Materials I use to ensure my work is a *permanent testament* of my artistic vision.
Hey everyone, in today's video I'll share my painting process focusing on the way I use
watercolor to achieve luminosity and richness in our paintings. First, I draw the sketch very lightly
and make sure the proportion is balanced. For the still life, I'm using a classical palette
that includes Naples Yellow, Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine Blue. Our first wash will be thin
and diluted colors and we'll apply further layers to achieve that final richness.
As a base color for the pier, I'm applying Naples Yellow. While painting, we need to remember that
we are sculpting a 3D object on a 2D surface. We must show the delicate interplay of light
and shadow in a way that makes it truly realistic. Here, our light is falling from the top left,
so I'm leaving the highlight on the left side. In watercolors, our paper is our highlight.
And then, I'm applying a darker brown on the opposite side to show the shadow. To create
contrast, I'm applying a mixture of brown and blue in the deepest areas to make our objects
pop out from the background. To achieve that vibrant glow, we need to apply the color layer by layer
so that light can pass through each wash.
This patience with the process is what truly builds the depth.
I hope seeing this focused step-by-step approach helps your painting journey a bit. It's a rewarding
discipline that allows us to patiently build something beautiful and lasting.
Thanks for watching, we will complete the rest of the objects in the next video.
