my camera's memory got full
and it took a lot of time to copy the files.
Because of these thing I couldn't able to record the changes.
But it's very minor changes.
Till now I only used HB lead to draw the outline.
Even the little bit of shade I only did with HB.
No other pencil.
No other thing.
So my outline is completed.
Time to do shading.
I think everyone knows about tone paper.
Here I'm using grey tone paper.
And that gives me liberty to use white charcoal for highlights.
I'll always try to do the extreme tonal values at start.
The brightest and darkest.
That's why here I'm started with the eye first.
This is 6B pencil.
I'm gonna use white charcoal for highlights.
Then 2B for midtones.
6B in lighter shade and darker shades.
And then the darkest pencil I'm gonna use 10B.
Shading is all about observing the shadow midtones and highlights.
Don't try to do shade in one go.
It means do shading in layers.
For example.
It's easy to judge the highlights and shadow tonal values because it's extreme.
But it's difficult to judge midtones differences.
That's why do shading in layers.
Start with light shades.
Then add more according to your values.
In this way you can get proper idea.
Proper values.
Keep sharpening your pencil.
For the face shading I only used 2B and 6B.
I just changed my pressure according to my reference.
Now shading hair is little different but not difficult.
I'm not trying to match every single hair stand.
I'm looking the flow of hair and shading the flow.
Drawing hair is not like drawing every single hair.
You need to find the shapes in between.
There is always bunches.
You can see in the hair.
The bigger shapes.
My shading is done.
Now we are doing rendering.
In this process we are enhancing our drawing.
Adding brighter and darker value.
This helps the drawing to pop out more.
In this stage I picked my 10B pencil for the darkest tone.
And after that the last touch I'll add with my charcoal pencil.
Thank you so much for watching the video right till the end.
If you enjoyed this video like the process.
Then please put a thumbs up.
And if you have any question please put it down in the comment.
Thank you.
