Mountain Lion Roams San Francisco, Will Be Returned to the Wild

A mountain lion spotted roaming San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood has been safely captured and will be returned to the wild.

Authorities say police spotted the animal just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, trapped in an alley between two buildings.

California Fish and Wildlife officials tranquilized the two-year-old male, which weighs about 78 pounds.

Officials say the lion is healthy and had previously been tracked as far south as Saratoga, suggesting it traveled at least 40 miles.

After further evaluation, wildlife officials plan to release it back into its natural habitat.

No injuries were reported, and authorities praised the coordinated response between police, fire, and wildlife agencies.
