Located in Helsinki, Finland, the Temppeliaukio Church (Temppeliaukion Kirkko) -- also known as Church of the Rock or Rock Church -- is named so because it was built directly into solid rock. Built by the Suomalainen brothers, architects Timo and Tuomo, the Evangelical Lutheran church first opened in 1969.

The Church of the Rock is one of Helsinki's top tourist destinations, with roughly 500,000 visitors a year. It also serves as a popular concert venue in part due to the excellent acoustics, a result of the rough rock surfaces. The center dome is constructed of copper, and the building is known for its beautiful natural light.
