WINTER VAN CAMPING in a SNOWSTORM Goes WRONG | We HAD to LEAVE

We've got a severe snowstorm moving in across the highlands, with the Cairngorms expecting
the heaviest fall. Conditions are set to deteriorate rapidly over the next few hours.
If you're travelling northbound, especially anywhere near Abbeymore or up to one of the
passes, be prepared for whiteout conditions and strong crosswinds. The Met Office has issued a
red warning, meaning travel disruption is highly likely. Welcome back to the vlog guys, this vlog
did not turn out as we planned. We've got damage to the front bumper and little Lil's teeth are
playing up. As you can probably tell, we're in Abbeymore right now. We're actually on our way
up to the top of the mountain, where the ski resort is. Basically, when we were coming from
Glencoe over to Abbeymore, a deer jumped out from the trees and we caught the back edge of it. I was
so gutted. Deer are my favourite animal. We stopped the van, we jumped out, we checked. Jake was
behind us. He said that deer was fine. It jumped over the fence and went into the woods. So we had
a look around. Luckily, I think the deer's alright, but the van's a bit wounded. With Lily, her teeth
are playing up again. She has actually had a lot of her back teeth out, but when she last had her
operation, they had to leave one of the teeth in because they ran out of time. He did say it was
causing a few problems, so she may need to get it extracted at a later date. So I think
we're going to have to head home and get that extracted. But don't worry guys, because we're
still going to be in Scotland. We're still filming a vlog for you lot. We're up here in the mountains,
in the snow, getting involved. Look at this. I do think this is one of the best park ups. It does
say you can't park here for the night, so we're obviously not going to stay here for the night,
but we're going to do some filming around here because it really is magical. We've got
winter all-terrain tyres and they're amazing. They've been brilliant on the van. If anyone
wants to know what tyres we've got, we've got the Confessa tyres. The budget ones are only like
£110, I think they are, £120 each. But I'll tell you what, that's the second set we've had on the
van. We've been, as you know, we've been everywhere. We've been off-road in the desert. We've been up
in the snow. They've not caused us any problems. We've never had a puncture from them. They've just
been brilliant. I'm going to jump in and make a nice brew because I think there's nothing better
than a coffee in the snow, is there?
Give us a wave.
Slap a beard on me and give me a red suit and call me Santa.
Lily's ready in the backpack and I think we're going to go for a little walk and explore
where we are. We've just pulled up in this random lane. I think it's the old logging way
on the way to Aviemore or something. We were heading up Glenmore and then we seen it,
a little turn off and apparently there's like a car park at the end. We've just pulled into this
little lay-by and you know one thing that I've always wanted to do is like dive in something
like that. Have you put your foot in? Yeah, it's just like go and just dive in. It is, it's rock.
Not a rock. No, it really is. Go and just dive on it anyway. I swear I break my collarbone.
Don't fully dive then. Why? Because it might be rock. Yeah, but you've got to go all or nothing,
ain't you? If you're going to do it, do it properly. Ready? Yeah. Let me zip my pocket.
Three, two, one, go.
Oh, it's rock.
Oh my god. It's either rock or ice.
Don't dive in that, it's rock. Oh my god, even the van's laughing.
Oh, that really hurt. Oh my god, that's rock. That's ridiculous. Look at it.
It's an actual rock. That really hurt.
Don't do it at home, kids.
It's telling me off. Get yourself a Vanguardium, guys. Use code Steps5, save yourself some money.
Where do I go down? This bit. Maybe do I flatten that? No, just do it. Oh,
it's the van in the way and I just mow the van. What? You'll flatten it as you go down.
Think less, just do. That's a good, that's good. Take that to everything you do. Think less,
just do. Break your elbow in the process. Oh my god, that was bad. Right, that's enough
pain for one day, that. Didn't go as far as what I thought. Keep going.
This is like the most peaceful winter wonderland ever and then you get Jordan.
Well, that was nice. Day went past and did say that people like me are needed in the world,
so it's all good. So I think we're going to have a little walk
down this way and just see what's about. We have to be careful because the trees
keep letting all the snow drop and it keeps landing on our head.
I don't think I've ever been in the Cairngorms with conditions like this.
It's unbelievable, isn't it? Surely it wasn't like this last time I was here.
No, it wasn't this thick. No, there was not as much snow as now.
I don't think I've ever been anywhere where it looks as winter wonderland-ish like this.
It's unreal, isn't it? It's like Christmas.
Like we're in Finland or that. Yeah, it is, isn't it?
That's literally what it feels like. It's just such a nice walk. I bet you this goes for miles
as well, doesn't it? The best thing ever you could do in the snow is called tree kicking.
It's coming. That was awful.
So in my opinion, if it's snowing or if it's due snow, the Cairngorms is the best place to be.
It's just absolutely beautiful. Glencoe is amazing because of the mountains and everything,
but you lack all the trees where the Cairngorms is full of these, like the pine trees,
the really tall trees. And it just makes it absolutely beautiful.
It is currently only zero degrees, so it's not actually cold. It doesn't feel cold.
But tonight it goes to minus eight, which it has been for like the past few nights.
Our water pipes are frozen and the water, the waste water is unfrozen. So now our sink is
draining as it wasn't, but we don't have any water. So we've just got like loads of bottled water.
So we're just boiling kettles to wash dishes and stuff. So it's not a problem really.
And we've got the diesel heater, which we're keeping on all night. So we're nice and toasty
warm in the van. But I'm pretty sure we came up here like two years ago and it got to like
minus 15 and that was like crazy. But we had our water tank in the back of our van,
like in the garage space. So we never struggled with the frozen pipes or anything or frozen water
tank. We didn't really think about it to be honest for this year. We insulated the pipe,
but not the tank because now it is underneath. But it is what it is. It's not a major issue.
We've just seen that there's a little restaurant cafe 0.4 miles up this road. So we're going to
check that out. We've just got here now. I don't know if it's open, but on the signs it says no
camper vans or caravans down here. But what a spot. It is proper winter wonderland here at the
minute. I'm guessing it's shut. Yeah, the cafe's shut. I was excited for a nice hot chocolate
and a wee. The snow is so deep. I mean so deep. I mean it's knee height all down the sides.
There's little cabins here in the woods. A little bit of a play park. A bit on the left.
What a spot. It is pretty cool actually down here. It's a shame that the cafe's not open.
I was really hoping that was going to be open so I could get a hot chocolate. This,
actually, right, I'm not going to lie right now. Drop down in the comments if you think that this
feels like Finland here now. Check this. This does not feel like Scotland. Not even in the slightest.
Oh my god. There's been so much snow here. It's actually amazing. Wow. And these are lodges you
can rent. It's all these lodges you can actually rent. That one there's got a red roof on it.
But it's amazing. So back in the van and before we head off, I'm going to energize myself with a
holy energy. You guys should all know by now how much we love our holy drink. But if you're new
to the channel, holy is a no crap, no sugar alternative to your shop bought drink. They
don't just do energy drinks. They do hydration, iced tea, and even milkshakes. And they've got so
many different flavors to choose from. At the minute, I'm liking that acai energy. You literally
just add a scoop or sachet to 500 ml of water, give it a shake, and away you go. These are
thermo shakers that you can actually get free when you order a starter set deluxe. These keep your
drinks cold for hours. Absolutely brilliant. The reason I like the energy drinks so much is they've
got a special sort of caffeine in them called Nucaf. And this gives you slow release energy
throughout the day. So if your new year's resolution is to cut out sugary drinks or just
make healthier choices, then give holy a go. You can use code ADVENTURE for 10% off or ADVENTURE5
for £5 off your first order. Thanks holy for sponsoring this video. We're not actually going
to be staying at the top of the mountain because the temperature is significantly colder up here,
especially if we're going to be spending the night. So I think we'll head back down the mountain.
We will nip in Aldi, get something for tonight's tea and park up there. But on the way down,
we're going to try and call at Loch Morlick because it is frozen and it looks so cool.
I think before we head down, we're going to do a quick stop right at the top where the ski centre
is just to see if we can see the Cairngorm Reindeer Head. Oh God, I tell you what though,
I am bloody freezing. I'm ready to get in the back with a brew and the diesel heater on.
I just can't get warm. The views up here though guys, honestly, the view is unbelievable. I just
can't believe how much snow they've had. No sign of the reindeer and it is super busy as it should
be because there is a good dumping of snow so everyone's enjoying themselves on the skis,
the sledges, the snowboards, whatever. It is nice to see it busy, isn't it? It is. So we're going
to head back down now and fingers crossed we can go and get a parking space and see
Loch Morlick when it is frozen because it does look insane when you drive past.
It's a bit risky this, isn't it? Jake's stuck already. Oh God.
Can we get a spade out?
Have you got ASR? Right, rock it back and forward. Turn. Turn your wheel a bit more.
It was going then. No, reverse now. Yeah. Give it some welly. Yeah, boy. Oh, it's going.
I'll dig you out with my spade but it's working. ASR is traction control so what it does is it
turns its traction control off which will allow more power to your wheels. So if you ever go
off-road, always do that. Bought this in Spain and I've been wanting to use this for so long
and now it's my moment. I can use it.
So I think we're going to leave Loch Morlick because we don't fancy getting stuck. So I'll
have to back Jordan out of this road now. We're just here and we need to back out back onto the
main road. Keep it going. Keep it going. Keep it going. Right, well Jake's free. Shout out to the
help Jordan. Push him out. We're safely back down to the van and nice and warm and we're going to
cook up some fajitas. I think Jake is going to come around as well. Jake's coming around for tea.
Jake's coming around for tea. We're going to chill and we're going to play Monopoly Deal. It's the
first time, well I say the first time, like this week has been the first time I've actually played
Monopoly Deal and if you've not played it before it's absolutely brilliant in it. It's just fun.
It's a nice card game to do in the van when it's snowy outside and it's cosy warm in here.
Elise is just cutting all the peppers already. We've got some tomatoes in here. They're all done
and I think, if I'm right, here he is. Here he is. Jakey boy. We've got some chicken,
we've got red onion, we've got lime. Oh yes. I'm gonna go make a bowl of guac.
I'll make it now, yes? Yeah, you can do it. Okie dokie.
Bring your card game. Bring it. Bring it. Can't wait for this now. It's gonna be good isn't it?
It's gonna be mega. So I've made, I think they call it pico de gallo is it? It's like a fresh
salsa basically. It's tomato, onion, coriander. I added a bit of oregano and then I'm gonna squeeze
half a lime into it as well. It looks absolutely amazing. That looks bloody banging that does.
Look at that. We've got the guac, we've got the Jake, we've got the Annalise,
we've got the pico de gallo and we've got the fajitas. Taste test. Go on. Jordan's not doing
it today, he's put the pressure on me. I've already bitten to mine. Good. I mean Jake's
already swallowed this. No it's not. No I'm joking, amazing. 10 out of 10. You heard that,
I was like no it's not. Best one you've done. No it's good though isn't it? I mean Jake's
swallowed this I mean. No it's delicious. So this morning we're going to be heading home
with Lily. Her vet appointment is tomorrow but we need to pick up some medication beforehand to kind
of knock her out a little bit so we can inspect inside her mouth. She has two lumps on her neck
as well which need investigating. They could just be a gland from the bacteria in her mouth,
could be something else. So we're keeping our fingers crossed. We've got about just under
six hours until we get home which is probably more like seven, seven and a half hours with
stops. So I think we're going to set off nowish. It is at 25 to 1. And then usually because she
has had the teeth extraction before, if it is that what she needs, usually we go for the initial
check-up tomorrow which is Friday. It's probably going to be Monday or Tuesday when she has the
actual operation realistically. And then she needs to go back like a week later for a check-up to
make sure the stitches are healing well in her mouth. So we will be filming so at the end of
this video you'll probably see what is going on. And then next week hopefully we can get back up
and she can recover in the van. She'd only be recovering in the van anyway so it doesn't really
matter where we are. As long as that second check-up is fine and everything's healing well
she can come and snuggle up in the van. But I want to say this in like the nicest way possible
without coming across as really rude because I really don't mean it to come across if it does
come across that way. But obviously with posting things on the internet, with posting like our
comes a lot of comments. Now we're obviously dealing with this with us and the vet and the
vets obviously know the best for Lily and her situation and what's going on. So please, please
don't leave comments saying or it could be this or it could be that or like vet advice because
obviously we're speaking to the vet and that's all we need. I don't know if that comes across
really rude but I really don't mean it to be. It's just there's nothing worse than reading through
comments when and then people scaring you with something else that's going on or making you think
oh what if it's this. So I'm just going to leave it between me, Jordan and the vets and Lily
obviously to sort out. I hope that doesn't come across awful.
Bye my lover. Bye my friend. You have been the one. Bye my friend. You have been the one.
You have been the one for me. You're beautiful. You're beautiful, it's true. But now I'm tired.
Those three wise men, they've got to send me by the sea. It's not me, it's not me.
Don't know the words anymore. Bye. Hands free mate.
So we're back home. It is the morning of the vet appointment and we have two tablets to give Lily
before the inspector mouse. She's shaky because she wants her food. She's got it on the side so
we need to try and give her these tablets. Fingers just gone in the dog food. Right,
come on, eat your tablet. Go on, eat it, eat it, eat it. She's done it. Right, this one next.
If you ever come round to ours for dinner, best believe that you've had a spoon that's been in a
dog bowl. I'll give you the spoons that have been in the bowl. Don't worry, they get washed.
Sharon's curbing around here, isn't it? Are you sure they get washed?
Yes, you done it? Yes. Good girl. Just give her the thing now, she's fine.
Good girl, Lil. So these tablets were to like calm her down, kind of like a mild sedative.
Two small tablets, £41 and then it's the consultation, consultation. On top. On top and
then if you have to do the surgery or whatever, that was like £6.50. I think it comes to nearly a
thousand pound in it last time. Last time, yeah. But she's worth it. But she's just run out of
toothpaste, so I've just gone to Beth's at home and I've picked up some more toothpaste and some
more of the water additive. So hopefully we can keep on track of her teeth. We have been pretty
good with it, we've been putting a plaque thing on. Yeah. But obviously sometimes there's just
nothing we can do, it just happens. This is Lily's jaw full of stuff. Full of stuff, but this plaque
off, it's really, really good, isn't it? Yeah. It has been keeping her teeth quite like in mint
shape, but all her front teeth are really good. You just put like a spoonful. Yeah. It's just the
back teeth that are struggling. Yeah, that's it. I think she's only got one left though, hasn't she?
Yeah, and we brush it, we brush her teeth with the little finger, but she never lets us get near
her back teeth. So hopefully, she's all good. Hopefully they check it, it's not that bad,
all you need is antibiotics and then we can go back to Scotland and enjoy the snow.
The only thing that's worrying me slightly is obviously the two lumps in her neck, but I'm
hoping they're just like a gland swelling up because of the bacteria of her rotten tooth.
The reason we know that back tooth is rotten is because last time she had the tooth extraction,
she was under for too long, under sedative or what do they call it when they put your...
She was under anaesthetic. Anaesthetic for too long because one of the teeth took too long to
come out. So they did say she has got one more rotten teeth, but it should be fine.
She's in good spirit. She doesn't seem to be in pain or anything.
It's just those lumps, we need to make sure that they are glands and nothing more serious,
really. But then they might look at the rotten tooth and be like, no, we do need to extract that
back, extract that back, I can't speak. Lily. Stop shaking now.
So we've just come out of the vets, Lily's a little bit whacked out after her mild sedative.
Sedative for them to look in the mouth because she's just terrible in the vets.
But they've said, do you think the two lumps in her neck are lymph nodes reacting to like the
bad bacteria basically from her back tooth, the one that was rotten last time? That is going to
need extracting. They had an opening on Tuesday, but they did say she's eating, she's drinking,
she's fine in herself. Yeah, she's not getting any pain from the tooth.
Yeah, she's not in pain. There's just a bit of bacteria around the tooth,
but they said she'll be fine until the 18th of February. Yeah, so we said, like obviously we've
drove home from Scotland to come and see obviously the vets and stuff. They said they're more than
happy for her to wait until the end of Feb, which would be home anyway, doing the MLT and stuff on
the van. She said she's not really got any concern. He did also say if she does start getting
any pain from it or any problems with it, then you can give them a ring and bring the gate further
forward. Yeah, we can bring it forward. Or if she's going off for food or anything. But at the
minute, she's good. It is going to need extracting, but we can wait. And that's the last bad tooth at
the back of her mouth, isn't it? All the other teeth look really good. Yeah, she said all the
other teeth look in really good condition. We have been brushing and putting all the stuff on,
so that looks like it's working. So we've got a very floppy dog for the rest of today, I think.
She's chill. I'm just so glad she's okay. We're gonna go and get a few bits and then head back
up to Scotland tonight, now that we know that she's okay. So we've just come in Pets at Home
to get Lily some boots. She's got snow boots. She's got one on. She actually seems fine with
it. It helps that she's a bit knocked out.
What's going on? Oh, no. Come on.
After letting Lily rest for a couple of hours, we headed back on the way up to Scotland.
And we're back, back to the Cairngorms. And the only downside is the snow was gone in two days.
Two days ago, it was absolutely bellowing it down in snow, and now there's nothing.
I even bought bloody snow boots and I can't use them. I can't believe how fast the snow
has literally melted everywhere. I mean, look, it's all green lush grass. Everywhere you look,
it's just green grass. My mind is literally gone. But one thing I did notice last night was,
when we was in the van, we've been having our diesel heater on one overnight and that keeps
the van at a nice temperature, nice and warm inside. But last night, we was like, it's too
hot in this van. We had to turn the diesel heater off and turn the fan on and we were shocked. And
when we came outside, it felt like boiling earth. So when we stood outside, you could stand in your
boxes and it wasn't even cold. The temperature changes in Scotland at the minute are absolutely
wild. We were having like minus nine, minus 12 and it was cold. And then for it to be two days
and now it's like four or five degrees, it's just, it's like overnight, it literally changed. While
I was at home, we didn't fix the damage on the van because we're coming up to the MOT in February
and we need to do a bit of work on the van anyway. So I think we're going to be bringing some
upgrades to the van. Suspension wise, also sort that front bumper out, tidy up a few little bits
on it and get it ready for a next big trip. We was up at the mountain last night and the wind got
that bad. We actually had to drive down here. We didn't stay there at that car park. We stayed
in this car park here and we had no issues, like really nice, no wind, nothing. But as you can tell,
trees were coming down everywhere. I've got some dash cam footage of trees
snapping and dropping into the road. Oh, crazy, absolute crazy night. It is a shame about the snow.
However, we've got our fingers and toes crossed, hoping that next week will bring us an absolute
dumping. What I do want to know from you American viewers and from you Canadian viewers, do you get
the same problems over there with the temperature changes and the melt? Because the melt here and
temperature changes are actually wild. I'm going to make some food because I'm getting quite hungry
now. We've got some tins of beans. Oh yeah, this one's got sausage in and we've got some Scottish
eggs. So I'm going to make scrambled egg, some beans, get them down me and it uses a mutt so
they're not sat in the van. Does anyone remember the saying beans, beans, mutt? What is it? Beans,
beans. The more you eat, the more you fart. Are they good for your heart? The more you fart,
the more you eat, the more you sit on the toilet seat. That's a good one, isn't it? No, no pooing in the van,
no stinking it out. Nice quick meal. Such a simple thing but tastes really good. Well,
that meal was banging. I was so hungry I was thinking I just need to get something down me
but that will be the end of this video and don't forget to join us next week where hopefully we'll
get some more snow and if you did like this video please consider liking and subscribing and don't
forget to drop us down in the comments below where in the world you're watching from. We'll see you on the next one.
