House in Ginowan, designed by Matsuyama Architect and Associates, is a 245-square-meter family home in Okinawa that rethinks residential living by prioritizing intimacy and spatial connection over panoramic views. Rather than building vertically to reclaim distant ocean vistas, the architects developed a horizontally layered, single-story composition that follows the site’s natural slope, creating a sequence of interconnected platforms. This approach allows the house to respond sensitively to climate, sunlight, and daily family life, while maintaining openness and visual continuity throughout. Through its carefully calibrated levels, material choices, and warm concrete exterior inspired by the island’s soil, the house offers a contemporary interpretation of collective living rooted in place and lifestyle.
