I'm Brooks Rosser. I'm 22 years old. I'm from Bel Air, Maryland.
What do you do up there in Maryland?
I work at a dementia care facility as a medication technician.
Very cool.
How many shows are you playing a year?
I've gone to a couple gigs, but I've only just played guitar. I've never really performed.
Morning, John.
Hey, Brooks. Good morning.
Morning, Skip.
Hey.
How are you, buddy?
Not bad.
Doing all right?
I was just looking at this article on the next generation of accelerators.
Oh, yeah?
I like trains.
You sleep good?
Yeah.
For the last three years, I've been working in the dementia care field,
and it's been extremely fulfilling.
I've made a lot of friendships with so-called patients. They're actually just friends.
Can you sing me a song today?
Yeah.
Growing up, I was a shy kid. I didn't really know how to make my own friends.
My grandmother was always my biggest fan. You know,
she was one person that I never had trouble talking to.
When she first started showing dementia-like symptoms, I picked up the guitar,
and that was one way where we could both practice speaking from the heart.
It would help her learn her words back, and it would help me get mine out.
After taking care of my grandmother, I realized this was a passion of mine,
to be there for people, even if they don't remember me.
Music is one thing that you can't forget.
I think your town is far above most people.
Thank you.
Next week, I'm going to Nashville to try out for American Idol and see if they like me.
I have no experience playing in front of people.
It's going to be a lot different, but I'll just pretend the celebrity judges are
just more of my friends and residents.
I think you're going to do fine if you play like that.
If I play like that?
And you sing like that.
All right.
I'm going to root you on.
What you got? What you singing?
Your Place at My Place by Joshua Sloan.
Okay, perfect.
Wow.
in my place. I'm running out of ways to fix us. I thought I loved you, it was only just
a mix-up. That's what you said when you were crying, cause you missed us. You don't even
know how bad I wish I could fix trust.
Wow.
Woo.
Wow.
Thank you.
Wow.
Gosh, I just want to hear more.
Yeah.
You haven't played out much. And why is that?
I'm working too much.
Well stop doing that. Do you understand why we're so excited? Cause you, do you understand
why?
No.
Man, no matter what you sing, it's going to be beautifully unique.
Yeah. Everybody kind of sounds like somebody else or is emulating someone else. So when
you kind of meet somebody that you're a unicorn, like there's, it's one of one. That's really
cool.
Thank you so much.
What's your favorite song to sing at the place you work?
Probably knocking on heaven's door.
Let's hear it.
Wow.
I'ma take this badge off of me. I can't use it anymore. It's getting dark, too dark to
see. I feel I'm knocking on heaven's door. Knock, knock, knocking on heaven's door. Knock,
knock, knocking on heaven's door.
It's so good.
So good, man.
Woo!
So good.
Thank you so much.
So good. You have a unique style all your own. I have not heard another voice like this
ever. Congratulations.
Thank you so much.
This is major, major stuff here.
Thank you so much.
Did you watch the show last year?
Yeah.
Do you remember Thunderstorm?
Yeah.
Well, he's, he's over there. That's him over there listening to you.
We've been having people dropping by. It's fun.
What do you think, Thunderstorm?
It's amazing, dude. Like, your voice is crazy.
Isn't that great?
I'm obsessed, brother.
Thank you so much.
Thunderstorm, you want to vote?
That's all yeses from me. If you don't get a yes, I don't know what's going on.
It's so good.
Oh, man. Thank you for being in our life. I mean, it's like when you hear Van Morrison.
Yeah.
I think it's another countdown, right?
Oh, yeah.
One, two, three.
You're going to Hollywood Week.
Thank you so much.
