The Scariest Drive so far - the road to Orus In this episode we head further inland and into the Pyrenees Mountains. Marianne used to go on family holidays to the mountain village of Orus. Only one road in and out and is the most frightening road so far on our European travels. Hope you enjoy this episode
Oris! You said it right! It's beautiful! Instagram picture postcard heaven!
But, word of warning, the road up here, once you start, you can't turn around.
Anything bigger than Trudy, I wouldn't come up here. In fact, I'm not sure I've come up here again.
I'm not sure we're going to get down. So we are heading up to a village or town called Oris.
It's a village. Why are we going there my loveliness? It's so beautiful and I love trees
and it's just so beautiful. The scenery here, I think the next few days going through Andorra
along the Pyrenees, we're going to show you guys some really cool sights and I'm really excited.
I mean we're just saying actually we might even spend longer.
We might even spend longer! Look at this!
So we've stopped in a village called Vic de Sus and it's just below Oris and Oris is up
behind us and we've stopped because it's a really pretty village and we thought we'd just stop and
have some lunch and on park for night there are a couple of spots but you have to pay eight euros
for water and camping and that's a bit above our budget. Well it's not but we don't we resent
paying money unless we absolutely have to. So we're going to show you how beautiful this village
is though because if you look behind us look at the trees everything is turning so it's got that
real deep autumnal feel and it's just very very pretty and Chris is going to go and film the trees
to get some close-up. The road to Oris. Hamlet of Oris, it is absolutely tiny and beautiful
and we're just going to have a walk around. In the distance you can actually see snow
on the mountains. I'm trying to remember my way around to find the vantage point. I think it's this way.
Behind us that's where we stopped for lunch. All the way down there you can see the bridge
over the river that's where we had lunch today. It's a long way down. Very long.
Oris. You said it right. It's beautiful. Instagram picture postcard heaven. But
word of warning the road up here once you start you can't turn around.
Anything bigger than Trudy I wouldn't come up here. In fact I'm not sure I've come up here again.
I'm not sure we're going to get down. If you meet something in Trudy it's going to be interesting
and to be honest there's a sheer drop of hundreds of meters on the side of the road which will be
my side on the way down. You're going to say you'll be able to hold the GoPro out. I'll show you on the
way down but it is beautiful. You can see the snow on the mountains behind us. Absolutely stunning.
And as a child I used to come up here and there was a French family called the Thiemals and they
had a couple of daughters and so the parents would go off and do their thing and us kids would just
hang out in the mountains and then sometimes we would go and find big rock pools with waterfalls.
They're everywhere. The river here coming off the mountain and you would find big rock pools
that you could swim in. It was great fun. Great fun. Stunning. It's going to be a beautiful few days.
I'm pleased I shared it with you. I'm pleased you shared it with me
but I'll be more pleased when we've made it down. Yeah let's see how that works out. Yeah.
Yes.
