Beautiful resorts and endless adventures. Welcome to Phu Quoc.
Over the next six days we'll explore everything this island has to offer
from wildlife safaris, thrilling theme parks, to breathtaking sunsets and
delicious local food. Let's explore. Now I know what you're
thinking, this doesn't sound like Vietnam does it?
But with the right expectations it might just be our best island getaway yet.
We chose Phu Quoc mainly for the resort life, kid-friendly attractions and theme
parks and really to enjoy a more spacious
Vietnam and it definitely delivered. Our journey began with a short flight
from Ho Chi Minh City and then a complimentary drive to Vinpearl Resort
and Spa. Before we knew it we arrived in paradise.
Our first impressions, Vinpearl Resort and Spa was grand and well organized.
Our connecting rooms were spacious and perfect for our family stay.
But no time to rest, we hopped onto the shuttle bus to explore our first stop,
Grand World. Dinner by the beach was a great way to start the trip
and of course we had to grab some ice cream before we could explore Grand World
at night. It was a surreal yet captivating
experience with its colorful canal side buildings,
bustling night markets and lively entertainment. It's like a slice of
Venice in Vietnam. Our second day started with an epic
buffet breakfast then was off to one of Phu Quoc's biggest attractions,
Vinpearl Safari. The animal show was actually quite entertaining and the zoo
itself was well maintained with plenty of opportunities to keep
you hydrated and cool along the way. The Vinpearl Safari ride was the main
attraction and it was a cool experience for the kids to encounter the animals in
the wild whilst being enclosed in a bus and lunch
alongside the giraffes was just as memorable.
If you love wildlife this place is worth visiting but if not
you might find it skippable just to avoid the heat.
Next up Vinwonders. Currently Vietnam's largest theme park and pretty much
their version of Disneyland. With six theme zones we were in for a day
of adventure. The biggest turtle shaped aquarium in the world
The Seashell didn't disappoint with its mermaid show.
We had lunch on the second floor and managed to get a semi-detailed view of
the show. We squeezed in a few more rides before
cooling off in Typhoon World. Then it was time for dinner and the
spectacular once show to cap off the night.
We highly recommend getting a spot early to ensure a comfortable
yet fiery view. Our last day at Vinpearl Resort and Spa
was spent by the beach and pool enjoying all the things the resort had to offer
and making the most of the free cocktails before heading on to our next
residence. We started our one hour journey to the
south end with a quick pit stop in the city centre
about halfway down the island for a delicious family lunch.
Then continued our journey and checked into Premier Residence.
Our room, a superior suite with two king beds was just the right size for our
family of four. Before we could even head out to dinner
we couldn't help but join in the phone party.
An unexpected highlight for the family. We cleaned up and headed to Vui Fest,
night market by the sea in Sunset Town. It was lively and full of options for
the family. Even if you're not into eating street
food, the evening lights and performances were worth checking out.
A quick eight minute ride back to our hotel and we were ready to rest up for
another big day. The morning beach walk was peaceful and
even more so with the kids still sleeping.
The breakfast buffet again was top notch although feeling a little bit more
crowded than our Vinpearl stay. We decided to grab a buggy and our 10
minute ride showcases the deserted buildings that we had heard all about.
Entering the football coliseum we were welcomed with chaotic lines to get onto
the world's longest non-stop three rope cable car ride.
As we approached the island we could see the future developments occurring
and at the water park we'd be spending the day at. From lazy rivers to thrilling
slides, it really had everything for all ages.
The only way to get back to the main island was via the cable car
and it was awesome to see all the little islands along the way. The cable car
terminal was much quieter in the afternoon
so if you only want to experience the cable car, best avoid the morning and
just come after lunch. We decided to stay in for the evening
enjoying a quaint beachside dinner by the resort.
I couldn't go past ordering a woodjack and while it was hotel priced it was
still cheaper than our Australian meals. A relaxing morning by the beach was
capped off with a nice surprise when we got back to our room.
We got to explore Sunset Town a little bit more before visiting the Kiss Bridge
as the sun began to set. We enjoyed our last chance for some
So our final thoughts? Well if you love resorts, beaches and
affordable family fun, Phu Quoc is absolutely worth it.
Especially when you're getting both island life, fun attractions for the
family and of course Vietnamese food. But if you prefer
cultural experiences over tourist attractions,
you might find better places in Vietnam to visit. What do you think?
