New Images Show Person of Interest in Brown University Shooting
Authorities have released fresh images of a person of interest in the deadly shooting at Brown University.
The FBI and Providence Police Department published videos and photos as the manhunt for the suspect continued Monday afternoon.
In a social media post on Dec. 15, the FBI shared three photos of a man dressed in dark clothing and a beanie. Most of his face was covered by a dark mask worn over his mouth.
The FBI said the man is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a stocky build.
"The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the individual," the agency wrote on X.
The Providence Police Department also shared new videos showing the person of interest pacing on a sidewalk near the university.
The shooting happened in an auditorium-style classroom where students in a study group were preparing for an upcoming exam.
Two students were killed in the shooting at the Ivy league university on Dec. 13.
One of the victims has been identified as Ella Cook, vice president of the Brown College Republicans chapter. The other victim has been named as Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an 18-year old student from Uzbekistan majoring in biochemistry and neuroscience
Nine others were wounded in Saturday's shooting.
A man who was previously detained by police was released on Sunday because there was no justification to keep him detained, authorities revealed.
The announcement that the initial person of interest was released marked a setback in the investigation and sparked more concerns about campus safety.
One student visiting Brown University questioned how the armed individual could get into a campus building.
“How someone got away in the middle of the day is, to me, not only heartbreaking but very concerning,” Colin Moussette said. “How they got access to the building is concerning.”
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley told residents that there is an enhanced police presence in the nearby neighborhoods in wake of the shooting.
“As part of the investigation, police are going to businesses and residences to request available camera footage,” Smiley wrote on X.
The mayor also once again asked the public to submit any videos they might have that could help the investigation.
