Restoration of the painting "The Assassination of Archimedes"

Julian Baumgartner of the Baumgartner Art Restoration Workshop in Chicago restored the painting "The Assassination of Archimedes." Covered in dark varnish and glued to a wooden board, the artwork was cleaned and removed from the board using a combination of modern and traditional techniques. Julian slowly peeled the board from the fragile painting using a magnifying glass, a hand plane, and a scalpel; the paper was then preserved intact by an acid-free backing (using archival adhesive). By employing techniques and materials suitable for archival and removable materials, Baumgartner ensured the painting would be preserved in its original state for generations to come.
***Note: I mistakenly thought this painting was "The Assassination of Aristotle," while Archimedes is the poor old man whose head is about to be severed from his neck.***
