The Pied-de-vent Residence, designed by APPAREIL architecture, is a contemporary renovation of a standard catalog house in Québec, Canada, transformed to better support the needs of a growing family. Rather than demolishing the existing structure, the project focuses on reconfiguring the interior layout, relocating the staircase, and opening up the main living spaces to improve flow, natural light, and connection to the backyard. A restrained material palette of wood, soft mineral finishes, and neutral tones creates a calm and cohesive atmosphere, while carefully placed openings and skylights balance daylight, privacy, and spatial depth. Overall, the project demonstrates how thoughtful architectural intervention can elevate an ordinary suburban home into a refined and functional living environment.
