MOLDOVA
In the quiet south of Moldova, in my abandoned childhood house, I’m learning to bring life back one small ritual at a time. Today, it’s quince jam — the kind my village used to smell like every autumn. Wood smoke drifting through the orchard, old pots simmering, and golden quinces turning slowly into a deep red treasure for winter.

This video is part of my series where I return home to save my childhood house, restore what was lost, and rebuild a little piece of village life. Every episode is another step toward reviving this old place and my memories with it.

🍐 Quince Jam Recipe (Moldovan Village Style)
Ingredients
1 part quince (cleaned and peeled)
½ part sugar (half the weight of the quinces)
½ part water (again, half the weight of the quinces)
Method
Peel the quinces and cut them into small cubes.
(If you prefer a smoother jam, blend them instead.)
Prepare your pot over wood fire — this is important.
Wood fire gives the jam a soft, smoky depth that you simply cannot get on a stove.
Add the sugar and water first.
Let them boil together until they turn into a light syrup.
Add the quinces into the bubbling syrup.
Boil until the water evaporates, the fruit softens, and the colour turns ruby red with a touch of caramel.
Remove from the fire and let the mixture rest for 24 hours.
Bring it back to the fire the next day for about one more hour, stirring gently.
Sterilise your jars, fill them with the hot jam, seal them tightly — and your winter supply is ready.
Every jar is a small piece of the past preserved…
and every episode of this series is a reminder that even abandoned places can bloom again. 🌿
