The Timberwolves defeated the Bucks, 103-100 tonight in Minnesota. Anthony Edwards finished with a team-high 24 points along with 6 assists and 4 rebounds for the Timberwolves, while Donte DiVincenzo tallied 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the game. Kevin Porter Jr. recorded 24 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. The Timberwolves improve their record to 19-10 with the win, while the Bucks fall to 11-18 for the season.
This Timberwolves have the most used lineup of any lineup in the NBA, 259 minutes for this group.
They've got the fourth best offensive rating. Doc Rivers, head coach of the Bucs, will go with this
starting lineup. Only the third time that he's put Bobby Portis into the starting lineup and he's
there with Myles Turner, so they go a little bigger to match up with the frontcourt
of the Wolves and Randall Ann Gobert. There is Doc Rivers, his third season in Milwaukee,
27th year as a head coach, almost 1,200 wins. In fact, he's too shy of catching George Carl
for sixth on the all-time wins list. No Giannis, no TP. Torian Prince out with neck surgery. Wish
the best for TP, former Timberwolf for a few seasons. Timberwolves, look at those jerseys.
The Prince-inspired City Edition jerseys for the third time this season. Second straight game,
when they don the City Edition purple jerseys. This holiday season game is brought to you by
Sprite. Bucs wearing their City Edition jerseys as well. The cream-colored
tops and bottoms with blue and green trim. They've got Queen City across the front,
representing Milwaukee. The last few losses, the one against Phoenix and then that game against
Memphis, Minnesota had off shooting nights in both of those games and that was the difference
in the game was their effective field goal percentage. Bobby Portis knocks down a catch
and shoot. Rips down the rebound after the Edwards miss straight away. It is Turner down the lane.
Up to Kevin Porter Jr., who drains a three. Just like that, the Bucs are on top six zip.
They are the NBA's best three-point shooting team, 40% as a club. Elbow jumper for Randall,
and he gets the rules on the scoreboard. Well, they shoot a good percentage. Not having Giannis,
obviously impacts them, but not having Kevin Porter Jr. for the majority of the season,
as Portis knocks down another one without their two biggest... And has that three swirl out. Bucs
up top by seven here. Kuzma on a run to the rim, gets the lay-in, and the Bucs playing with some
confidence early. Gobert, seven offensive rebounds the other night. It's been a beast on the boards
at the offensive end the last three weeks now. Soft shot by Dante DiVincenzo, and he gets the
roll. Coming back the other way. Sloppy here to start for Minnesota. Kuzma, good find. A.J. Green
in the corner, automatic. First finish needs a timeout. It is 14-4. Edwards, eighth in the league
in scoring. No, seventh in the league in scoring. Twenty-nine in game. Draws the contact, got the
finish off the glass. Controlled tap by Turner. Kuzma, it's been a struggle for him in Milwaukee.
His cross-court pass picked off. Here's Nas on the move. Randle to the rim. The scoop and the score.
Timberwolves now within five. Rebounds overall for Gobert. I asked Chris Finch about this before
the game. Looking at that box score, there are not a lot of sexy numbers as Edwards drives
into traffic. Wow, got the finish, and he drew the foul. That's breathtaking right there. Porter Jr.,
Gary Harris out there. First year in Milwaukee. Bucs are up by three. Porter Jr.'s been scoring
the ball well. He's only playing in his tenth game. You're probably not shooting enough. Yes.
And it's one of the things at Minnesota is Terrence Shannon Jr. is off to the races here.
He'll step through, get the lay-in. Nice fake to set up Bolz Island, keep it himself, and score it
over Gary Harris. Minnesota and Milwaukee shoot the same exact number of threes as Jericho Sims.
That's something he can do. He is a great athlete. Jumping. Yeah, that's a big-time discrepancy in
that fourth quarter. Did not play the entire opening quarter against the Thunder. They staggered
his minutes. Corner three there for Gary Trent. Bobby Portis, angle three, no. Sims the offensive
rebound. And they cash in on one of those daggers. And Nazarene. Portis is giving some space there,
and he'll take the 15-footer and make it. They played 93 quarters. Rollins against McDaniels.
Elbow pull-up jumper is good, and there was a foul, says J.D. Rawls. Emberwell is now 0-12
from distance. Sims may have gotten away with a walk, but he scores it for two.
Eight and a half to go here in the first half. David Chenzo around the read screen,
shoves Sims out of the way, gets space for that floater. Now the Bucs with a three-on-one
opportunity. Kuzma up ahead. Porter right back to Kuzma, dropping it for Porter Jr.,
who lays it up and in. So he learned from one of the greatest of all time to become
one of the greatest of all time. Saw shots of Giannis Antetokounmpo on the Bucs bench,
and finally, good job, basically mixing in what was essentially about a seven-man rotation,
six and a half for that game. Randall moves on. Portis draws the contact and got the finish
right at the rim for Julius Randall. Miles Turner, handoff to A.J. Green. The lob,
it may have got deflected there. Gobert picks it off. Here's Hyland on the push.
D. Vincenzo, spot up for the three. He's got both three-pointers. The Wolves have
last two have been three-pointers. 9-2 Timberwolves run since the timeout.
Inside, Gobert is open, and he flushes it before Sims can contest.
Nice box now, two for 17 from distance. It makes what Memphis is doing even more
impressive. As Miles Turner does what he does, knocking down three-point shots.
6-0 Bucs run since the technical. He's used his own defense. He's invested Minnesota up in the
past, but Ant's locked in now. They beat Minnesota and promptly went home and lost to Washington.
Turner answers Ant's three with one of his own, which to me speaks to anyone can beat anyone if
you don't play up to your standards. Hyland to three, no. Gobert, putback, yes! And he looks
into it. Minnesota, you know, Bones has done a great job scoring double figures in those
games he's played in. This mouse comes in and knocks down the three. That's what they need
from him. Gobert with the rebound, and nearly threw it away. Edwards controls. Randall,
on a run to the rim. The finish. Porter Jr. pulls up over Nas Reed and hits it.
13 points, five boards. And that was before the homestand started,
but you know what I'm saying. Yeah. The Memphis Grizzlies game, the OKC game.
Porter Jr. to Bobby Portis. 62-48. It's a 14-point Milwaukee lead. That's their largest of the game.
This game has never been tied. The alley-oop, and Rudy able to lay it in over the rim.
And Randall jumps in front of Turner and makes the steal.
Gives it right back. Yep. A.J. Green now a two-on-one. Kevin Porter Jr. two more.
Up to 15. Well, you mentioned the split. Sometimes it's much larger for individual players,
but team-wise, those come in. 38 percent as a club, fourth best. Porter Jr. at it again. 17
points. That Memphis game was not one of them, but every other game has been Minnesota in the
second half. Nas Reed snaps the 6-2 Milwaukee run to begin the third.
Down by 16, their largest comeback this year. 18 points against the Clippers.
Inside, Portis gets free and lays it in. Easy play that time. So Porter Jr. has just been
really hurting Minnesota a number of different ways. Rudy steps up that time and no one covers
from him. Good roll. Edwards against Kuzma. The crossover. Back to the right hand. Now the
reverse spin. The jumper. No. And the rebound. Rudy Gobert's got it along the baseline. Spots
Nas Reed who lays it in. So good. And Minnesota's been able to hold Milwaukee to just one shot here.
They only have six second chance points. They're not a great offensive rebounding team, as we
talked about. Runner for Reed. In off the glass. 42 countries. I one time played one-on-one with
Shumis Marshalonis, and he went up to go drive it on me, and I tried to slap the ball in his
hands. I swiped down so hard, he dislocated two of my fingers. Conley drains a right side.
DiVincenzo. Conley. Now Gobert drops it back. Conley swings it out to DiVincenzo. Extra pass.
Reed in the corner. Three ball short. Now it's the rebound. And the hand to put back.
A baseline follow. It must have been the slightest of kickballs. It was just a glancing blow.
Three ball for DiVincenzo. So Conley didn't get it, but Dante does. And just like that,
we're tied with five minutes to go in the third. It's the first time the Wolves have tied up.
And just snakes his way around the Rudy screen. Five to shoot. DiVincenzo skids to a stop. Pops
over Rollins. The three ball. Off rim. Off window. And in. Here's Nazari. Crosses back over. Gets in
the paint. Runs it up with a left hand. Turned into a perfect line-up to Rudy Gobert. Oh,
just a little too keyed up on that one. Here's Rollins. Answers. That snaps a string for the
Bucs. They had been 0 for 9 with three turnovers. Rollins couldn't get the finish. Comes out to
Bobby Portis. Drains the three. Corners this year. 40 percent. Rollins on a run on Ant.
Got the layup. He's one of those room attackers. Wolves expending a lot of energy to get back in
front, but that only got them. As Ant drives in and lays it in. Only got them up five.
Wolves finish the third quarter on a 25-9 run. Down 16 to getting it tied. They were up by five
at one point. Draining a three is Ryan Rollins. Just one of ten of them. McKeel Alexander Walker
is number one, but Ryan Rollins is right there behind him, number two. Highline clean look at
a three. And gets it. Finally one goes down for bones. Kevin Porter Jr. here in Milwaukee being
I heard Trae Young back on the floor today as I was listening to Steve Homer
call. It's got to be around there. It's well over 30.
T.J. Shannon with a good look and he knocks down a three. I love that T.J. has struggled
inside the arc shooting 40 percent this year as Sims gets the dunk. Nice find by Miles Turner,
but T.J. has hit 40 percent of his pilot throughout the screen. Bones. Thin range jumper is good.
He's hit his last two shots. Rollins to the role as Sims.
Chonko Sims has come off the field. He's able to play two. He gets back to that roller if it's
Rudy Gobert in the game and he's so much bigger than Nas. He's able to stop that shot attempt.
T.J. under duress. Knocks down the three. Come on T.J.
Randall against Harris likes the matchup. Spins baseline. Now double. Good ball movement. Shannon
third three of the quarter. T.J. in four minutes has three threes and the Wolves
17.7 assists for Kevin Porter Jr. Bobby Portis for floater with the right hand. He gets that one to
drop. Conley. Randall. Mike. Yes. Full threes for Mike Conley. Wolves have hit six of their last
seven three-point attempts. They force Kevin Porter Jr. in a turnover. Randall feeds it to
Bones who lays it up and in. Another week or two to get back up to speed. That's right. That just
doesn't happen anymore. Kevin Porter Jr. able to find a seam and get the whole medical staffing.
There's science to it now. Rollins had a fistful of Dante's jersey. Dante just ripped right through
that. He got the lay-in. Five-point game. Four and a half to play. Turner to the rim. A thunderous
slam. Yes, it was. Edwards has not scored here in the fourth quarter. Off the Gobert screen. He'll
pop on a 16-footer. Off glass. He banks it in. On a Sunday night, the bank is open as it was 2.45
to play. Edwards left side three. Count it. He loves that part of the zone, baby. His second
three. You mentioned in the open, but that shot he hit Friday night. Same one we saw last year
on the road in Houston to put the Wolves in front. Big three by Miles Turner there to make
things interesting with 49 seconds left. David Chenzo. Five to shoot. Now to Edwards with three.
He'll take a drive to the rim. He got the uncontested layup. 22 for Edwards. No, make it 20.
Kevin Porter Jr., the offensive rebound. Five seconds to go in the game. Porter Jr. lost it.
Got it back. He'll fire again, and it'll hit with five-tenths of a second left.
Just need to get it in here. Boy, Conley's wide open.
And Randall fires it off of Turner. That was way more eventful than it needed to be.
He hit it off Turner. It went out of bounds. The clock expired. And the Timberwolves
win it 103 to 100. They've snapped the three-game losing streak to the Bucs.
