Welcome to my new Garden :) we're finally able to get the garden ready for growing season :)
#gardening #gardeningtips #garden
Today, we're going from this to this. Hey everybody,
welcome back to my YouTube channel and welcome to my new garden. Well,
technically it's not a new garden,
but my fence is finally done. And honestly,
the fence makes the garden feel like a whole different space.
So it feels like I've got a new garden and I'm really,
really excited to finally get it set up for spring. Now, of course,
a garden is an ongoing project. It's never going to end,
but hopefully by the end of this video,
we've got a really beautiful garden set up specifically finalized a wall of
aeroids set up, looked at the garden beds,
put my furniture back in here and also have another look at the greenhouse.
And I want to take another lot of plants from the inside,
put them outside because they'll be growing out here over the next eight months
or so now that the conditions are much more consistent.
I think there's one day where it goes back down to 12 degrees at night,
sometime next week,
but the daytime temperatures are now consistently between 20 and 25 and the
nighttime temperatures are more like, you know, 15 plus and so on. So, you know,
we might have one more little coldish blast.
But I'm pretty confident that the conditions out here will be good enough going
forward for my plants to have a good time. So lots happening today.
I really want to take you along. And while I do that,
I also want to talk to you about life updates. I had a workshop last week.
So I want to kind of fill you in on that.
I'm running another workshop next month.
I have a bit more information to share about Charleston for
you guys as well. When I'm coming to the US next April. Yeah, overall,
I'm sure we'll find plenty to talk about. So let's get started.
Let's do it. Yes, yes, yes. Let's go.
Alrighty. First things first,
let's focus on the garden beds because they've obviously suffered quite a lot as
a result of the old fence being ripped out and then the new fence being built.
So let me bring you a bit closer. And we do it in two iterations.
The garden bed over there is terrible.
I'm not so worried about that one today.
I really would just want to make sure I do the garden bed over here where the
tiled area is because I really want to get this tiled area cleaned today as
well. Um, before I put everything back.
So I just figured looking at the garden bed is probably going to create more
mess. So no point in cleaning first. So let's have a look at that.
And I'll take you closer with my phone. Alrighty.
So there was a bit of damage done by, you know,
the fence being removed, but that's okay.
This collocator should bounce back pretty quickly.
Look at here, the Maranta. There's no new growth just yet.
You can see a lot of debris.
You'll see a lot of just sticks from the brushwood fencing everywhere.
Yeah. So I'll probably have to chop everything back.
I'll just chop everything back and let it regrow.
I think it's a good time of the year to do that. Uh, like this one,
you know, yeah.
Yeah. See these sort of sticks everywhere.
Those are from the old fence and then over here,
this is not looking too good to be honest.
Actually this whole thing is looking really dead. Um,
but it is what it is. This one is just a bit,
we need to work on this because it's kind of leaning forward a lot,
but see all of the new growth points that it already activated since we chopped
it off. Um, yeah,
I think overall just cleaning a little bit, chopping things back.
This one doesn't look all too good, but I'm sure we'll come back,
top up the garden bed a bit. Uh, let's do that.
Don't think it's going to take all too long.
Just make it look a little bit neater, uh,
and give it capacity to grow back.
Okay. So what's happening here? Oh my God. It's so laggy.
I could propagate this, but I could also not do that. Um,
and I probably won't because I have lots of those.
This one I might actually propagate. Yes.
I think that will be good to propagate and put in Tim's garden.
I'll leave some of the debris here because that's obviously not bad for the
garden. It's just going to decompose.
I suppose I'll just have to wait a couple of weeks to see what wants to
reshoot.
And then I might be in a better position to see if I want to put new things out
here or not.
Sometimes I have these bottom parts that are planted in here.
Now this fence is actually coming out a little bit more than before.
So they were all kind of leaning forward. So I'll just reposition them.
I'll just add a bit of fresh substrate over here. Oh,
by fresh substrate. I don't mean actually fresh, fresh substrate.
This is now when I repot my indoor plants and I have spare air void mix.
That's that spare air void mix.
So I just give everything a little top up. So it's kind of like an
even level.
All right. It's looking nice and clean, obviously looking empty,
but keep in mind we're also just coming out of winter or like beginning of
spring.
So we need to give the garden a little bit of time to bounce back.
But usually bounces back quite quickly. You know, it's about growing,
not having, but it's time to bring the gurney out.
Can't wait for that. But you guys aren't dealing too well with water.
So let me get you into safety.
If you're wondering why I walk so silly,
I dropped the table on my foot earlier today and it's kind of getting worse
over time. Anyway, I iced it a little bit is what it is.
Now it didn't come out really well, to be honest.
But I feel like I'm going through this every time I do this. I mean,
it obviously gets much nicer once it dries a little bit,
but this patch over here, for example,
the tiles have a completely different texture as well.
So I don't think this will ever even get clean.
And yeah, a few spots just never really gotten clean. Every time I do it,
I suppose if I would want to clean this a little bit more,
I would probably have to use some sort of chemical instead of just
water. Um, but I think this is good enough for me, you know,
I would love for it to dry fully before I keep moving,
but we've got things to do and I want to wrap up in about two hours.
My foot is in pain. I just want to get it over and done with.
Everything is a mess. So let's just keep going.
I'll start putting things back. And while I do that,
let's talk a little bit.
That's the table and it fell right on here, like on the vein as well.
Anyway, worse things have happened.
So last week I ran my first workshop
and it was so much fun. I mean,
I prepared for this workshop for like three or four days
just to make sure I'm prepared. And I was actually so worried
that I won't have enough to say it was a two and a half hour workshop.
So quite lengthy, but guess what? I said plenty.
I went over time.
Who would have thought,
obviously I can't speak for all of the attendees,
but from what I've heard and what people have
said online and messaged me on the back of it, everybody had a really,
really good time. This one is going to be a pain to move.
Oh, glad I scraped this across here.
It's going to come off easily. I actually
wanted to show you something. You need to come closer for that.
Have a look at those roots.
Sorry. I can't really lift it. It's so tall.
I'll just bang into everything. Anyway,
I tried to lift it out of this white pot earlier and there's roots this thick.
It was also sold out. So I sold the maximum amount of tickets,
which is, I think we, it was technically supposed to be 25,
but then a few people messaged me. So we actually ended up having 28 people,
which I think is just the more,
it's the perfect amount for the space that we had over there.
I think more people would get a little bit too cramped potentially.
Plus with this workshop,
there was like a physical component as well where we actually all repotting a
plant and so on. And then, you know,
it gets really messy with so many people in such a small spot.
Everybody's just sitting down and it's more of a masterclass like me downloading
on people. We could probably fit more,
but because I also want people to network, interact with each other and so on,
other than just me talking for two and a half hours,
I thought we'll keep it a little bit smaller. So that was really,
really fun and I had no need to be nervous.
So we have already planning the second workshop and that second workshop is
going to be more Mosspole specific.
So it's going to be the ultimate Mosspole workshop and that's
going to be at the end of October.
And I'll leave more details in the description down below in case you're in
Sydney and you want to join. So really good. And I suppose, you know,
I'll get better and better with every workshop. So the more workshops I run,
the less time I'll have to spend preparing.
So it will be more worthwhile, I suppose, my time.
And the more often I'll do it, the more comfortable I feel about it as well.
Should we check the fruits on this? I can't see it.
Oh, oh, oh. Wow. Okay.
I don't think you saw it. It's too heavy.
I'll show you next time. But trust me, very good.
Very good. Alrighty.
I'm just glad it wasn't this table that fell on me.
That would have been significantly worse.
So anyway, I really enjoyed the workshop.
They got me thinking maybe I should do a bit of a workshop when I'm in America
as well. So in case you haven't heard the news,
I'll be in America for the Big Plant Expo in Charleston,
South Carolina. It's on the 25th and 26th of April.
And I've got tickets with a discount code linked in the description as well.
And everybody who purchases a ticket using my discount code also gets a chance
to win a one hour online plant consultation with me.
Picking the winner for the consultation at the end of January.
So make sure you get your tickets in early. Don't wait last minute.
Otherwise you won't be entering the draw for the giveaway. But yeah,
I'll be there. So is the Bearded Plantaholic and Kaylee Allen.
So the three of us are like the headline plant fluences,
which is kind of a weird thing to say, but it's crazy thinking about it.
I started this hobby watching a lot of Kaylee Allen's content.
And then now it's crazy to think that, um, you know,
we're both invited to go there. Like it's, it's,
it's pretty cool to think about that. Um, so yeah, anyway,
I'll be there. And while I'm there,
I would love for you guys to get as much value out of it as possible. Right?
So I'm trying to find sponsors that want to sponsor the
masterclass. So the masterclass is free to attend,
but I'm still getting rewarded for my efforts, right?
Got to be a little more business savvy this year. Remember? So yeah,
I think that would be a cool thing and I'll keep you updated. But yeah,
that's basically the goal.
I would love for people to be able to join a little one hour masterclass.
It's going to be more of a download, right? Because if I go to America,
I don't have all of my materials there.
I don't know all of the materials in America.
I don't have my like grow vertical growing grounds and so on.
And it can help me out with it. Plus it's from a logistical perspective,
even for this workshop over here, that was the hardest part,
organizing the plants, organizing the goodie bags, having everything.
And that's also the costly part, right? Um,
so I figured if it's just more of a download,
so just me talking rather than us repotting together,
then it is going to be much more cost-effective,
which means the likeliness of this just being included in the general admission
ticket is much higher. So yeah.
And then I thought maybe we can just do like a one hour one so I can run
multiple ones so that everybody can join who wants to anyway,
let me know in the comments down below if that's something that you would love
me to do.
And then I can take your comments and use them as leverage when
I talk to brands to potentially sponsor those masterclasses. But yeah,
even if the masterclass doesn't go ahead,
I'll be there all of Saturday and Sunday.
I think there is like specific times for meet and greet and like a VIP package
where you get like exclusive access.
But even if you just get the general admission,
I'll definitely be roaming around and so on.
So hopefully I'll meet as many of you as possible. Sorry.
I was just resting my foot a little bit. It's kind of nice getting a little break.
Okay. One moment. Okay. It's been avoiding it.
Oh, look at this. What a perfect fit.
And I'm so glad I do have the fence now. I mean,
it took five times as long as expected,
which is obviously a little bit annoying,
but I think this fence is so much nicer than the one I've had before.
And a lot of you guys in the comment section acknowledged that as well.
I think the greens in front of this gray charcoal
background, stunning. Look, new leaf.
Spring. So I think for now,
I'm trying to keep this one empty because I might put this bird of paradise here.
I don't know yet. I'll just pop them all on there first.
And then we'll see how we go. Okay.
I actually wanted to add more plants to the wall of aeroids,
but I'm out of hooks. So I do need to have more of these big hooks.
They're working quite well. Um, Oh, actually there's one more here.
Oh,
Okay.
So we're not getting this full satisfying wall of aeroid
transformation today after all. Um,
that's just because I ran out of hooks and it is quite a windy day.
So I don't necessarily want to bring plants out here and then have them fly
around, uh,
kind of would defeat the purpose of me overwintering them indoors to then
just induce a whole lot of damage as soon as we put the, put it back out here.
I think it still looks good.
Now one consideration is to put the bird of paradise
here at some stage, probably also not today.
What I really want to look at is this garden bed behind us over there.
Cause that's carnage. I'm not too sure if you can see this,
but basically over here,
everything is really, really messy. Now,
I think I could also
clean this up a little bit.
I don't like when they hang on the floor like that.
Plus this plant is so root bound.
Me chopping off old leaves actually just enables the plant to grow a new one
because it can only hold onto so many leaves at a time.
So technically nothing wrong, wrong with this leaf,
but I'm happy to sacrifice it.
Same goes for this leaf over here. I think it's just a bit ugly.
This time of the year, new leaves should be plentiful.
So I'm just making room
for new ones. Now over here,
I'm getting my Canna Stuttgart out of dormancy.
This is actually really annoying and the banana is doing really well
as well. I'm growing more consistently now, right?
So that's really good.
And eventually there will be so much direct sun coming into the greenhouse that
it's good to have these kind of shaded a little bit.
Now let's have a look at the real carnage over here and I'll bring you closer
with my phone. Yeah.
So this used to be lots of allocations. I didn't take them out.
They just got trampled on like crazy.
Yeah. Look, this used to be something.
This Monstera completely trampled on,
completely trampled on, completely trampled on.
So no, they weren't all too careful with my plants, to be honest.
Oh, mother.
Oh, I just dropped the horse on my little Bruce over here. Oh,
okay. We need to wrap up this day. This is not my day.
I also just noticed that a few over here, a bit ugly. Oh my God.
Should probably bring my bigger scissors.
Welcome to my new garden. Ow, ow, ow,
ow. Oh my God. Now, to be honest,
I am not sure if I'm going to do anything with this garden bed or if I'm just
going to leave it kind of empty.
I think the best I can do is just see what naturally
wants to reshoot.
And the other thing is Tim has a lot of plants in
his garden and they're absolutely shooting the lights out,
which means that we'll have to do a big cuddle in Tim's garden soon
for sure. Um,
and then maybe some of the plants that we cull in his garden can make that
journey into mine instead. Also,
a lot of these allocations might just reshoot, right?
There might just be dormant.
Some physical damage was induced over here,
but there should have little rhizomes still.
Now it's going to look quite empty,
but that's why I'm hoping that the Canna Stuttgart here is gonna grow quite
fast. So it hides this empty ugly corner.
Plus I actually have all of these water propagations here.
I'll give them another couple of weeks because it's only been a month. Uh,
and then maybe I can pop them here, but I'm not in a rush to do that.
I just wanted to clean up all of the ugly.
Okay. Let's get all of the green waste out of there. Good enough for today.
While I'm here and got the gurney out,
might as well give at least the outside of the greenhouse a little clean as
well. Cause it's filthy.
Smart move to maybe close the windows first.
Why is it so overcast now? Um, I just put the cushions out.
It's not supposed to rain till next week, Tuesday.
So we'll stick with it as it is hoping for the best.
So many blooms. It smells amazing,
but it's going to be so messy over here.
And this tree is really filling in three more
things to do, providing nutrients, providing water,
and then showing you everything. I have some worm castings granulates over here.
I'll just sprinkle them over the garden beds and in any pots so that my
plants have plenty of nutrients for the
upcoming growing season or well, it's kind of the ongoing growing season by now,
right?
Especially the ones that are quite root bound because obviously there wouldn't
be much medium left in these pots anymore,
but the worm castings gonna add some water retention,
but most importantly, they're going to add some nutrients.
I think the bird of paradise needs more, huh? It's a big plant.
The banana, the banana will definitely love this,
especially this garden bed over here has suffered.
So the least we can do is provide some nutrients.
I'll put some in my plants in the greenhouse as well. Beauty.
Now it looks a bit overcast. I'm still confident it's not going to rain,
but I still want to water because it is quite dry.
It is 43% humidity.
Yesterday was like 30% humidity and so on. So it's been quite dry.
So everything has been drying out. Um,
and it was really, really sunny yesterday and the day before as well.
So things are quite dry. So I think it's a good idea to water.
Wow. I've been going at it for five hours now,
but I think I've gotten a lot done. I'm really, really happy.
I finally got to gurney the tiles as well as the greenhouse.
I'm just so looking forward to waking up tomorrow morning and getting to work.
Knowing that nobody's coming to my garden to build something or wondering if
somebody's coming to my garden to continue. The garden is mine again.
Nobody's coming here to mess with it.
I finally get to live out my spring fantasy. So yeah,
I'm really, really excited.
The growing season can finally begin about a month delayed,
but better late than never.
Now there's going to be lots and lots of projects coming in this garden over the
next couple of months.
And I'm really looking forward to taking you along on as many of those as
possible. I'm excited to spend a lot of time out here.
I'm sure Brett is excited to spend a bit of time out here as well. Um,
I kept him inside today because he was really naughty and jumped into my
neighbor's garden earlier today and just sat there and teased me.
He came back eventually, but I just hide it.
I need to leave in about 20 minutes as well.
And I don't want Brett to be nowhere to be found while I want to leave.
So anyway, he's chilling inside, but over the next couple of months,
we'll spend lots and lots of time out here and we've got some really good
weather forecast coming up as well.
So I'm excited to get a bit of exercise in here,
maybe socialize a little bit. You know,
I make use of the nice couch and someone I haven't been using this in months now.
So anyway, I'm really excited. I'm so, so happy. I finally got this done.
The only thing that we didn't get to do today is take a few more of the plants
inside and distribute them across the various parts of
my garden, but we still definitely have space.
I've got space on this wall over here.
I've got space on this wall over here and I've got space in the greenhouse as
well.
So I'd rather do it on a day where I can be a little bit more deliberate with my
decisions so that it also looks as good as possible.
I do need to buy a few more hooks so they don't go flying.
And then maybe I'll do that on another day and actually enjoy it rather than
rush through it as I would right now.
I think I've accomplished plenty today and I'm really,
really enjoying the new look of my garden or the look of my new garden.
However you want to say it. A bit of both.
I do really think that the furniture is a good match with the fence,
which wasn't deliberate. Um, so yeah,
I feel like everything is kind of working and that's exciting,
but you probably want to have a closer look.
So I'll bring you closer with my phone, just a quick browse.
So you see everything and then it's definitely time to say goodbye. All right.
This is the garden when you first walk out. Oh my God, it's getting so windy.
So here you've got the wall of aeroids.
I suppose the plants themselves haven't changed much. They still suffer.
They still look like they suffered from winter,
but I think the contrast of the greens with the gray is just looking so good.
Over here. Um, I think,
and I have a couple of cacti parked somewhere over there as well, um,
that I'm going to bring back here. Then over here,
way more privacy in this garden.
You can also see because the fence is higher actually have much more room.
So I put one plant up there for example, but this one isn't really filling in.
I think this whole plant is dead.
So maybe I can put a few more things hanging on the fence behind it.
Maybe just hang a few spare poles or something like that.
Then this corner is looking a little bit empty for now.
It's also actually really annoying that I've got this one fence over there.
That's Wusenberg place that has always been there, but it's not my fence.
It's the neighbor's fence. That's by the way, also the neighbor that complained.
Thanks for nothing. He literally complained about this fence,
but not this neighbor there, the neighbor over there.
So the one that only gets to see the site that was not good enough for him.
Anyway, once the banana and the Kanastutgat fill in,
I reckon this corner is going to look a little bit less empty,
but maybe a consideration to also hang a few poles over there.
So it fills in a bit, but I think here,
and that's you guys now you can really see the vision with the tiles as well.
I think the tiles matching the fence over here,
matching the furniture, matching the tiles over here.
I think that now works.
The only thing that doesn't work is the inside of the greenhouse.
Yeah. Greenhouse isn't looking all too good, but I mean,
I only got this ready maybe a week ago, maybe two weeks ago.
So I haven't had much growth in here, obviously,
but hopefully over the next couple of months, things are exploding.
And on this fence, I also have a bit of room.
I put my bromeliad display here, which I think looks really good.
And a few things over here.
Editing Jan here.
I just wanted to show you what it looks like in the sun because it looks so
beautiful. I think yesterday,
the overcast weather just didn't do it justice.
Look at this. Oh,
I am just so happy.
Overall, really,
really happy with the first iteration of my new garden.
And I'm sure over the course of the next few months,
as we're progressing through the growing season,
as plants are growing, being chopped down and so on,
I will rearrange frequently.
It's one of the parts about gardening that I enjoy the most,
taking all of the puzzle pieces and putting them together to look as good as
possible. That is what I grow all of these plants for in the first place.
So for the 700th time,
I'm going to let you know that I'm really excited for the upcoming growing
season. And I can't wait to take you along. Thanks for watching.
If you watch all the way, leave a, what are we leaving today?
Leave a cleaning emoji, a sponge, whatever, whatever you use to clean,
leave that in the comment section down below, give the video a thumbs up,
subscribe to my channel if you haven't already,
and hopefully I'll see you in my next video. Bye.
