There’s a ton of content on Netflix, so much that even great movies slip through the cracks. Today, we’re diving into some of the most overlooked and underrated movies Netflix has to offer. Plenty of hidden gem Netflix movies that are well worth your time.
Netflix is loaded with movies, but some of the best ones are buried so deep,
you never know they're there. Today, I'm shining a light on
seven excellent films that deserve way more attention than they've gotten. Welcome back,
everyone. Matthew here with Citigold. Our first pick is one of the most powerful war movies you
can find on Netflix. This Danish war movie is called The Bombardment. In some places,
it's known as The Shadow in My Eye. It's based on true events. The story follows students,
soldiers, and everyday people caught in a deadly Allied bombing of Copenhagen in World War II.
The movie is tense and sad, with quiet human moments broken by sudden bursts of violence.
It doesn't only show soldiers in battles, it shows how war hurts ordinary people,
and it reminds us that even good intentions in war can end in disaster, a truth that still
matters today. Our next film is one for horror fans. It's called Under the Shadow and is set
in the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s. It follows a mother and her daughter who feel a dark spirit
has entered their home while bombs drop on them from the outside. Under the Shadow is a really
good horror film that starts off a little slow, but builds up the scares as it goes. There's not
only a supernatural terror, but also the fear that death could strike them at any time. It's
a Persian language film and not English, which might be why Netflix never really pushed it,
but it really is one of the best horror movies you will find out there, and a must-see for
horror fans. Next up is another Danish film called Against the Ice. Against the Ice is about two
explorers who journey into icy Greenland in 1909, but end up stuck and alone in one of the coldest
places on Earth. The film stars Nikolai Kostor-Waldau as Captain Einar Mikkelsen, and it
shows the slow fear of being completely cut off from the world. The captain fights with the
loneliness, endless waiting, and the hope that rescue might come. It breaks him down mentally
and pushes him close to madness. Against the Ice is a simple survival story, and the fact that it's
based on real events makes it even more powerful. But if you're in the mood for something less
serious and more funny, check out Bad Trip. It's a hidden camera comedy kind of like the Borat
films. It's about two friends who go on a road trip across America, pulling pranks on people
who clearly don't know what's going on. It stars Eric Andre, so if you've seen his show or the
Borat movies, you'll know the kind of humor to expect. I found Bad Trip to be very funny. It's
one of my favorite Netflix comedies, and if you like prank-style humor, you should give it a try
as well. Next up is a good movie for thriller fans. It's an Australian film called The Stranger.
It's about an undercover cop who becomes friends with a murder suspect in order to get close and
look for evidence. The Stranger is a slow-building crime movie that keeps you hooked because you're
never really sure if the suspect is guilty or not. Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris both give great
performances. It's a strange movie with a heavy, dark atmosphere. It's a film that may not be for
everyone, but I enjoyed it quite a lot. Our next movie was made by director Bong Joon-ho,
the same man that would create the huge hit Parasite two years later. His 2017 movie was
called Oakjaw. It's a strange and emotional story that didn't get as much attention as Parasite,
but was also very good. It's about a girl whose best friend is a pig-like animal named Oakjaw,
but big companies are trying to take Oakjaw away, so she sets out on a mission to save her.
The movie has a strong story. It has some powerful emotional moments. It's got action
and adventure. I think a lot of Netflix users have probably scrolled right past it,
but Oakjaw is definitely worth a closer look. And finally, if you're an action fan,
you'll want to check out Athena. Athena is a French action movie about the death of a young
boy that sets off a violent fight between police and people in a Paris housing project. The film
is full of long shots, big action, and a raw energy that pull you in from the start. The
opening scene is one of the best you'll see in any Netflix action movie. There are deeper ideas
in the story, but it works best if you just enjoy it as an action ride. Netflix barely promoted
Athena outside France, but for action fans, this is a hidden gem you don't want to miss.
Let me know what you think in the comments below. What other hidden gem movies have you found on
Netflix? Thanks so much for watching everyone. I will see you again soon.
