Greetings dear devotees before us stands the Goddess of Hanoi the divine protector of children
People revere her as a great symbol of pure and loving motherhood
Yet few know that before becoming a deity she was the world's most terrifying nightmare
She was a fearsome female demon known for abducting and devouring innocent children
How could a merciless bloodthirsty demon transform into a compassionate Bodhisattva
The answer lies in the profound tragedy of losing a child the most heartbreaking event in Buddhist history coming next
The story takes us back a thousand years to the ancient city of Vương Xá where darkness always loomed heavy with fear
Every time the sun sets mothers hurriedly embrace their young children tightly
They passed around tales of a blazing red ghost often seen hovering over rooftops at midnight
She was Hariti the queen of demons who brought hair loss to every household in the city
She possesses extraordinary power her eyes blazing with fire capable of piercing through the darkness of night
No door could hinder her steps no whispered curse could taint her heart
The cries of infants fade away in the wind leaving behind empty cold cradles
The people's resentment soared to the heavens yet they were powerless against the demons' might
After her grim nocturnal hunts Hariti returned to her deep secluded cave in the wild ancient forest
How strange it was—when she stepped into the dark cave the ferocity on her face instantly vanished
She returned home as a kind and affectionate mother tenderly caring for her large family of children
Hariti had as many as 500 children each one cherished and fiercely protected by her
Among them the youngest child named Binh-dala was the most treasured gem in her heart
She could be ruthless toward the entire world but for her child she'd give up everything
Bình-dạ-la playfully frolicked in the cave utterly unaware that his mother was the very terror lurking outside
The boy grew up in his mother's blood-soaked embrace yet was nurtured by blind unwavering love
Hariti gazed at the child with a playful smile her eyes gleaming with the selfish joy of a demon
She believed that taking another's life to sustain her child was a natural law
But life's law of cause and effect never spares anyone—those who sow evil will one day reap storms
The mournful cries of the people from the fallen royal city finally reached the solemn gates of the Trúc Lâm provincial residence
They fell prostrate at the Buddha's feet tears mingling with dust praying for deliverance
The Buddha sits majestically on a lotus throne listening with compassion to the heart-wrenching grief of those who have lost their children
He knew that using violence to punish demons only deepened their hatred even further
To win over a cruel mother you must awaken the dormant maternal love within her heart
In the morning as Hariti left her cave to hunt the Buddha quietly descended into the realm of the demons
The golden radiance of His Holiness illuminated the darkest corners of the heart dispelling the chilling aura of deathly energy
He saw the little girl sitting alone her innocent smile glowing like a lotus flower
With boundless compassion the Buddha decided to teach Hariti a lesson she would never forget
He gently extended his hand using divine power to draw the child into the small bowl held in his palm
The tiny bowl instantly expanded into boundless space concealing the ancient vessel from all sight
The child remained safe and playing inside yet vanished completely from the outside world
The Buddha departed leaving the empty cave behind awaiting the storm that was soon to come
That evening Hariti returned in high spirits carrying food for her young ones
But her smile faded as she saw no sign of her beloved daughter Lucy anywhere
She called her child's name the cry echoing off the cold barren cliffs
Only silence answered and fear began to creep into her
mind Her heart pounded violently as if it might burst
She turned over every stone searched every dark corner her eyes bloodshot with desperate searching
Madness erupted Hariti screamed shaking the ancient forest to its core
The celestial owl swept its wing across the sky using its mystical eyes to cleanse the three realms thoroughly
She flew to the very ends of the earth asking every passing breeze every drifting cloud
Yet the vast blue sky remained silent no one knowing the whereabouts of the poor child
She plunged into the deep sea stirring the entire underwater realm and summoning a furious tsunami
Yet deep beneath the ocean she found nothing but cold isolating loneliness
Hariti had never felt so small and powerless before fate's cruel trick
The supernatural power of the demon gods once capable of moving mountains and filling seas can no longer bring your child back
She returned to the cave exhausted collapsing in a heap hair disheveled tears streaming down her face like blood
The wail of the sorrowful female ghost was so mournful it caused even grass trees and flowers to wither
For the first time in his life the one who had always inflicted pain now felt it pierce his very soul
She recalls every glance every smile from her child
Her heart aches as if pierced by a thousand knives
In the depths of despair a heavenly being appeared amidst a radiant rainbow of clouds
The deity gently whispered go seek the enlightened one In the Bamboo
Grove monastery to the north only the wisdom of the Buddha resides
Only then can it truly shine and liberate people from their suffering
Like a drowning man clutching at a stake Hariti surged to her feet and charged forward like a furious whirlwind
She arrived at the gates of the sanctuary radiating the blind fury and murderous intent of a demon
But there the Buddha remained seated calmly his aura radiating like the warm glow of the sun
Before that majestic serene presence Hariti's fury suddenly came to a halt
She screamed for her child her voice echoing across the heavens filled with anguish and reproach
The Buddha slowly opened his eyes his gaze upon the woman unafraid filled only with boundless compassion
He spoke his deep warm voice echoing into the bleeding depths of her soul
You Hariti who once had five hundred children now grieve so deeply over losing just one
Hariti wept bitterly in reply
Even if there were a thousand losing one would still be like cutting off a piece of one's own flesh
The Buddha smiled his smile holding the truth of the universe gently unraveling the tightly bound mind
These poor mothers from Chenjiang—some of them had only one or two children and now they've lost them to you
Their suffering was even greater and more terrible than the pain you once endured with ease
The Buddha's words are like the great bell of awakening rousing the conscience long lost in the slumber of countless lifetimes
Hariti suddenly felt a pang of guilt and the vid image of mothers weeping—whom she once mocked with scorn—flashed sharply before her eyes
She saw herself in them and saw them in her own current suffering
Her aggression vanished her legs trembling uncontrollably she fell to her knees before the precious shrimp pavilion
Hot tears streamed down washing away the dust of hatred and delusion
The woman bowed her head in prayer her cries now filled not with resentment but with confused remorse
Exalted One I now understand this suffering is too great and I no longer
wish for anyone else to endure it Please Nālā return me to my child
Vowing to abandon killing you seek refuge in the Buddha's gate
the Buddha is supreme She gently opened the bowl placed beside her
A gentle magical light emanated and little Ping Dala stepped forth healthy and cheerful
Bình Dà La rushed into his mother's arms his laughter ringing out erasing all the pain that had come before
Hariti clutched her child tightly happy tears streaming down her face soaking it completely
She felt the warmth of her child the rhythm of their heartbeat—more precious than any treasure in the world
In that moment a mother's instinct completely overpowered the creature's primal nature
She looked up at the Buddha her eyes no longer fierce but filled with boundless gratitude
The Buddha taught that true loving-kindness must be extended to all sentient beings
Let that love you have for your child be shared and extended to shelter and protect other children around the world
Hariti having received the teachings vowed to abandon her habit of eating meat and to strictly observe the six precepts
To satisfy her craving for flesh and blood the Buddha gave her fresh vibrant pomegranates
Each red pomegranate seed seemed to gently remind her of the lesson of blood and dew from today
On the day the vow was spoken a brilliant beam of light enveloped her body
The rough aged skin vanished revealing in its place the radiant rosy complexion of a celestial maiden
His fierce expression softened and his bloodshot eyes turned into a warm compassionate gaze
Dark jewelry fell away replaced by silken garments that shimmered with radiant elegance
From a terrifying source of fear she transformed into a breathtakingly beautiful benevolent goddess
The people of the royal city were stunned no longer recognizing their former enemy
Instead of fleeing in fear they turned and walked forward feeling the peace that radiated from within
Hariti smiled at them her smile carrying both remorse and a promise of lifelong protection
Her wide arms were not meant to hold them back but to shelter the children as they played and laughed
From then on no child in the city ever went missing or fell ill again
Every time night falls Hariti flies across the land watching over each child's sleep
She驱赶邪魔与瘟疫 bringing sweet dreams to innocent children
The people began building a temple in her honor calling her Hà Lợi Đế Mẫu the divine protector goddess
In the paintings she is always depicted holding a red pomegranate in one hand and cradling her child in the other
Around her are 500 little children symbolizing blessings and abundance
The story of Hariti stands as a radiant testament to the power of compassion to transform hearts
No one is born a demon and it's never too late to turn back
Just by understanding another's pain our hearts will naturally bloom with the most fragrant lotus
The Buddha taught the world a profound lesson in boundless love and compassion
Punishment only breeds more hatred only love can resolve all grievances
Today at the ancient temple grounds the statue of Mother Goddess Ha Lai Dai Mau is still enshrined with solemn reverence
Infertile mothers often come to pray for children placing their hopes and trusting in the protection of the goddess
From a harbinger of death she became an eternal symbol of flourishing life
The image of Hariti reminds us that within every person lies the radiant Buddha nature
Letting go of selfishness and attachment to personal gain anyone can become a bodhisattva right here in everyday life
May all children around the world always live in peace and happiness
