Crane Falls on Train in Thailand During China Backed Railway Project

A heavy blow to Beijing’s ambitions in Southeast Asia. A crane in Thailand collapsed onto a passenger train on Wednesday, killing at least 32 people.

The crane was part of a China-backed high-speed railway project aimed at connecting China to several Southeast Asian countries. It’s part of the Belt and Road Initiative—Beijing’s ambitious plan to project power around the world.
