The Quack Frog
In a lovely, sunny marsh, there lived a frog named Froggle.
Now, Froggle was a good frog at heart, but he often felt a little left out.
You see, his leg was a bit sore, and he thought his spotty skin wasn't as handsome as the other frogs.
He spent a lot of time feeling sorry for himself.
Oh, what's the use? My leg is too lame for leaping, and my skin is too spotty for showing off.
No one will ever notice me.
Oh no, feeling insecure can make us unhappy.
But one day, as Froggle was watching the busy world around him, he had an idea.
A truly brilliant, magnificent, and not at all bad idea.
If he couldn't be famous for his looks or his leaping, he would be famous for his brains.
That's it. I won't be Froggle the Frog.
I'll be Dr. Hop, the most learned physician in all the land.
I'll be so important, no one will even notice my leg or my spots.
Sometimes we try to hide our insecurities by pretending to be something we're not.
And so Dr. Hop opened for business.
He promised he was skilled in drugs and could cure any disease.
The animals of the meadow, always hopeful, came to see this new wonder doctor.
Step right up. Step right up.
Are you suffering from the sneezals, the weasels, the acorn-dropping fumbles?
I, Dr. Hop, have a cure for everything.
My special marsh mud mixture will fix you right up.
Can you really cure my sniffles, Dr. Hop?
Of course.
One spoonful of my special sunshine and dandelion syrup and you'll be hopping...
I mean skipping with joy.
Be careful of those who make promises that seem too good to be true.
But watching from the edge of the crowd was a fox named Felix.
Felix was known for being very clever and very kind.
He saw that Dr. Hop was giving out big promises, but he also saw something else.
Excuse me, Dr. Hop, that's a very impressive speech.
Why, thank you. It's all part of the service.
I have just one question.
You say you can heal all diseases, but if your medicine is so powerful,
well, why haven't you cured your own lame leg?
Or your blotched and wrinkled skin?
Before you try to solve other people's problems,
make sure you are taking care of your own.
Dr. Hop was speechless.
The fox's question was like a splash of cold water.
For the first time, Froggle saw that he had been so busy pretending to be a doctor for others.
He had forgotten all of these are not real.
He's... he's right.
I'm not a doctor.
I'm just Froggle.
And I was so worried you wouldn't like me that I...
I made it all up.
I'm sorry.
Honesty is always the best policy.
It's okay to be yourself.
But a wonderful thing happened.
The animals didn't get angry.
They saw that Froggle was just a frog who felt a little different,
just like sometimes they did.
And Felix the Fox offered him not a scolding, but a friendship.
We don't like you because you're a doctor, Froggle.
We like you because you're you.
Your spots are what make you unique.
And as for your leg, we can all help you find the tastiest flies so you don't have to leap so far.
Yeah, and you tell great stories.
We can be your friends, and that's the best medicine of all.
True friends like you for who you are, not for who you pretend to be.
Everyone has their own unique strengths.
And so Froggle learned a very important lesson.
He didn't need to be a doctor to be special.
He just needed to be a good friend.
And in the end, he found the best cure of all.
Happiness shared with others.
You know, my leg does feel a bit better when I'm not pretending it's perfect.
Who wants to play lily pad races?
Yay!
Physician, heal thyself.
Which means you should fix your own faults before you try to correct the faults of others.
But most importantly, always be true to yourself.
The end.
