"Wonderful Night" or "Beautiful Night" by Chinese composer Liu Tianhua is one of the most enduring pieces in classical concerts performed by Chinese orchestras. Here, it's played by the renowned Shanghai Symphony Orchestra at the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland in the summer of 2017. Conducted by Yu Long, the orchestra performed this emotional piece, which was originally written for a solo traditional instrument with only two strings.

This short, sensitive work, is said to have been written at the turn of 1928, which Liu Tianhua (1895–1932) spent with his students at Peking University. The piece became one of the most famous melodies of China's so-called "national music." Originally, Tianhua composed it for the erhu, a two-stringed instrument with a long neck sometimes referred to as the "Chinese violin." Tianhua was one of the most famous erhu virtuosos of his time and was well-known for his playing of the instrument, which sits vertically on the knee and is played with a bow.
