Is the Yamaha R9 Really The Superior Bike?

What's up guys welcome back to the channel for those of you don't know my name is chris moore and today's video We got a brand hammer new yamaha R9 guys, this is our first time having one of these on the dyno And for those of you who do not know This is yamaha's I guess you would say kind of sort of replacement for the r6 the r6 is no longer made They came out with the r9 Which is let's just say the mt09's cousin This is the one with clothes on it. The mt09 is the naked version And the looks and the appearance of this thing Absolutely sick yamaha killed it with the looks on the new r9. I absolutely love it I'm a big fan of mt09's to start with I really like that three-cylinder engine They make really good torque really good power and they are very fun to ride so This one here Yeah, it's pretty much got the same restrictions as an mt09 If you already have an r9 and you have ridden this thing, you know that first gear lagging second gear lagging a ton They have less power in second gear than they have in first gear We're going to talk more about that later, but let's get into dynoing this thing and seeing what it's got In stock form and when I say stock form, I mean stock ecu with all the restrictions in place Because this one Has a brand new m4 full system That is super super nice got the sound really really good on this thing And it also has a sprint p08 air filter Let's fire it up do our baseline pull. See what kind of numbers we got on our dyno And let's start the tuning process boys So And our baseline numbers come in About the same maybe actually. Yeah, definitely a little bit better than an mt09 113 67 foot pounds of torque You can see how it goes up falls off and it kind of dies So let's get to tuning this thing. See what we can get out of it I'm going to show you the restrictions in the ecu as well And just like that our ecu is being flashed using our woollett tracing tuning software We are about to hook this r9 up now Let me show you a little something on this computer while the other computer is flashing This right here is a stock map and we are in the etv table So that stands for electronic throttle valve. You see we got it in mode one Which is our fastest and we got it in gear one now these numbers up here at the top This is our throttle position sensor. That's what our hand is doing So this is when you go wide open with your hand This is our table that we're running in and then this over here is our rpm table Take a look at this guy. So first gear This is supposed to be our fun gear where we do all our wheelies all our nonsense Check this out. So you go wide open throttle with your hand the bike goes at 4500 41 throttle Let's just scroll down here. We go to 6500 rpms You're getting 63 throttle. So you're pinned but the bike About right there 63 and then you can see how it never really continues to go much higher goes to 85 But then back at 10 one She's shutting back down on you to 81 Now let's just take a look at this. I'm going to highlight a few things We're at 3500 rpms We're at a hundred through let's just go to 60 now. We're going to go to 5000 rpms All right, there's our numbers you see we're in the high 30s To 40 now, we're going to switch her over into second gear and geez Second gear now we're getting less power What? Let's go to third gear boom jumps up to 50 throttle so Long story short why in the world yamaha wanted to neuter second gear so bad. I have no clue But long story short you already got an r9 you already feel that you go from first second third Why would it be that way total nonsense anyways, we're gonna fix all that stuff today We're gonna make first gear come to life second gear come to life third gear. We're making them all come to life Let me show you something else another thing too. You can see in our dyno graph We dyno the thing in the fifth gear. I forgot to show you all this You can see it does finally go a hundred percent throttle in fifth gear About let's see. Where's that at seven thousand rpms stays a hundred percent to ten thousand And then you can see shuts back down again at eighty percent throttle Same thing in six. So that's also limiting and holding back our top speed. We're going to get rid of all that We're going to flash the ecu. We're going to lower the fan temps We're going to do all the good stuff that needs to be done right here today. Watch this Ecu is flashed restrictions are gone. We're going to dial in the fuel run the fuel two After we run this baseline full with the restrictions y'all. Let's see what we got So Two pulls back to back both of them 116 horsepower and 69 foot pounds of torque you can see how our power picks up a little bit everywhere But the biggest thing is it continues to carry out much much farther Let me dial in this fuel. Our air fuel ratio is not horrible already So we're going to dial that in from here and get her perfected So It's safe to say that the yamaha r9 responded very nicely to the tuning Let me show you the before and after numbers here in just a second guys Guys, so we simplified this thing got the dyno sheets where you can see it. We started at 113 We finished at 120 71 foot pounds of torque The gains are very nice All the way as soon as you hit the gas and then you can see at ten thousand one hundred rpms We went from 108 to 119 So super nice gains Mt09 i've done a couple 2025s on the dyno with full exhaust systems I don't think they had m4 exhaust systems, but they only made around 116 117 So that's where i'm calling on you the professionals of youtube Comment in the comments below.
