Three, two, one, action.
Oh my.
We are at Brands Hatch, the kind of infamous F1 circuit,
shooting a scene. We're doubling this corner for Monza, which we'll be shooting in a few weeks.
We just shot a accident scene that we've been rehearsing and testing for months,
and one of the great things about live-action filmmaking is sometimes things don't go exactly
as you planned, but in those moments, sometimes you get more than what you hoped for, and certainly
we had that on Top Gun, and now we've had that here on this movie. The plan was that the car
was supposed to kind of come through the Rolex sign, crash against the fence, land on the tires.
We had done a lot of testing, kind of dialing that in perfectly, but obviously now we're here
in a different place. The car weighs different with real cameras on it, so I asked Keith after
the first take to crank the pressure up on the launch, because I told him it was always better
to overachieve than underachieve, and boy, did we overachieve. Over 100 meters, over the set,
into the trees, as you can see, but in this moment, kind of created something really
great, we think, and obviously we're just going to embrace it and make it part of the film. So,
you know, I think when it first happened, everyone was a little worried that it wasn't what had been
planned, but it's great. It's what I love about filmmaking, and it's going to make the sequence
better than we thought it was going to be, so it's all good. It's a great success,
and I'm just really proud of the team for putting all the work in to make this happen,
and yeah, it's great. What we'll do is we'll take you up six foot, spinning,
and take you up over the dinosaur. It spins five times. One gets you up to speed,
three at speed, and one to ramp you down. Once you feel it's up to speed,
yeah, brace. That's what Craig did. Here we go. Three, two, one, action.
That was fun. Was it? Shall we go again?
Soon as you start feeling any warmth, I want you to say now, and we're going to put you out.
I promise you.
Yeah, exactly. So right now, we're doing a fire test. I put my hand in the gel solution,
got the foil for protection, and next is another glove.
I had an amazing, intimate conversation with Grosjean, who had been through a similar crash,
and he walked me through everything that was going in his mind when he was in the car during
that moment. It's just like I say, everyone in this world has been so supportive to us
every step of the way, and we wouldn't be able to do it without him.
Once you get to that point it's getting warm, it's too late, because then it's going to start
to kick in, and those seconds that are going to pass, they're going to start to burn you. So when
we do it, if we do it with you, just don't be a hero. When it's getting to that warm point,
that's it. It's out. I want out of this.
You'll feel it at a certain temperature. It should stay that temperature. If it starts
to increase, you need to be out. Because this starts to melt your skin, basically.
It's the heat transfer, that's what it's about. That's how we look.
Three, two, one, and lighting. Okay. One thousand, two thousand, three thousand, four thousand,
five thousand, six thousand, seven thousand, eight. It's down to you now. Keep going.
Eleven, twelve, thirteen. Give it a little bit of movement now. Fourteen. You can bend your arms a
little bit. Fifteen. Sixteen. Seventeen. Do me a favor, just see if you can start to pat them out,
like you're panicking and patting them out. That's it. Go on, you pat them out. Go for it.
You can get them out. That's great. We'll just give you a little bit of a burst.
Good. Lovely. Any hot spots? No, that was perfect. That'll be 200 pounds.
We want to get as much range over that direction as possible.
Well, yeah, he can jump out and run into the close-up, and then we can pan and retract, I guess.
We see Danson's passed out again. It's cut to you. He's got to get himself like a halfway out,
and then he gets stuck. Right. And then you'll pull him the rest of the way. We could always put a
cable above him. And just assist him. Yeah, which is probably smart. That sounds like a good idea.
I mean, so he can make sure the hands can come in. Yeah, just give it a little hand.
Like Superman strength. Yeah, that's great. Can we even get this close? You'll probably get into
here, but then it would be... With the fireproof suit, he'll still feel it.
