Hi I'm Noah and I'm Sarah and we're from Mercer's Ballroom Dance Club. Today we're going to be
teaching you a few dance moves that you can use in the various situations such as parties, weddings,
or a random shin dig that you can go to. Today we're going to be teaching you how to do the rumba.
All right so this is a closed position dance so as the lead you're going to have your left hand
out like this and your right hand is going to be along your follow's shoulder blade.
And follow's your right hand is going to go into the lead's left hand and then your left arm
and left hand are going to go along the arm and land on the shoulder. The first step we're going
to teach you is the basic step. Lead's you're going to start with your left leg walking forward
and follow's you're going to start with your right leg going backwards. Next lead's you're
going to use your right leg and step to the side and follow's you're going to use your left leg
and also step to the side. Once you step to the side you're going to bring both legs together.
Then the next step lead's you're going to use your right leg and step backwards and follow's you're
going to use your left leg and step forwards. And this time you're going to use your left leg and
step sideways and your right leg and also step to the side. And finally you're going to put both
legs together once again. So now that we taught you the basic step step by step we're going to
show you what it looks like together. Slow quick quick slow quick quick slow quick quick slow
quick quick and that's the basic. And so now we're going to teach you the underarm turn but for now
we're just going to show it to you and then we will break it down for you. And now we're going
to break it down. Lead's now I'm going to go over your part individually. So it's the same framework
as the basic and the same footing. However your arms are going to be changing a little bit. So
we're going to start off with stepping forward to the side and together like the basic. However
here is where we're going to step backwards and you're going to let go of your right arm and lift
your left arm. Your left arm is then going to have the follow go under it as you come together
and then whenever you step forward your follow is going to be finishing up the turn and as you
step to the side you're going to go back into normal position and close your legs together.
Then you're going to continue the rest of that box to the very end. Same footwork as the basic
however it's just your arms that are changing. And now I'll be teaching the follows part for
the underarm turn. So we're going to start enclosed. We're going to take a step back for slow. We're
going to step together for quick quick. Now here the lead is going to release this shoulder blade
so this arm is free and they're going to raise their right hand. So we're going to be traveling
in a circle underneath this arm for slow quick quick slow quick quick and now we're going to
replace this arm onto the shoulder and we're going to complete the second half of our box
for slow quick quick and then from here we can go straight into another box step.
And now that we have a few steps we're going to show you how to change them up. Slow quick quick
slow quick quick slow quick quick slow quick quick slow quick quick slow quick quick slow
quick quick slow quick quick slow quick quick slow quick quick. And so now that you have those moves
We're going to show you what it looks like with music.
And when you feel more comfortable with it, you can add your own little flair to it.
Thank you so much for watching and we hope you enjoyed learning the rumba.
And so now if you ever see a dance floor, feel free to bust a move.
