Good morning friends. Bennett got these out and got them rising. Looks like they probably are
gonna work just fine too. Well I can make an egg now that I'm done with the bacon if anybody needs
one. This second batch had extra butter so it kind of like caramelized on the bottom. They're very
yummy and I solved my mystery. I can put them in the fridge over the night and then cook them in
the morning. Let them rise and cook them. See that caramel down there? Brown sugar and butter.
So Mark and the older boys are heading out. They're gonna get the ice fishing tent set up
and everything ready to go and then we'll meet them there. You got your long johns on?
Gotta get my long johns on. I'm in my jammies. I can't wear my jammies to the lake.
Okay see you in an hour. Okay we'll get it all ready for you. Thanks. Are you taking this fish finder?
Yeah I gotta come back. Okay. All right we made it into the car. It is 10 20. We're supposed to meet them
at 10 30 which is perfect timing. Got a beautiful sunrise here. I've got the three younger kids.
I would not be surprised if Violet falls asleep because she didn't. We did not sleep very well
last night. I'm gonna need a nap this afternoon after ice fishing I think. So let's go find the
rest of the family. It's a clear day right here. We'd be able to see Denali right now. I turned
it on just in case and then those moose ran across the road. Thankfully we saw them. Plenty
of time to slow down. Everett chose to get dressed here. It doesn't look like they're that far out.
I've only been on the snow machine once so it'd be fun to get to ride it again.
And it came over to give us rides and pick up the snacks. I'm just letting Violet nap for a few
minutes. It was really grumpy after kind of a poor night's sleep and I'm hoping once we get
over in the tent if she's had a little nap then she'll be a little happier. I gave Violet about 45
minutes to nap and to get myself dressed. I think she'll start waking up here. It's about two degrees
out today which feels really nice and warm. We've had a very cold spell over the last couple weeks
and been in the negatives. One time we tried to come out here ice fishing and it was like
negative 15. So we're gonna take positive two and enjoy that. The sun is out.
Can't remember the last time I got in full snow gear. It's been a while. Okay, go out on the lake
Go fishing? You want to go ice fishing? Yeah.
Did you have a... Daddy's out there, yeah? Do you want to put on your snow clothes? Yeah. Did you
have a good little nap? Oh, you feel better now? Yeah. Okay, let's get you dressed. I'm gonna turn
the car off or we're gonna get too warm in here while we're getting all our layers on. Oh,
you're close. You ready? Oh, Mark's calling.
Hello? Hey, we're just getting snow gear on. We'll be ready in about five minutes.
Bye. Love you too, bye. All right, they've caught some fish which is good. Sometimes you do all
this work, set up all the fishing stuff and then there's like nothing. It's always a chance. But
I did caught a fish. Oh, you want to go see a fish? Yeah. Yeah.
Isla was very excited when she saw her snow suit. This girl knows that means there's an adventure
ahead. Okay. Whoa. Whoa. My feet. Yeah. Your feet. You got your nice wool socks on with cats on them.
Actually, let's put your gloves on and then put them through maybe.
All right. Here you go. Purple gloves.
Okay, hand. This one. I need this one first. There we go. Good job. Can you put your thumb over here?
That's okay. Oh, your hat fell off. That's okay. I got it.
Can I have your hand? There we go.
Daddy's going to come get us.
Okay. Can you push your hand through? Oh, bend your arm. Bend it. There we go. Okay.
All right. There's Violet's hand. Push it through. Push it through. I see it. I'm going to pull.
Okay. There we go. There's the hand. Where's the thumb? The thumb's stuck somewhere. Oh,
there it is. I think your thumb's even in it though. Okay. Now we got to push this hand through.
There's the hand. Where's the hand? Okay. It's tight? Yep. That's okay. Okay.
There we go. Hat on. Zip up. Okay. You sit up here in mama's seat and then I'm going to finish
getting ready, okay? I got to put my... You put right... Sit right here? On your feet, huh? Okay.
Boots, boots, boots. I got your boots. One boot. Two boots. Two boots. There we go. Is that on?
All right. Now mommy needs a hat. A hat. Overalls. I see daddy coming.
Let's go fishing. Good job. Daddy came to get us. Okay. I'm going to come get you.
Here. Have one little drink before we go. Can you drink? Okay.
Oh, wow. That's a big fish. That's a good size fish. It almost fell in the hole.
Nice and warm in here. Did you see the fish? Did you see Bennett's fish?
Nice one, Bennett. That was good. Yeah, fish. Bennett's fish. Yes. Good job.
We got double fish. No, no. It's not on. Oh, this one is. Reel it in. I'm reeling. I'm reeling.
No, no, no. It's okay, Violet. It's okay. Okay. Oh, he's not getting it.
Bennett, can you turn this out a little? He got self-release. Bye-bye, fishy.
What do you got, Sarah? I finally got one. We got the two-fer. Good job, ladies. That's a nice one.
Oh, it might be down the... I couldn't get him to bite it. Now it's like... Do we have tweezers?
I have pliers. Pliers? Okay. It's kind of down there. Okay. Who's got Violet? Because they
west into Violet. Okay. It wouldn't work very well. All right. Well, nice job. Okay. I would
try to bait up this other hook. Do you need bait? Oh, I need pliers to get it off. Okay. All right.
I've been here two minutes. I caught two fish. That's my kind of fishing. We had it all primed
for you. Yeah, you did. Oh, thanks. Yeah, Sarah, that one, the barbs on these ones are a lot bigger
or the hook. And that one, it might be why it's... Is it still on there? Yeah.
Well, this one we might have to keep, Sarah. I was waiting and then I had to just yank it.
Yeah. Well, maybe we need to put a bigger hook on here. Wow, they're big. Yeah. Well, this is good.
I mean, what are we at? A dozen or so? Okay. Now that there's a lull in the excitement, man,
I walked in and there were three fish on and three different fishing poles. That was exciting.
So this is our ice fishing tent, the double wide. We had to upgrade after a couple of years because
it was just not quite enough space. We've got two buddy heaters, got a cooler. That's an extra seat
and got some food in it. No, just showing the setup. It's very nice and warm in here.
What are you guys up to? Ready? Up in the air. Up, up, up there.
Hey, Violet, let's go see what your brother's up to out here.
You see anything on the fish finder? When we pulled in this morning, it was about one degree
at the parking lot. Maybe it's warming up a little bit with the sun. You're going to feel
them in there. We can see them hit it. So it helps. Is it ready? All right. Take it off.
All right. Let's see your fish, Hunter. All right. Nice. Maybe compared to that one.
Holy moly. That's a big one. Wow, Everett. Hunter's is taking that line.
Okay. Nevermind. Just do Hunter again. That's awesome.
I don't know if I'm going to be able to pull it up with this rod. It's huge. Here,
I'll come help you. Oh my goodness. You're burning yourself. You're burning yourself.
Hunter, I'll help you. I'll help you. Oh my goodness. That's bigger now.
That's about the same size. Wow. That is awesome. Smile. Wow. These are good trout, man.
These are awesome. I didn't imagine. And these are like wild type fish. I mean, there's...
Every time I've gone ice fishing, we catch little trout, you know,
five or six inches. Not anything giant like that. Wow. I can't really see what's going on,
but I can see on the radar there was a fish. Mark, put the fish finder down. Okay. There's
another fish that showed back up. Oh, there's a fish, right? Yeah, it swam by. There's a fish.
I can feel it. I can see it. Yeah, it's still around. Violet, what are you doing? You're
going to try and catch a fish? This is a tradition. Baby fish. Okay.
We've got a Christmas tradition to eat. My boss's chocolate she gives me
while we're ice fishing. Pick one. Is there a menu? Yeah, sort of.
Okay, you guys get one at a time. Oh yeah, we need the menu. Open that up.
Just hold it. Just hold it. I'll let you know if there's a fish.
Come on, fish. Is that what you're saying? Come on, fish.
Maybe if we're quiet, it will come quicker.
Really telling her we got to go for a walk. There's no fish. And then a fish got on Violet's
thing. You caught one. You want to catch one? Wait, up, up, up a little.
Look, when you have one, you're going to hold it, and then you're going to grab your other hand,
other hand, other hand, and you're going to reel in. Look, hold on. You got to reel.
Or just lift it up. With ice fishing, you can just lift it up.
Do that. How do you reel it in? Her bait's already gone. There's a fish down there. Let go,
let go, Violet. Okay, let's get it down. There's a fish. Here you go. Here you go. Okay, hold your
line. There you go. You're good. Lift it up, up. Up, up, up. Here you go, a little bit.
Got her own idea about this fishing stuff. Fishing. Here you go. Fishing, yep.
Okay, you want to go for a walk? No. Or do you want a fish? Fish. Okay.
Well, last time we said we were going to go for a walk, she caught a fish because I was...
Oh, easy. You got one, you got one, Violet. You have one. You have one. Oh, man.
You had another one. Yeah. Yeah. Dad. Dad. Yeah, Violet's had two fish.
Every time we threaten to go for a walk, Violet's rod catches a fish, so
we go for a walk. Stepping out to get some exercise, enjoy the sunshine while it's out.
Hey, Violet. And there's a yeti in the trees. Oh, it's got kind of creepy eyes.
Can't hear her, but she says, come on, Dada Mama. Come on, Dada Mama.
Hi. Thank you for the hug. We had two moose run across the road in front of us on the drive home.
Yeah. But we could see them. They were standing there, and then decided to go.
Glad you guys didn't hit them. We weren't that close.
Come on, Violet. Come try it with Mom. Oh, you're going to do it? Yeah, move those arms.
Back and forth, up and down. Yeah, keep going. Yeah, nice. You got to flap your wings. Very nice.
You see your snow angel? Yeah. Violet has really taken on this challenge seriously.
She wants to make more and more snow angels. I don't know if you can see it, but Denali's
trying to come out. Denali, Hunter, Forker in the distance. For perspective, it's one o'clock
in the afternoon. This is about as bright as it's going to get today. Yep. Made it back.
Having the meatballs, warming up enchiladas from last night. Super good warmed up.
Second group is about to arrive, so I've got their
buns toasting to get ready for their, and we're going to get a fire started
if I can find some kindling. Violet, what you doing?
They're still a little bit soft, but you can, yep, go ahead and have some.
They're just a little bit gooey still. Okay, yeah, you're right.
Wow. I think you should take that. A stock? That'd be a great move. Yeah.
Are these the dinosaurs that go to the supermarket?
What a full day of fun. I'm going to take a shower and then we're getting in bed.
Whatever's in here flexing in the mirror. Can I see your muscles? Wow.
We're so grateful for each and every one of you that spends time with us. We'll see you
again real soon for more of this Alaska life.
