Teen Girl Rebuilds Car from Scratch

Kathryn DiMaria, a 14-year-old mechanical enthusiast, bought and restored a 1986 Pontiac Fiero at age 12 using $450 from babysitting, self-teaching skills like welding, grinding, upholstery, sandblasting, and engine rebuilding, challenging gender stereotypes in automotive work. With help from her dad Jerry and uncle Bob, the project gained thousands of online followers, earning her an invitation to the 2013 Detroit Auto Show to meet female engineers from GM's original Fiero team and inspiring more women in engineering
