Cologne Cathedral, one of Germany most famous and impressive buildings and an outstanding example of Gothic architecture. At the time of its completion in 1880, Cathedral was the world's tallest building at 157 metres for about four years, until the Washington Monument, which is around 170 metres, surpassed it in 1884. Only three churches are currently taller than Cologne Cathedral: Ulm Minster, Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in Côte d'Ivoire and Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, but Cologne Cathedral remains the tallest twin-spired church in the world.
