SBIFF 2020 - Florence Pugh Red Carpet Interview (Virtuosos Award)

How does it feel to receive the Virtuoso Award from the Sam Barber International Film Festival? Guys, I mean, look at the people that I'm surrounded by. They're all my heroes. It's unbelievable. It's been a crazy week. Now, you've had an incredibly diverse year. So, I mean, can you talk about working on both Little Women and Midsommar? I mean, kind of polar opposites in a way. I think I'm interested by women. And I'm interested by intriguing, amazing, bizarre, complicated women. And it doesn't matter what genre they're from. In fact, if they can be opposite, even better. I think I was really lucky to have three completely different characters come out in one year. And they represent exactly who I want to be as a performer. So, yeah, they're completely polar opposites. But weirdly, coming to Amy was exactly what I needed to do just after Midsommar. So, in a way, they both helped one another. I see. It kind of helped you shake that up. Totally. I did one of the most insane shoots of my entire life. I don't think I'll ever work that hard. And then I went on to be this amazing, young, free, completely outspoken little child. And that was everything I needed to do and be at that moment in my life. So, weirdly, Amy gave me exactly what I needed to feel. Well, you've helped bring little women to a whole new generation. Yeah. Greta's good at that. She's cute at that. Greta's very good at that. She has such a passion for that book. Well, I mean, these girls, like loads of people, these girls were her siblings. They were the things that she grew up around. And she reread into her adult life. And I think she kind of went back into the book and found who these girls were, rather than sticking to stereotypes that we've known for hundreds of years. So, it was very cool. Definitely. You have a fresh take on Amy. That's absolutely incredible. Can you talk about working with Meryl and Laura and, oh my God, everybody. All the legends. All the legends of this time. Saoirse. Saoirse has been there many times. Unbelievable. Yeah, I mean, working with all of that cast was just, every day we'd come together and we'd all feel like we were a part of this moving machine and not one person was any bigger than the rest of us. It all had to work together in order for it to be perfect. And it was a very ensemble feeling. And, I mean, equally exhausting, but so thrilling. And so perfect. And so perfect. And awards, awards, awards. I mean, this is my first time doing any of it, so this is nuts. Well, so congrats. Thank you. And enjoy every moment of it. Thank you so much. Thank you. Bye.
