The Lakers defeated the Suns, 116-114 tonight in Phoenix. Luka Dončić finished with a team-high 29 points along with 6 assists and 3 rebounds for the Lakers, while LeBron James tallied 26 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds in the game. Devin Booker recorded 27 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. The Lakers improve their record to 18-7 with the win, while the Suns fall to 14-12 for the season.
Got some making up to do.
Five point game.
And Brooks has got to be careful here.
Dodgich throwing the hands off of him.
Across the floor now to Smart.
Smart, they jump out on him.
Four on the shot clock.
Be careful of that rip through move.
Dodgich fading back.
Loose ball.
Suns have got it.
Up the floor.
Booker quick pass to Brooks.
Booker to Allen.
Gillespie corner three.
Yes!
Yeah, 12-0 run for the Suns.
Dodgich calls for it.
Brooks again playing with five personal fouls.
Dodgich backing down across the floor.
Skip pass, Smart scoops a pass to James.
James on the drive.
James with a finger roll.
Timeout Phoenix.
Booker leading the Suns with 27.
Head down on the drive, drops it off now to Brooks.
Now they're racing out to any three point shooters.
Allen steps into the lane.
Tied up there by Smart.
And then we'll get a whistle and a foul.
They'll call the foul on Smart.
But at this point, LA's almost willing to give up two
versus the Suns in their three point shooting.
Yeah, it's a penetration.
And I'm sure Smart thought it might
have been a jump ball before.
And he grabs him around the neck.
Allen at the line, 11 to score his table.
28.5 on the game clock.
Suns with one timeout.
Lakers with one timeout.
And so now it's not just about the defense,
but it's if you can force a miss,
you got to get the rebound.
Smart driving.
Blocked away by Dunn.
Pulls for three.
Won't get it.
Offensive rebound, back to Brooks.
Pulls for three.
Brooks and James go on chest to chest.
Now James taking exception.
Suns by one.
And the question becomes.
Played that review for a possible hostile act.
Yep, and this is what I was afraid of, Andy.
They're going to take a look at this and.
Well, as much as we admire Dylan Brooks,
at the end of a game, not to put his team in a position.
And in one time, Mark is smart.
Probably shouldn't be taking the shot, not running time off.
But here we see on the right side,
Dylan Brooks gets the ball with the shot.
And he gets fouled by James.
Nothing is called.
And that's why Dylan reacted the way he did.
Absolutely.
If they roll all the way back, that should.
I mean, and James, he hits them.
He came in with like a.
That's right.
A chop.
And now James playing the victim.
As they come to the other end.
But if they roll the tape all the way back,
and I hope that's the case.
Replay center tonight back at the caucus,
it's Biniyam Maru, Courtney Kortman, and Pat Frayer.
So, but that is why.
How did they miss the follow through?
Well, I think as you're looking at it
from at least one official perspective.
So here, watch for the closeout.
Oh, he gets them.
He's still a shooter.
But he came across with the arm.
That's right.
And he tags him.
So at the time we didn't see it in real time, Annie.
And I was.
Because we were blocked out the way it was.
I was trying to figure why Dylan reacted the way he did.
Now you know.
The replay center has been busy tonight
with this matchup between the Suns and Lakers.
Well, again, give credit to the Suns
as far as not panicking.
Booker gets the nice pass.
He got closed out.
And gets the pass to Dylan Brooks for the three-point shot.
And as you said, he'd been sitting on the bench
kind of stewing.
And boy, it's been his time to shine in this fourth quarter.
The Suns were stuck in mud the entire third quarter.
To start the fourth, they got down by 20.
And here's another look at the closeout.
And you see it right there.
You see the slap.
With the right hand.
Now is it enough for them to say it was caused a foul?
Here's a call from Tyler Ford.
After a review, Brooks makes illegal contact
on sporting contact during the dead ball.
And aggressively approaches James.
It is a technical foul.
He's been ejected from the game
on his second technical foul.
Los Angeles will shoot a free throw.
They called a timeout during that dead ball
and then they will advance the ball.
Wow.
So on the review,
they felt that James' contact was not enough.
Isn't any contact on a shooter enough?
Yes, that's what I thought.
That becomes the question.
So from our point of view,
we can totally understand why Brooks went after James.
Well, that to me is an absolute,
like if you are using video review and replay
as a true tool and we've seen them go back
in challenges and make fouls,
James, perhaps fittingly,
missing the technical free throw.
But that is one that will be discussed for a while.
L.A. ball.
Suns by one.
James will trigger the inbound.
Into the hands of Smart.
That is seven.
Dodges on the drive.
Sidestep.
Nope, he's going to pass it to James.
James hoisting up a three.
Oh, wow.
But they're going to get a foul call.
They will have to do it quickly,
dependent on what James is able to do,
having missed his last technical.
And the Suns have to be diligent on the rebounds.
They're 61% on the season for LeBron James.
Ties it there.
Now looking for the go-ahead.
Lakers had a 20-point lead.
Baseball pass up the floor to Allen.
Step through.
But hold on.
Do we have a foul?
Yeah, it looked like you were hoping for the Suns
that it was a foul on LeBron from behind.
This will be the 42nd and 43rd free throw
of the night for L.A.
Marge just hits the bottom of the iron,
and that'll do it.
Lakers hold off the furious Suns rally.
