Megan and Marley show you how to create an easy balm for knocks using one of our most beautiful and abundant native flowers - the common daisy! You will need: daisy flowerheads, olive oil and either beeswax or soy wax (you can grate down a candle made of either of these if you don't have wax beads). Happy making!
Hi guys, Megan and Marley here from Badger Forest School. We're not back in the woods yet so we're
filming this video from our outdoor cooking space in our garden. Today we're making a balm to put
in our forest school kits for when we get bumps and knocks. Our balm will be made of the common
daisy. The common daisy, also known as bruisewort, helps reduce inflammation and swelling
and promotes healing wounds. This means it has been used for centuries as a medicinal plant.
The first step you need to do is gather about half a cup of daisy heads, making sure you don't
take too many from the same area. Then you need to cover your daisies with olive oil
and make sure they are all covered because you don't want them to mould.
Then you need to leave them for two to three weeks in a sunny spot, occasionally giving it a small
shake. Then you need to strain it. Then you just put the daisies to one side. Now you're going to
pour your daisy oil into a saucepan and add about three tablespoons of soya wax or beeswax.
We're using soya wax because we're vegan. Now you put it on a gentle heat and wait
until the wax has melted. Pour your oil and wax mixture into a couple of containers
and leave them to set. We're going to put
heads of daisies in ours to make sure we know what type of balm they are.
Keep your daisy balm and have fun and post your pictures. Bye!
