Congregation please rise. Please be seated. Thank you. I'm going to try to talk really loud so if
you can't hear me, throw your hand up in the back and I'll try to be a little louder. But I'd like
to welcome everybody here today to this ring ceremony for Taylor and Ryland. My name is Mike
Bonforth. I'm Taylor's uncle and they've asked me to conduct this ceremony. I've known Taylor for
his whole life. We've watched him grow into a great young man. It's been fun watching him
excel in wrestling and football and all the different things that he's chosen to do in life
to become a great in his social life. And I've gotten to know Ryland just over the last little
while as he's been dating, she's been dating Taylor and I've learned that she loves unconditionally
and has a very soft spot in her heart for Taylor. And as she puts it, it's always like the first
Taylor and Ryland have many people in their lives that are important to them, many of which
are here today. That's each of you. I want to pay special tribute to each one of something very
important and very special to this couple. Your love, your examples, your prayers, and sometimes
even your tears have been something that means something to Ryland and Taylor. Your impact has
changed their lives and that's why we've gathered here today. Taylor and Ryland are not just getting
married, they're starting a family. As I had an opportunity to visit with Taylor and Ryland
earlier this week, I asked them first how they met. I was surprised to hear that they first met
while they were serving as missionaries out in the Virginia Mission, although it wasn't until
later on when they were home and then a mission with the Spark was started and has been the rest
of his history. They both shared with me some things about each other that made them fall in
love, such as Taylor's consistency in how he loves or all the sweet things he does for Ryland.
And for Ryland, how her awareness of those around her and how much love, kindness, and respect she
shows to those around her. The one thing they both shared is that they're super excited for this next
phase and this next adventure in their lives. I'm going to kind of make this more addressing
them at this point. So one of the most remarkable moments in life is when you meet the one person
the person who makes the world a beautiful and a magical place. The person whom you share a bond
so special that it transcends normal relationships and becomes something so pure and so wonderful
that you can't imagine spending another day of your life without them. I know how deeply Taylor
and Ryland care for and love for one another and I feel privileged to be here today among all of you
through a lifetime of love for one another. Marriage between a man and a woman has been
the foundation of Heavenly Father's plan from the beginning. In Genesis 2 18, God taught Adam
that it is not good for man to be alone and Eve became his companion. One of the very first
instructions that God gave to any of his children was again to Adam and Eve in the garden when he
said in Genesis 2 24, and God blessed them and said unto them be fruitful and multiply and
have dominion over the fish of the sea and the fowl of the air and over every living and then
he included this charge therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall leave
unto his wife and they shall be one. Now this commandment was given to teach us and to establish
that a husband and a wife and their children are the building block and the foundation for
this world that Heavenly Father has ordained and that his first instruction given to Adam and Eve
in the garden is still in force today. In the Doctrine and Covenants the Lord teaches us and
impressed upon us the importance of the marriage partnership and of caring for one another when
he said thou shalt love thy wife with all thy heart and shalt cleave unto her and none else.
Now this counsel from that scripture simply teaches us this, a spouse is the only person
other than the Lord whom we have been commanded to love with all our heart.
The phrase none else teaches us that nothing else, no person, no job, no activity should get in front
of or interfere with or take precedence over the marriage relationship. Spencer W Kimball has said
the love of which the Lord speaks is not only physical attraction but also faith,
confidence, understanding and partnership. It is devotion and companionship,
parenthood, common ideals and standards. It is the cleanliness of life and sacrifice of
unselfishness. This kind of love never tires nor wanes. It lives on through sickness and sorrow,
through prosperity and privation. Taylor and Ryland, my advice to you today is this,
happiness in marriage equals hard work plus patience plus forgiveness. Learn to be Christ-like
in all your dealings. Pay attention to all the little things and they will not become. Happiness
is not in looking for perfection or in comparing each other to anyone else but it's loving each
other for who they are. Serve each other with joy, serve your Heavenly Father and serve together.
Most importantly, always make your Heavenly Father the third person in your marriage,
literal partner. If you do this, you will be able to overcome anything if you simply said this,
the best life ever. And this is Taylor Ball for it.
