A step to side on four, one, cross over with your left foot 90 degrees to your right.
Oh hi dance friends! Welcome back to DanceSport Explained.
If you're new to this channel, my name is Mila and today we're going to learn the eight
most popular Roomba basic steps. But first, if you're not yet subscribed to this channel,
you can do so down below and hit that notification bell.
The basic step of Roomba consists of three parts.
A step to side, a forward break and a back break.
A step to side, a forward break, a step to side, a back break.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three.
I have a four minute long video just on the basic step of Roomba where I cover the footwork,
timing and technique of the basic step. I will link it down below.
The New York and Roomba consists of two parts, a side step and a forward break.
They're connected by a 90 degree change of direction.
A step to side on four, one, take your left foot and cross over with it 90 degrees to your right.
Transfer your weight fully over this leg and it happens on two.
On three, transfer your weight back and on four, one,
bring your leg back in order to take the step to the side on four.
A step to the side on four, one, cross over with your right foot 90 degrees to your left,
fully transferring your weight over this leg on two.
Transfer your weight back on three and bring it back into the side step on four, one.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four.
If you're turning to the right in your New York, you will extend your right arm.
If you're turning to the left, you will extend your left arm.
If you're dancing without a partner, feel free to extend both.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three.
The spot turn can be danced solo for both partners
or the follower can use it to dance the underarm turn.
A step to side on four, one, cross over with your left foot 90 degrees to your right,
keep turning to your right, transferring your weight onto your front leg on three
and back into four, one.
Take a step to the side on four, one, take your left foot and cross over with it
90 degrees to your left, keep turning in that same direction
while transferring your weight back to your front leg on three and back to four, one.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one.
In every spot turn, feel free to extend the same arm as the leg that is going forward on two.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one.
Hand to hand is in a way the opposite of a New York
because instead of crossing over into a forward break on two,
you're going to cross over into a back break on two.
Take a step to the side on four, one, pivot 90 degrees to your left while taking a step back,
fully transferring your weight over that leg and this happens on two.
On three, transfer your weight back over your forward leg
and cross over back into a side step on four, one.
Take a step to the side on four, one, pivot 90 degrees to your right,
taking your leg back, fully transferring your weight onto it on two,
transfer your weight back forward on three and come back into four, one once again.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three.
Just as in a New York, if you're crossing over to the left, you will extend your left arm
and if you're crossing over to your right, you will extend your right arm.
If you're dancing without a partner, feel free to extend both.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three.
The basic in place is simply stepping together to the Roomba rhythm.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one.
An open basic contains a forward step on four, one and a back step on four, one.
They're connected by a forward break on two, three and a back break on two, three.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three.
The alternative basic is similar to the basic step in Roomba.
However, instead of dancing a forward break and a back break on two, three,
you're going to step together on two and together on three.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three.
Progressive walks forward and back can be linked and danced continuously.
Dancing three four ones forward and three four ones backward,
linking them using a forward break on two, three and a back break on two, three.
Four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three,
four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three.
The forward and back Roomba walks are the most commonly used steps in more advanced
Roomba routines. I have very detailed videos on them both and I will link them down below.
Now that we have covered the eight most popular basic Roomba steps,
we can put them together into a simple Roomba routine.
This Roomba routine will be linked down in the description below.
