Keyonte George finished with a team-high 30 points along with 6 assists for the Jazz in the losing effort. The Spurs improve their record to 30-13 with the win, while the Jazz fall to 14-29 for the season.
As we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
on MLK Day 2026, it's a Spurs matinee
here in the Alamo City this afternoon.
Tonight, it's the Spurs and the Utah Jazz
for the second time this season.
And we welcome you to the floor.
Jacob Tobey representing the tribe tonight,
along with Sean Elliott.
You played on MLK Day four times in your career, Sean.
This is a special day.
You can just feel the emotion, the reflection.
You can feel it all.
Yeah, I mean, we're all thrilled and honored
to be part of this day and to be here
to celebrate the courage, the life, and the legacy of Dr.
Martin Luther King.
And like we said earlier, a great American
who didn't just advocate for black rights,
but for the rights of all Americans.
1,000% happy to be with you here on MLK Day.
Happy to announce that Victor Weminiyama has
been named an All-Star starter.
6' 3", guard from Kentucky, number 4, De'Aaron Fox.
6' 8", forward from North Carolina, number 40,
Harrison Bars.
6' 7", forward from St. John's, number 30, Julian Champanish.
6' 6", guard from UConn, number 5, Stephon Castle.
And a 2026 NBA All-Star starter, number 1, Victor Weminiyama.
Today we're honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
So on behalf of myself and the San Antonio Spurs organization,
we want to say thank you guys for coming out and understanding
what we're representing.
And we're much bigger than just the game of basketball.
Thank you guys.
Keldon loves the rookie on the mic.
Nice job by the Wildcat.
And we take a look at the starting lineups.
No Lowry Marconin for Utah, so it's
going to be all about Keontae George, Ace Bailey, Cody
Williams, Yusef Nurkic, and Svi Mikhailuk
for former Spurs assistant coach and current head coach
of the Jazz, Will Hardy.
Keontae, one of the top scoring guards in the NBA.
Has been a fantastic sixth man.
He's had a lot of good performances this year,
so they're missing a huge chunk of their offense,
not just Marconin.
He has one of the tippets presented by Pizza Hut,
and we are underway.
Utah has lost three straight games coming into this one.
Two straight against the Mavs in Dallas.
And Nurkic right off the bat, puts it down.
Box guarded by George.
A couple of speedy, quick guards going at it.
Weminiyama, the middie, takes it over Nurkic.
Night of back-to-backs.
Tonight here in San Antonio, then tomorrow night
in Houston against Kevin Durant and the Rockets.
That is Svi Mikhailuk hitting from downtown.
Castle fouled out last game.
Gives it to Barnes, who hits from the corner.
Very comfortably making shots there.
Utah running, and George hitting for three.
He's at 37%, and he's been the best three-point corner
shooter in the NBA the last year and a half.
Victor for three.
Got it.
And it was the second shot he took of the game.
Clock going down.
It's at two.
George has to fade away in the corner.
Front rim of Castle.
Victor again, trailing the break.
Another three.
Yes, sir.
That's just a missed opportunity there.
Fantastic effort by Darren Fox in the backcourt.
George going strong.
Looked like he wanted to dunk that.
Had some of the worst defensive numbers in league history
as Fox puts it down.
In this game so far, Cody Williams on the drive.
That was a nice decision there.
He knew exactly what he wanted to do with the basketball
when he caught it.
The baseline's open.
Doesn't hesitate.
Otherwise, Victor has a chance of getting to it.
Barnes swings it.
Webonyama.
Another one.
Inside Nurkic mismatch.
Champeni.
Mitch Johnson called the timeout, and he's not happy.
George held it out there.
Harrison Barnes blows it up.
Barnes blocking the dunk.
Driving and scoring with the left hand.
That was Victor style right there.
Harrison Barnes has hit a corner three.
Blocked a dunk.
Got that other bucket as George puts down his tray ball.
Camden George is going to be a world class player.
They have themselves a gem in him.
Yeah, he's definitely in the running for most improved
player this year in the NBA.
Champeni for three.
Got it.
Spinning.
Castle driving on Filipowski.
Pulled it up and in.
But I didn't get the worst of that.
You were just honored in the arena for your baldness.
For my baldness, yeah.
But it's growing out, so I'm semi-bald right now.
Enjoying it.
It's easy to take care of.
There you go.
Filipowski.
Bald Kelvin in the game.
Kicking out Carter Bryant.
The up fake.
Back out.
Harper.
Stepping back on Mikhailov.
Yes.
Beautiful looking shot there.
Nice high arcing jumper on that close one.
Mikhailov hits a bucket back.
Dylan Harper.
Swing it around.
Carter Bryant for three.
In transition.
Drop it off to Dylan Harper.
And then Collier kind of wading down the other direction
with the dunk.
He's out there cherry picking.
Actually had a good contest, and he leaks out.
Carter Bryant.
Moving Kevin Love out of the way.
Harper inside.
Cornette.
One more.
And there's the dunk for Carter Bryant.
Going back to last game in this building.
First force of turnover.
Kelvin running.
Throw it up for Fox, who waits and puts in the layup.
Wemenyama.
Another three.
Four.
Good, Jake, good.
You'll have a game with five or six blocks in a little while.
I'd like to get the point out by J.D. Rose, the official there,
not to get run over.
That's good.
Wemenyama.
And their offensive rebound by the Jazz.
That's already their fourth.
But this first force, another turnover.
That's five for Utah.
Fox with speed up and under.
Blown by everybody.
Four times he attempted 10 or more threes.
Will definitely be in double digits tonight.
And he's already at nine.
Mikhailov shot clock at one.
Hits the three.
And that stops a 10-1 Spurs run.
Five-minute mark of the first half.
Harper inside.
Cornett with the dunk.
I thought there was that pass there.
It seems the home defender stepped up to block the shot.
Cornett gives it up.
Fox dancing over Mikhailov.
Hitting.
Put a little flash on that one.
But they're still hanging around.
They're pesky.
But they're 13th in the West.
Harper drills the jumper.
Cody Williams spinning inside.
Got blocked by Cornett.
It looked like he got hit in the face as well.
Fox back the other way.
Another tough bucket for De'Aaron Fox.
He's got 11 points.
244 remaining in the first half.
Harper driving.
The touch is there.
Victor's back on the floor here for the final two minutes.
He's already played 12 minutes in this one
after playing 31 against the Timberwolves.
Pop a shot again.
Oh, once Victor got healthy and the men's restrictions
have been lifted, well, then our defense continues to improve.
George with a team-high 13, but got stripped by Fox.
3-on-1 for the Spurs.
Kessel up for Sam Penny.
Barnes out to Fox.
We're going to see if they can continue that red-hot three-point
shooting that they saw in the first half.
Victor at 21 in the first half.
Barnes acrobatic up and under.
His eighth of the game.
Two away from a double-double.
Drops it off for Sam Penny.
Clean look free.
Incredible additions to the San Antonio community.
Benyama got a technical.
That's why there was a free throw being shot by the Jazz
a moment ago.
And Nerkic gets two off the Spurs turnover.
Spurs by nine.
Their largest lead is 10.
Utah fighting down a couple of guys.
And George is getting cooking.
He's got 20 points.
Quick switch.
Nerkic, three.
He can make that one, not just the pop-up shot.
I'd like to see Victor get going here in the third quarter
with the limited time that he's on the court.
Maybe look for him a little bit more, get him established.
Right here.
Barnes, right for Victor.
Weminyama thinks about it.
Flies in for three.
Six tray balls for Victor Weminyama.
He's able to size that one up.
Had a lot of time to think about it.
Had his legs underneath him nicely on that one.
That was a long three ball.
Deontay George, the big dunk.
Nice cut and nice find by Nerkic.
The Jazz do a great job of sharing the ball.
Barnes, the response.
Steph Castle did a great job avoiding the contact.
Castle lets it fly.
Looking for an option.
You got to play him cold, though.
Don't try to crowd him on the perimeter.
He's not a three-point shooter.
That's what he wants to do.
Harassing the entire time on the perimeter.
Castle, cornet, pokes it in with a dunk.
Clayton Jr. on the drive.
Puts it in.
Sneaky, quick shot there.
Not as nonchalant as last third quarter.
A lot more energy.
Pollier, open three, hits it over Bryant.
Want to do your best to keep him out of the paint.
Castle fades away and hits it.
That's the one I keep talking to you about.
It's going straight up.
You saw early in the season Castle do that.
Kind of fell off as a blade.
Yeah, right.
Harper rattles one in.
That was pretty.
Pressing the ball thing out to the corner.
Pollier, playing with Keontae George, the two point guards.
Filipowski against Bryant, leans in and scores.
Keldon, slow stepping off the window.
Fox with four.
Fox for three.
Fox gives it.
Harper diving on the floor.
Rookie effort, and then Clayton took it back.
Pollier puts it in.
Clayton just hung in there.
He got Victor.
Oh, he was wide open for a second there.
It's Harper instead.
Yes, he did.
He moved that ball right.
He got himself a big time.
Turned over.
Fox looking for an option.
Carter Bryant.
Poke three.
Nerkic waiting at the other end.
I like how Mitch Johnson's off the bench
letting everybody get out of the way.
Let Keldon go to work.
Nerkic.
That's the one that kind of put the ball on the floor,
but it didn't look easy.
He's already at 106.
See how much they can put up here against the worst
defense in the NBA.
Weminyama.
Take a look.
Couple bounces.
Three is for Victor Weminyama.
More animated than people even know.
He's at the Red Macomb's community court opening.
Champagne for three.
Nerkic turns around facing Cornette.
A little French vanilla here.
Oh, yeah.
I thought Luke was coming directly for Victor.
What do you make of that?
French vanilla in the fourth quarter.
Oh, Victor's moving a lot of the basketball there.
Keep your head up.
Dylan Harper rattles in the first half.
Clayton Jr. Nice move.
That was a great, great back throw.
He just turned his ankle.
Spurs a couple minutes away from their third straight win.
Cody Williams knocks it in for three.
Second year out of Colorado.
George wants the screen.
Gets it.
Drives off the window.
Count it, and a foul.
Cornette about to pass it off.
Stolen.
Right back to Cornette, though.
What a slam up.
That's an assist, just not the kind that Utah wanted.
Clayton Jr. back the other way.
13th turnover for the Spurs.
Utah almost gives it right back.
Filipowski kick out.
George, three.
That's good.
Yeah, we don't have to be in a hurry here.
You want yourself a 14-point lead.
No quick shots.
Take your time.
Castle puts it up and in.
Tough bucket.
That was not a mistake on my credit card.
No.
That's just a lot of sushi.
Chimpanzee finishing punch.
Come on, Julian.
That's what you're showing off out there.
That was just a three-point chance.
In this one, Lindy Waters, Kelly Olenek, Carter Bryant,
and Dylan Harper.
The final five for Mitch Johnson and the Spurs,
who have seen all five starters and double figures,
seven total in this game.
And the Spurs get the job done on MLK Day.
They beat the Jazz, 123 to 110.
Seven players in double figures, led by Victor Wiminyama's
33 points.
Thank you so much, Jacob.
30 wins on the season, Harrison.
Fourth quarter, you guys pull away.
What felt different to pull this one out?
I think for us, it was about doing it as a collective.
We knew coming into this game, the last time we played them,
they beat us.
So it was just a matter of us showing up
with the right energy, the right attitude,
and just trying to be better.
He's got to get your hair right.
I do have to ask, your check donation
to the San Antonio MLK Commission Scholarship Program,
single award in their history.
Why is it so important for you to continue to contribute
to this community?
Ever since I got to San Antonio with my family,
the community's just been unbelievable.
So I think just to be able to give back,
to give people opportunity to know that somebody believes
in them, somebody sees them, and that they have the opportunity
to do whatever they want to do moving forward,
I think that's really important to us.
The Spurs are very lucky to have you.
Thank you so much, Harrison.
Appreciate your time.
Jacob.
