Vecna and Holly Wheeler put aside their differences as Jamie Campbell Bower and Nell Fisher share Stranger Things filming experiences and swap career advice in the Netflix photo booth.
Cute.
Hi, Nell.
Hi, Jamie.
How are you?
I'm doing good.
I'm excited for this.
I'm ready.
Let's go.
After you.
Oh, wow.
This is...
This is pretty cool.
This is actually really cool.
Yeah, we're ready.
Oh, photo booth of truth.
Who was the first person that you told that you were going to be in Stranger Things?
Elijah Wood.
So, it was April 2023 and I was shooting a film called Bookworm where I played his daughter.
That's right.
Right after I got the call, I was going out for dinner with him.
And I wasn't really allowed to tell him, but I did.
So, just don't tell Netflix.
What is it like playing one of TV's most notorious villains?
And do you ever feel that Vekna is misunderstood?
If it is one of TV's most notorious villains, then I think it's just that feeling of like,
thank God.
Thank God it's work.
And do you ever feel that he's misunderstood?
I think as an actor, you have to be in love with the characters that you're playing.
Yeah, you have to believe that if they're bad, they're misunderstood.
Because if you don't like them, you can't portray them.
Who is someone you admired or made a surprising connection with on set?
I think it was you.
Oh, Nell.
That's so sweet.
I didn't really expect to make a connection with Vekna.
No one does.
That's why he's so terrifying.
When we came out for a week in December 2023 to do the table reads and costume fittings,
I think that really started what became a really good friendship.
Oh, Nell, that is so nice.
That's really sweet of you to say.
I remember meeting your dad and just asking if it was alright if we met.
And yeah, that is such a lovely thing to say.
Because I was so nervous at that read-through as well.
Oh my God, I thought I was going to pass out.
It was like long black table, black room, microphones in front of us, camera crews filming everything.
It was so intimidating.
Really intimidating.
And then afterwards I heard that sometimes people get fired at table reads.
Who believed in you before anyone else did?
That's a really nice question.
Certainly my mum and dad to begin with.
They were so supportive of me.
And I was the kid who would always put on shows in our living room for our parents.
Dressing up all the time, you know, with my best friend.
Yeah, right, exactly.
They encouraged me to join my local youth theatre, Petersfield Youth Theatre.
What is your proudest on-set moment so far?
It was my first day and I was surrounded by all these people who I'd watched for years.
And I managed not to run away.
Which, yeah, I was pretty proud of.
I was really afraid when season four was coming out that Vechner wasn't going to work.
And I was like, oh my God, this is so scary.
That I actually left the premiere for season four.
I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, I ran away.
Yeah, exactly.
It was really, it was a lot.
What for you is scarier?
The upside down or leaking a Stranger Things spoiler?
I think it has to be leaking a Stranger Things spoiler.
It has to be leaking.
Even when I would get people taking photos, I would feel responsible.
Like, people would be like, oh, Nell Fisher on the set of Stranger Things.
And I'd be like, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it.
I'm just here to vibe, I'm just here to vibe out.
Which other actor have you learnt the most from?
I would say Sadie.
I mean, she's completely incredible.
I actually met her for the first time when I was doing a final round audition in New York.
And we just hit it off from the get-go.
I'd never been before, so we were doing all the touristy things.
That's so cool.
Yeah, it was really fun.
That's so sick.
Good for you.
What was it like working with your on-screen family?
That would be Cara and Natalia and Finn.
Sorry, what happened to Joe Crest, who plays Ted?
Everyone always forgets about Ted.
It's tragic.
He is the glue of this show.
But no, jokes aside, I spent lots of time with Cara when we were filming the Demogorgon sequence,
which was amazing.
And yeah, Natalia is completely gorgeous.
And yeah, I love meeting Finn and working with all of them.
Describe my perfect day in Hawkins.
Well, everything's burnt.
What's one piece of advice you would have for me?
Watch.
Yeah.
Soak as much of it in as possible.
There is a lot to be...
Vecna?
There's a lot to be learnt.
And so, yeah, just absorb.
Become a sponge.
Human sponge.
Become a human sponge.
That's my advice for you.
How did you tackle some of the heavier scenes in this season?
I think for scenes where I would have to cry and everything else just wasn't working,
I would listen to Bright Horses by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds,
which is just the most heartbreaking song.
Yeah, it would just get me in floods of tears.
Nell Fisher, good taste in music.
You heard it here first.
Who is the most surprising celebrity fan of Stranger Things you've met over the years?
Do you have one?
No, not really.
I mean, I've only just come here.
I've literally just got here.
Literally just got here, Jamie.
When you look back at this role that you've played in ten years' time,
what do you think it's going to mean to you?
Even ten years on, I'll always just remember working with such an amazing bunch of people.
Oh, cheers.
I mean, it has fundamentally changed my life.
No doubt about that.
Yeah.
It will just be one of those things that I just look back on with fondness and with gratitude.
That was fun.
Nice one.
Shall we get our pictures?
Yeah.
That's so cute.
Do you want to keep yours?
I'm going to keep mine.
You put yours up there.
Copy.
Understood.
Come on, Nell.
Let's hit my hand on the door again.
Ow!
Get out!
