The "dream team" – the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and conductor Paavo Järvi – continues with the second movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C Major, op. 21. It's marked "Andante cantabile con moto," which can translate as "walking, singing, with momentum." That indicates what to expect: something calm, but in motion – and cheerful.

The second movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 is slower than the first, but not too slow. Beethoven made that clear by his metronome marking, according to which the music is to be taken at a pulsating, lightfooted pace.

Although scaled back in energy, Ludwig van Beethoven uses all of the instruments in the orchestra in the second movement of the Symphony No. 1. Two lovely themes complement each other and are developed and interwoven in the special way that makes this unmistakably music by Beethoven.

Deutsche Welle and Unitel Classica present Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi, conductor of the year 2019, and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, recorded at the Beethovenfest in Bonn.
