The Mavericks defeated the Nets, 119-111 tonight in Dallas. Anthony Davis finished with a team-high 24 points along with 14 rebounds and 3 steals for the Mavericks, while Cooper Flagg tallied 22 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds in the game. Michael Porter Jr. recorded 34 points, 6 three pointers and 4 rebounds. The Mavericks improve their record to 10-16 with the win, while the Nets fall to 6-18 for the season.
And he's doing that, guys, while getting healthy.
And Monster Games in wins against Miami, Denver, and Houston.
And off we go at American Airlines Center.
The Mavericks playing an Eastern Conference opponent three times this year,
the first time that's ever happened in the history of the franchise.
And in the last segment before the tipoff,
Michael Porter Jr. learned to move off the ball playing with Nikola Jokic,
and it was on display on the first possession.
I was watching their last game,
and something I've seen that they've made a little bit of a change.
People respect his three-point shooting ability so much.
I could see where the confusion would come in, but yes.
He is averaging over three assists a game,
and he just got fouled on a three and made it.
He's getting plenty of opportunities.
Of course, the youngest player in the NBA is on the floor wearing a Mavericks jersey,
Cooper Flagg.
In the paint, Nick Claxton.
That was a nice finish.
Nembhard glances at the rim, puts it down,
makes a decision to find Cooper Flagg in the corner.
He had a one-bounce dribble and drills the jump shots.
Nicely done.
But everything going in at a high clip over the last five games for Coop.
Twenty-three points a game, 55% from the floor.
Kim Mahler.
Well, they've moved Marshall on to Porter because of the early foul trouble for P.J.,
and Porter scores again.
Cooper operating out front.
Shot on the floor with a jumper, and now he goes to the cover.
And a steal by Davis.
Nembhard is flushing Cooper Flagg.
Great sequence back in the front end for the Mavericks,
from A.D. to P.J. to Coop for the champs.
Caught on the move by Marshall, and there are probes into the paint.
Could be a part of.
Out of the timeout, maybe the type of game.
And Yegor Gilman does that.
Well, it's Gilman with the ball right now,
and smothered by Anthony Davis on the block.
Cross-court pass with an offensive rebound,
and Noah Clowney found Terrence Mann for a three ball.
Let's have a 6-0 run after the timeout.
Nembhard trying to put a stop to that.
Falls to Marshall on the offensive glass.
He'll give it up.
Nice ball movement.
Max Christie, three-pointer.
Yes, sir.
Yeah, man.
Third dime of the game for Ryan Nembhard.
Attacking a closeout.
Here is Porter.
Around A.D. and to the basket.
And this three-point shooting thing has been throughout Michael Porter Jr.'s career,
by the way.
He shot over 40%, and his sixth season was different.
As that little runner drops in for Coop.
Driving into the paint.
Nicely done.
You asked me a question earlier to predict.
Oh, yes.
That's right.
I did.
An off air, another off air.
Oh.
Clackson with the and one.
Mavericks are a 500 team over the last 12 games,
and Brooklyn is close to that after their 0-7 start.
Here's Clowney operating inside.
Clowney touched him when he was out of bounds.
Oh, that's bad.
Wow.
Dwight Powell.
Now here's Porter.
Started by Clay Thompson.
Nine points in the game already for Porter.
Looking for an assist here.
Porter and Coop with a big swat against De'Ron Sharp.
That was old Duke versus North Carolina action right there.
Been determined one early jump shot,
but then everything else riding inside sense,
and he's already in the double-diggers in the game.
I like these highlights where it's a defensive play and an offensive play,
all in the same highlight.
By one dude.
Yeah.
Who's the youngest player in the league.
Even a hit for Clay Thompson.
This is the youngest team in the NBA.
Brooklyn, average age, 24 years, 46 days old.
A little hesitation.
That's right against Sharp.
Way up off the glass.
He went from playing with Magic Johnson to playing in the NBA and did it well.
Clay Thompson for three.
Again.
Clay Thompson knocks down his second three
and Dallas' third here in the first quarter.
Max Christie has one as well.
And Brooklyn hits another three-pointer.
They take a ton of them.
And Dallas running the floor.
Christie makes a whole bunch of threes.
Clay Thompson, one main three, and then a three-point play.
Max Christie.
With Drake Powell and Dayron Sharp.
Danny Wolfe and Wolfe.
Gale and Michigan.
Powell stolen by Wolfe.
There's five seconds for Brooklyn.
And it's Tyrese Martin.
They've got a chance to go in front.
Dyer Williams.
P.J. Washington back in the game after early foul trouble.
Blocks Dayron Sharp on a putback.
Wolfe bluffs the three, sidesteps the closeout, and hits.
Wolfe the ball handler.
Finds Tyrese Martin.
Now Martin on the drive against Clay Thompson.
In the paint.
He scores.
Got his angle.
Finished strong.
Up by five.
Here's Clay Thompson around the defense on the drive.
Mimhard caught it and moved it in one motion.
Found Max Christie to beat the shot clock.
Williams 30% on threes this year.
Career 31% three-point shooter.
Here's a step-back three for Tyrese Martin, and it's in.
Dallas late in the year.
Won at Brooklyn and in the Nets.
Just over a week later, returned the favor here in Dallas.
Runner here by A.D.
After they had lost a home game to Brooklyn.
Big block on the drive by Traore by Christie.
And running the floor.
It's an alley-oop.
Runner that A.D. had here just a little bit ago.
Tyrese Martin flings up a three and hits it.
That's a good-looking shot.
Just a hair short.
Now Claxton driving through the defense.
I think we've got another block here by Max Christie,
and the ball's out of bounds on Brooklyn.
Michael Porter flips up a pass,
and it's caught and jammed home in one motion by Claxton.
The Nets have had some opportunities to retake that lead.
They've missed some chippies.
Here's Clowney attacking again, and this time he scores.
Marshall trying to wedge his way up the baseline.
Finds Powell in the paint.
And just enough room to get it over.
He will run in the offense.
Got it right back for Powell.
Going downhill.
He will rise up and score.
Dillman misses on the runner in the paint.
Powell with the block out of the rebound.
And in the open court.
Here comes Coop.
And two more on the board.
In a commercial format.
On my phone is what Damaris feels is on-brand quality.
Did it have subtitles since it was BBC?
No, it did not have subtitles on BBC America.
Since the calendar turned over to December.
For the year, Porter's averaging almost 26.
Marshall, another downhill drive, and it's in there.
I love that when he just shoves you out of the way with his forearm.
He is at 69% this season.
That is easily the best of Nick Claxton's career
from a free-throw shooting perspective.
Wow.
Michael Porter, Jr. has had a lot of wow moments tonight and as of late.
And there's another one.
M.R. guarded by Mann.
Gives it up to Coop.
They want A.D.
Oh, back to Coop on a really nice finish.
Biggest number and a half for Coop this year.
Did it in the second half against the Pelicans.
In the first half of the game against the Clippers,
there's Terrence Mann drilling a three.
Low clock.
Davis, seven seconds.
Thought about the step back, but draws in the defense.
Leading to an open three.
And a smash down for Max Christie.
Michael Porter, Jr. has had a 20-plus point effort and a half in five games
since the 5th of November, including tonight.
Turnover, Dallas.
Terrence Mann, fast break fast at Brooklyn.
Let's go.
Throw it up ahead to Davis.
He caught it and scored and was fouled.
Almost 20 points a game, six boards, three and a half assists.
On the move, Nick Claxton.
And he scores against Davis.
And Brooklyn has a chance to go in front.
And it's Terrence Mann on the attack again.
Pitches it out.
A three is in there for Noah Clowney.
And Brooklyn does take the lead by two.
Davis has the only point so far in the third quarter for the Mavs.
Brandon Williams has come in.
Looking for three right here, right now.
Max Christie, yes, sir.
The preseason game we did in Fort Worth.
I talked to him last week.
He was a brand ambassador at the World Cup draw
at a party I did last week in Fort Worth.
He played a little college soccer.
He found Marshall.
Swung it to Coote.
Tensions for the rim.
But missed what would have been probably his nastiest dunk of the year.
What a double on the ball for Williams.
Davis went to Max Christie.
And Yegor Yeoman with the steal
and went for the fancy behind the back pass.
No one was ready for it.
A.D. finishes for Coote.
Here's Claxton leading it for four.
Marshall trying to fight through the screen.
He got A.D. closing out.
But it's Michael Porter, Jr., who is so dialed in right now.
Brooklyn has their biggest lead of tonight's game, up by five.
This game has been played within a six-point margin all night.
That was Dallas' biggest lead in the second quarter of six.
Paint catch and score.
Easy finish with the left hand for A.D.
Yeoman misses on the three.
Now will have another attempt with an offensive rebound and misses that one.
But Danny Wolf hustles after it again and is smothered by A.D. on the block.
Dallas has seven blocks tonight.
Cobing to Paint.
Coote, bird, tough shot off the rim.
Davis right back up, and he scores.
Brandon Williams.
Oh, nice.
Marshall on the up and under.
But there was some sauce on that for B. Will.
Harrison Barnes has been playing well in that cup quarterfinal game especially.
Not young, but still playing well, still part of that group.
Two weeks ago on a Friday night,
Coote playing with the Mavericks at the Lakers,
had his first double-digit assist game of his career.
The most assist in a game ever as Danny Wolf swishes a three.
And that three dances out fortunately for Dallas.
B. Will on the attack, and it rolls home.
Tie game.
Getting a good look at transition.
Mavericks go in front.
I'm sorry, on the basket there by B. Will.
84-83 in defense by Christie.
He's been active defensively tonight.
Coote here is able to go in.
Danny Wolf with a lead for the cutting.
Michael Porter, Jr., tough shot.
He's been doing a lot of assisting here in the third quarter,
but he's got back-to-back trips down the floor with scores.
That's 220 in the third quarter.
Started with Dallas up by four.
So, it's Brooklyn three to the good here in this quarter.
Nembhard, baseline throw in.
Looking, looking.
Fights Powell.
Cutting to the basket.
And cut Powell.
A pass here by Tyrese Martin.
The sharp attack to pass.
And now he's going to try to overpower Christie,
but they forced him into giving the ball up to Danny Wolf into the shot clock.
Yeah, that was tough.
He created space with contact.
Tyrese Martin started out four for four tonight,
but he's missed his last three attempts.
Bad pass.
So, here's Noah Conley leading the pass straight and scoring with two seconds left.
Both of you had tremendous careers with both of the teams on the floor tonight.
The franchise is on the floor in this game.
So, it's Vince Carter, as Clay Thompson told.
And it's a bucket.
Ties again.
An iconic shot.
I feel like Vince had great seasons with every team in the NBA.
Oh, here's Anthony Davis staying after it.
Sticking it for A.D. to score.
That was one of the four after Nolan Traore missed.
P.J. back in the game.
Four to three.
Yes.
At some point.
Shot clock-wise, he's got two in the game as well.
A player who's led the NBA in block shots per game three times in his career.
Step back three.
Danny Wolf.
We've seen his face on the wall where he played high school
in the Mavericks' practice at Santa Monica Catholic High School.
Another drive here by Clown looking for a foul.
Rebound Davis.
Up ahead to Williams.
Another good pass.
Passes in that sequence.
Who's going to be the team that creates some space late in the game?
There's Anthony Davis just creating space for himself.
Not many misses for Porter tonight, but one occurred there.
Nabs in front after A.D.'s three-point play.
Now he screens for Marshall.
Going back.
You finish.
We'll have to wait until the next dead ball.
Drive.
Branded Williams.
Slices through the defense with a fancy finish.
Buche has had a lot of minutes because of fouls tonight.
Here's Bewill again against Danny Wolf.
And couldn't break him down, and Terrence Mann steals it.
Mavericks had a chance for their biggest lead of the game.
Here's Porter.
He scores.
Tough turnaround.
Got an assist pass there from Terrence Mann.
Here's a tip drive.
Davis stays after it.
They hit from deep as they've done 16 times tonight.
They can tie it.
Wolf fakes a pass.
Runner bounces in.
He's going to become a cult favorite, isn't he?
He's got a lot in his bag, dude.
He closed out that Houston game really well.
Here's a deflection right back to P.J.,
who was in the middle of the defense.
Washington on the drive.
Tough shot.
Bounces in.
Able to get a shot to fall to give Dallas 64 paint points,
and more importantly, a three-point advantage on the board.
Here's Claxton.
Want that dribble handoff to Porter.
Look out.
And Porter with another basket, putting him at 34.
A.D.
Tough shot.
Loose rebound.
Coming away with it is Koop.
Outside to Brandon Williams.
Bull's-eye.
B. Will running the offense again.
Got it right back from Koop.
On the drive.
Here's Brandon Williams inside,
and it's pushed up and in for Anthony Davis.
Nice stretch for B. Will.
Davis has ten rebounds now in the second half.
P.J.'s got the ball.
He steps through a double team.
Did they foul him?
They do.
They did.
Really good defense.
Got Christie behind him and A.D. in front of him.
Here's your seven-point lead, the first time.
Another freebie for P.J.
Made them both.
And Dallas is going to hang on and win the game with more good clutch play.
And A.D. gets his second half double-double.
The Mavericks, we talked about them playing the most clutch games in the NBA,
but more importantly here as of late, they've been winning them.
20 points in the second half of your 24, A.D.
How did you find your rhythm?
The first half, you know, they were trying to front, you know,
taking me away, so I just tried to make the right reach to my teammates.
They did a good job of making shots, keeping us in the game.
And I knew they probably had to make an adjustment going into halftime,
and I just came out being more aggressive, just letting the game come to me.
You know, six days off, you got to find your rhythm again,
but trying not to force anything, making the right plays,
and, excuse me, when the opportunity presents itself,
just try to, you know, be effective, be dominant, take over the game.
Balance scoring as a team, though.
You guys looked rested 66 points in the paint.
How can that be a recipe for success this year?
That's attacking. We're a very big team.
We just got to continue to attack the paint, and then if they collapse,
find our shooters.
I'm not sure what we shot from three.
10 for 30. Yeah, 33%.
But like you said, you know, 60-plus points in the paint,
so, you know, we just got to find ways to win,
and we've been doing that lately.
Just got to keep it going.
It looks like you and Coop's chemistry is growing on the court.
What are you learning about each other?
Just figuring it out, you know.
The six days help with practice time,
and we're able to kind of find our rhythm
and communicate through some things that we see on both ends of the floor,
and just constantly talking to him.
He's talking to me, and not just me and Coop, but all of the guys.
You know, JK is a big advocate for us, communicating on the floor,
and, you know, as a leader,
I'm just trying to do that continuously, talking to the guys.
Even when we're tired, you know, that's when we have to talk the most.
It showed tonight, you know, holding the team to 111.
You know, we gave up a lot of points in each quarter,
but, you know, wins are hard to come by these days,
so, you know, we'll take it.
Not as much lately, though.
We appreciate it. Thanks, AD.
Thank you.
