Backstage at Capital's Summertime Ball with Barclaycard, Mariah Carey takes part in a game called 'Bored Now!' She reveals that she doesn't believe in the concept of time, and that she doesn't celebrate her birthday!
After quoting lines from her favourite film, 'Mean Girls', she gives us an insight into her Summertime Ball performance and how she is feeling in the build up to performing alongside artists like Will Smith, who she has known from the age of 16!
We're calling this game Bored Now.
Bored Now.
OK, because you get asked a lot of questions.
You've been in a million and one interviews.
We get it.
Sometimes you're just thinking, wrap it up, move it along.
So rather than you have to have that as an inner thought,
we're going to let you have it as an external thought.
If you're bored of our topic, you just whack that button
and we'll move it on.
OK. OK.
Sounds good.
Simple as that.
Can we have your best practice?
Bored Now.
Brilliant.
Your new single is called Tight Dangerous,
but what is the most dangerous thing you've ever done?
Hmm.
I don't know.
Some of the roller coasters I've been on.
I guess they're dangerous.
They're pretty dangerous.
Yeah.
You're not supposed to feel that way because it's fun and exciting.
Yeah.
Who's more dangerous, a motorcycle man or a computer boy toy?
I think the motorcycle man.
Yeah, I think so.
OK, rather than type dangerous,
we're going to talk about dangerous typing.
Have you ever accidentally sent a text message
to the wrong person?
Um, have I?
If I have, I don't remember it, so it didn't happen.
Good, I love that.
We're carrying on.
Next topic.
Next topic, barbecues.
Oh, here we go.
Right, Mariah, do you prefer a charcoal or a gas barbecue?
Charcoal.
Oh, really?
Yes, it's better.
Keeping it real.
That's the right answer, by the way, Mariah.
You should not press the buzzer.
Would you say it's all about the marinade?
Well, if you have the charcoal,
that's another element that's giving you your flavour there.
So you have the marinade and the charcoal, you're going to do well.
OK.
Mariah Carey, this is extraordinary.
He loves barbecues.
Oh, you do?
Yeah.
I've got six.
Oh, OK.
Are you more of a burger or hot dog kind of gal?
Heels, quick, heels.
Oh, here we go.
You're known for your love of a good heel.
In fact, you've said before that you think heels are for every occasion.
Is there any situation where you would wear a flat shoe?
Oh, well, I've been wearing a lot of slippers at home,
but I don't really want to go out in slippers.
I think my thing with the heels
is that they make your whole posture look better,
but I'm getting, like, ugh with the heels.
Like, it's a lot, because your feet hurt,
but I'm just, I'm used to it now.
They look good, but they're so painful.
They're so painful, especially if you're in them for a long time.
Yes, I've been in mine all day.
They are swollen.
I don't even dare take the boot off.
I know how you feel.
I really know how you feel.
It's just great.
And as a short king at weddings, when everyone's in heels,
they're just, everyone's too tall.
We're short guys, so girls wear heels.
Please do admit it, Jordan.
Is it true you climbed the Great Wall of China in heels?
Not the whole thing.
What?
But you did some of it.
I was there in a pair of shoes, and then Drew Barrymore,
I went on her show, and she gave me sneakers with heels.
So she was like, you need this.
OK, say you got offered one of those rides to space
that are all the rage right now.
Would you do it in heels?
Yes.
Of course you would.
Where do you stand on a kitten heel?
I don't love a kitten heel.
I don't.
Like, what's the point of having a heel on?
You might as well have, like, something flat
if you're going to be a heel that small.
What is a kitten heel?
It's pathetic.
They're like a tiny heel.
I've never liked them either.
You're either in a heel, or you're not.
Right.
OK, next topic.
Soccer.
Oh, here we go.
Oh.
Football.
Yeah.
We're at Wembley Stadium, the home of the England football team.
Are you much of a football fan?
Bored now.
OK.
Next topic.
The lambs.
Yes.
Your fans are called your lambs.
Where does that name come from?
I can't even remember this story.
I'll be a lamb.
Would you be a lamb and take my luggage up to my room for me?
And this guy was, like, her boss.
So that's where the lamb thing, be a lamb, came from.
And then my fans just started using it as calling themselves lambs.
So I never just labelled people as lambs.
That's just what happened.
I always wondered that.
That's a cute back story, though.
I actually really like that.
OK, sticking with lambs and fans,
have you ever given a fan any constructive feedback
on maybe the sign that they've made for you
or merchandise they've maybe tried to give you?
No, my fans slash lambs are the best.
They do everything right and I love them.
Great.
Have you ever received a gift from your fans slash lambs
that you still use or have today?
A lot of, you know, they'll draw me beautiful notes
or cards or things like that.
It's just so sweet.
That's really nice.
I don't think Mariah's ever going to get bored of talking about her lambs.
Lighting.
We've read that there's such a thing as Mariah lighting,
but what is Mariah lighting?
Are we currently sat amongst it?
We are kind of in my lighting.
Let's see.
Amazing.
Yeah, we're in Mariah lighting.
OK.
What is your opinion, please, Mariah Carey, on fluorescent lighting?
Hideous.
OK.
It is the worst.
It's the worst.
Why do they do it to us?
Why?
And why is there spotlights above?
That is the worst.
That is awful.
Girl, I am with you there.
So am I.
And I'm going to really stand up for you because people always comment
that you have this lighting.
And I said earlier, I said, I bet she got burnt once
and was like, I'm never being shot again.
More than once.
Like, this hideous lighting follows me around.
I can't take it.
But we back you.
So, OK, what other lights can we approve?
Do you like a disco light?
That's not a key light.
You have to have a key light with a beautiful amber gel.
Oh, OK, nice.
Mean Girls.
Oh, yeah, you love Mean Girls, we've heard.
I do love Mean Girls.
How often do you watch the film?
I haven't watched it in a while, but I do love it.
Yeah.
What's your absolute favourite Mean Girls quote?
So many.
Hmm, what is my favourite?
Yeah, I'm going to call you Catty.
Air fryers.
You want to talk to Mariah Carey about air fryers?
I want to talk to Mariah Carey about Christmas.
Oh, no.
OK, OK.
Christmas.
All right, OK.
So we can't talk about Christmas till November, is that correct?
Yes.
OK, good.
OK.
Why good?
You don't like talking about Christmas?
Yeah, I agree.
I think the end of November.
The end of November is a good...
And then it's Christmas.
Yes.
That's the time.
This is a huge ask, Mariah.
Prank them?
I don't think I can do that.
Mariah, just imagine.
It's like 27 degrees out there.
I know, but some people still like that song, even in the summer.
They do, they're going to be chanting for it.
Can we not persuade you to do it today?
Can you imagine?
Not today.
End November.
OK.
We asked, Mariah, is it true you don't acknowledge the passing of time?
That is true.
What do you mean by that?
I just don't believe in it.
Do you mean time zones?
No, no, just time.
Just time.
Time, so no clocks?
No.
No, just not into that?
Yeah, I don't let it go.
Do you celebrate your birthday?
I don't have a birthday, no.
Anniversaries?
Anniversaries, yes.
OK, great.
But if we were to meet up later, how would we know when?
It would just happen.
On Mariah's time.
Yeah, I would have somebody call you and figure it out.
That's fantastic.
That's absolutely brilliant.
We've got to let her go, guys.
It's Mariah Carey.
On that note, Mariah, thank you so much for speaking to us.
Thank you, thank you.
And thank you for coming to Capital's Summertime Bowl.
I'm so happy to be here.
Thank you so much.
Come on, give it up, everyone.
Mariah Carey!
