Trump Says China Will 'Eat Canada up Within a Year'

A shift in a key three-way relation on the world stage. Canada has been improving its ties with China, that's as its tensions with the United States escalate.

Are trade deals with China enough to offset a potential fallout with the United States?

On Friday, President Donald Trump said Canada is against the Golden Dome being built over Greenland, even though it would also protect Canada.

Instead, Carney voted in favor of doing business with China, to which Trump responded on social media, saying China "will eat them up" within the first year.

This comes a day after Trump pulled his invitation for Canada to join the Board of Peace.

It's a new organization that Trump established to resolve global conflicts. He says it might replace the United Nations down the road.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote: "Dear Prime Minister Carney, Please let this letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada joining."

Last week, Carney said he planned to join the board.

The rift comes after Carney sought closer ties with China by signing trade deals and taking a swipe at the United States.
