And two men in Britain were convicted of terrorism after planning what could have been the biggest
ever terror attack on British soil. The two men smuggled guns into the country and planned to
massacre Jews in northern England. NTD's international correspondent Malcolm Hudson has more.
Two men were found guilty on Tuesday of plotting to kill hundreds in an Islamic
state-inspired gun rampage against the Jewish community in Manchester, England.
Investigators say the planned attack demonstrates the resurgent risk posed by the terrorist group.
Police said the hatred that Wilad Sadawi, 38, and Ammar Hussain, 52, had towards the Jewish
community knew no bounds. Had that plan come to fruition, police said it would have resulted in
one of, if not the deadliest terrorist attack in UK history. They sought to bring slaughter
to the innocent, but the outstanding dedication and commitment of our people
ensured that this unequivocally could not happen. Sadawi had arranged for two AK-47 assault rifles,
an automatic pistol, and almost 200 rounds of ammunition to be smuggled into Britain through
the port of Dover. Prosecutors added that Sadawi planned to obtain two more AK-47s,
another pistol, and collect at least 900 rounds. Unbeknown to him, a man known as Farooq he was
trying to get the weapons from was an undercover operative. Police said that meant his plan never
came close to being put into operation. Counter-terrorism police intervened on the
strike day of May 8 last year, with more than 200 officers involved. Sadawi was arrested at
a hotel car park in Bolton where he went to collect some of the firearms, which had been
deactivated. Hossein did not give evidence and barely attended his trial after he angrily shouted
from the dock on the first day, quote, how many babies, in an apparent reference to Israel's war
against Hamas. The two were convicted on a single charge of preparing terrorist acts.
A terrorist attack upon our Jewish friends and neighbours is an attack upon us all and is an
affront to every decent person in our country. The convictions come little more than a week
after a mass shooting at a Jewish Hanukkah celebration on Sydney's Bondi Beach in which
15 people were killed. The site intelligence group said in the wake of Bondi Beach that
Islamic State had encouraged Muslims to take action elsewhere, particularly singling out
Belgium. Britain's head of the domestic spy agency MI5 Ken McCallum said in October that
his service and the police had thwarted 19 late-stage attack plots since the start of 2020
and intervened to counter many hundreds of other terrorism threats. Malcolm Hudson, NTD News, UK.
